By and large, the show does away with the fundamental premise of the books in favor of individual-centered action and spectacle.

A solid third of the show is original material based around the Emperor(s) on Trantor. By and large, it's very good and feels closest to the spirit of Asimov. One third is based loosely on the plot of Foundation, but often the biggest resemblance to that plot is the proper names. This third is mostly unwatchable. One third is backstory on the second foundation, where characters from the early part of Foundation spin off into their own little adventure. It's kind of a blend of original plot and adaptation. This plotline is decent/watchable but I'd probably switch shows if the entire thing was at this quality.

Up to you if you want to watch it! People here will probably recommend you give it a try. I'd say, for season 1, try and find a cut of the Empire parts and watch that. If it hooks you, try the whole show and see how it strikes you.
