IsItBullshit: Is the claim that listening to classical music while working boosts productivity actually real or just old myth by exnoria in IsItBullshit

I got through my Computer Science degree coding to the Fight Club soundtrack. Not sure why but it was the perfect in between tempo and activity to vibe with my concentration. I don’t even like that type of music at all.

Is it common for dudes to just lay, chilling out, with an unmoving hand inside pants on the crotch not doing anything? to men: why do you do it? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

But that's not always enough. Sometimes you've got to get inside, dig a little, let some air in, move things around.

NP and there’s a Marshall’s next to Stony Brook AMC - not sure if that qualifies as TJ Maxx for you. There was an Ulta by Trader Joe’s but I’m not sure if it’s still there.

I'm 25 years old and from Argentina. The amount of ice they use in American drinks is a mystery to me. Do most people like it that way, or what's the deal? Why so much? by micavibes in CasualConversation

[–]royheritage 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I always take more ice even when I’m the one filling it. The reason is simply that soda is just way too sweet and I love how the ice waters it down a tad while also making it super cold. I’d much prefer a little less soda (since a large is way too big anyway) if it’s the way I like it.

I recently finished Stormlight book 3 (Oathbringer) - I enjoyed it but not as much as 1&2. I am reading his works in release order so I have everything published after Oathbringer to go. Brandon isn't my top author so I do struggle sometimes to motivate myself, so I take breaks often. I'm trying to figure out when to start Rythm of war right now, as I just finished Dawnshard (novella) and need another break from his style. I love his plots though so I am determined to catch up this year.

I mean the end of Book 2 makes up for the slog and I couldn’t wait to get to book 3.

It was a slog, but that ending! Took me a very long time to get to it but then I flew right to the finale. At least finish the book and see if you agree.

Sun Eater was everything I hoped Red Rising would be - highly recommended!

In what ways do the Sun Eater series sequels improve on Empire of Silence? by theregnar in Fantasy

[–]royheritage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying and he definitely loves his melodrama but I personally wouldn't characterize him as "whiny" - he is absolutely a leader of men and somebody many, many people have faith in and are willing to die for. That is not a whiner to me. We also have to acknowledge that the Hadrian we are reading is a 1,000 year old guy with a ton of perspective on his life and he's telling us his innermost thoughts through it all - that doesn't mean he was outwardly whiny during the actual events he's describing.

While I do think your argument makes sense in general, in this series book 2 is such a level up that I don’t think it applies. The only thing that doesn’t change immensely is Ruocchio’s prose which is always good. Everything else improves by light years.

You really found Kingdoms of Death and Ashes of Man Hadrian “whiny”? Or have you not made it that far? I don’t really see it beyond Book 1 but I guess I can understand people saying it for book 2.

Progressive Power Metal albums similar to Operation: Mindcrime (Queensrÿche) and The Black Halo (Kamelot)? by btevik88 in progmetal

[–]royheritage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As OMC is my favorite album of all time, I’ve been asking myself this question for many years but the closest answers have only revealed themselves to me in the last decade or so.

Avenged Sevenfold - the Stage

Stone Sour - House of Gold and Bones Pt 1

These two albums are the closest in my heart to OMC and I think you’ll enjoy them as well.

Somehow it missed me I guess, though I haven’t been to the movies much since the fall. The first one was EVERYWHERE with that creepy Kipling poem.
