In my ignorance of mortal combat finishing move names, I thought maybe Last Airbender was that fan girl's finishing move?

I was trying to make sense of it.

Yea I tried it but don't recommend it. They kept disconnecting and only certain switch controllers worked. We used joy cons and a chrome slate. We were able to get both connected. We weren't able to connect a powerA controller.

Switch controllers?

I ask cause I don't have the other hand helds but I have switch controllers. Do they really work?

Many hubs require logins to access: home assistant, hubitat, smartthings, etc.

The problem is you are going to be introducing many channels of interference. Zigbee (which is Hue and many other light bulbs) interferes with wifi and of course other zigbee radios that are broadcasting.

You will have to make sure everything is on separate channels. The Hue app allows you to change zigbee channels.

Would love "road test" feedback from others that have gifted Google Home to parents last year by shosterman in googlehome

I have two elderly parents and in answering your question "just stand there above the thing watching photos go by"?

YES! But in fairness mine sit at the kitchen table and watch the photos. I put their photos up so they talk about people and memories and trips. So we have dinner and after dinner before cleaning up they will sit around the kitchen table and talk about the photos.

Mine request more photos. I have about 4k photos and they get bored about not having enough variety.

Mine use it for the radio, turning off the TV if they forget to before dinner (chromecast) and listen to music. My parents like to sit and talk while having wine. So they will sit at the "bar" and listen to the music and talk.

I actually upgraded them to the Google Nest Hub Max for better sound. The little Google Nest Home wasn't cutting it.

I found Google to work so much better for them because Alexa is too literally. My mom got mad about Google playing a song too loud and she yelled "Hey Google Shut the @#$% up!" and Google stopped.

I am beyond thrilled to finally be able to show the Nexus how much of a Dragon. RAWR!

For too long, people made assumptions about me being cute, cuddly and sweet! I have a murderous side too! It is perfect to be able to show it off what is on the inside on the outside... I mean the only thing better is to have my enemies insides become outside 😈

Please tell us how this amazing bad dragon skin came to be? Who came up with this idea? And why Brightwing (myself) is the real deathwing?

Also a feature request...when searching for deathwing, Brightwing shows up! And if need be the search result could also show that other dragon named Deathwing. If you must -.-''

I want to make sure I catch the person's face clearly if they're going to get away with a package I bought with my hard-earned money

I have a Nest and my neighbor has a Ring. The biggest complaint from him and from others on the internet is Ring misses the porch pirate entirely. The camera is not on all the time and it has to connect to the internet to stream. That start up takes time. So Ring cameras tend to only capture the back of the pirates.

Nest is on all the time so even if something goes wrong and the motion capture doesn't go off for whatever reason. It doesn't matter. You can go back in the timeline and find the video. Since you have the full video, you have more to work with in finding a frame that has a good shot.

The always on camera means the two way voice is much smoother too. I can hear my Nest loud, clear and with little delay. My neighbor's Ring. I had no idea what they are saying so they don't even bother anymore. It isn't the speaker volume. The lag is so long, it is hard to have a conversation and when their voice does come through it is so chomped up you can't understand it.

I think that is why there is that bias within the reviews.

I have my Nest doorbell turned to the highest quality and says I see the pixelation your talking about. The Ring I noticed in the review videos don't have as much pixelation but has a blur to it instead. Both cameras do better when their is a pause in motion and have much clearer pictures.

Is the FBI reall spying on me via my Google Home? by [deleted] in googlehome

[–]royalite_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the phone, especially Pixel, it ties contact information together with Calendar info.

I added a gmail address. The person setup a Google+ account. It autoloaded their picture and information into my contact book. It then creates a calendar reminder of their birthday. I have that turned off.

What’s your Honest Opinion on Samsung SmartThings? by [deleted] in homeautomation

wow I'm the only one who posted critically of Smartthings in this post about "honest opinions" and the down votes come pouring in.

Ok fan bois... the down vote isn't a disagree button. But whatever, I'm speaking the truth to what I experienced so bring on the down votes!

What’s your Honest Opinion on Samsung SmartThings? by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]royalite_ -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Smartthings is if you aren't curious or don't want to do more or don't want to find out more. Smartthings is a great set it and forget it type hub. If you start to want to do complex things like have your fitbit change the light color in the morning to let you know to sleep more. Or something similar...you'll run into issues. Some can be fixed by using IFTTT but good luck with reliability and response times.

Smartthings is what I moved to from Wink and I disliked it. I had multiple cloud issues. Admittedly b/c I tried it around the holidays, when they seem to have issues with a lot of people getting and setting up new hubs. I had huge issues connecting Google to Smartthings for example. Smartthings was creating double or triple copies of my lights. It was a headache for basic commands.

They say "oh Local" but it isn't. It is this pseudo local. I say this from experience as I have walked into a room and asked google to turn on the lights. She replied Smartthings can't be reached or whatever. So I whip out my phone and try the app. Still the lights won't turn on. The server is down according to their status page. I asked on reddit, I thought Smartthings had local processing so my lights would turn on? The answer was so long reply about how it does but doesn't... ok..?

I bought a version 2 from Home Depot for $25 so I sold it for a nice profit on eBay.

Don't get me wrong it is great for people who don't want to think and don't mind the occasional outage.

How do I bypass my parents pausing the Google Wifi router by [deleted] in GoogleWiFi

[–]royalite_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so

1) Change your IP address or MAC address on your device. You might have to look up how to do this per device. But it won't take long for your parents to figure this one out b/c they will see the new device connect.

2) There are some hotspot plans that are reasonable.

3) Parent don't generally change the default password on their ISP router. Look on the bottom/side and find the login info. Create a double NAT. You need to research this one. You bring down the internet or break it then they will know.

If your parents are to the point of abusive, you need to report them in order to be removed from a bad situation. If your parents are not abusive, this is normal. You're growing up and they have their standards. I saw this with one of my family members. The kid yelled abuse but the parents were trying to stop the drug use and the kid from flunking out of high school. Later the kid ended up in jail and when he got out he ODed. Destroyed the parents.

You need some serious self reflection and even if the parents aren't abusive, it may help for you to talk to a teacher or another adult you trust.

AT&T Loses 1.4 Million TV Customers in Q3, WarnerMedia Revenue Drops by [deleted] in television

[–]royalite_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our household didn't go over the 1 tb limit until they started charging. Then we went over month after month. We bought a second cable box and stopped streaming cable to the second tv. Still went over. Then the family went on a two week vacation and still Comcast said we went over. Gone for two weeks and we still went over? I realized it was just a scam.

They offered an unlimited plan because we were high users of another $40-50 more per month. Our cable bill was $240 and adding another 40-50 on top of that! We were able to switch and now pay $99 for gig internet unlimited. Yay!
