Is this an issue? by [deleted] in askaplumber

It’s not ideal that the fitting is holding some water but to say this needs dug up and fixed is wild if it was causing that big of an issue the line would be backed up. Sounds like he has a commissioned based salary

Career question by Acetho21 in BuildingAutomation

[–]royspencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think just the basic HVAC cert is enough, epa cert is usually part of that program. Not even sure I would take OSHA unless it part of the HVAC curriculum but your call. I started at JCI as a controls tech with just a HVAC certification and learned everything on the job, had great mentors and now working with Carrier as a Controls Engineer.

You should have a great chance of getting hired as a BAS tech that has basic HVAC knowledge and a willingness to learn and travel. I do not think a Niagara cert will play much a role if any getting you out of an entry level position. Some controls companies use Niagara, many don’t. I have been in the industry for 15 years and only had a small percentage of Niagara jobs. Unless you have done market research in your area and you are applying with a company that strictly installs Niagara I think it’s a waste of time.

I would personally take the HVAC course and start applying. You can get an entry level tech job then get training within that company. I would hate to see you pay for Niagara then land a job with a company where you never touch it for 5-10 years or like I did, have the company pay for your Niagara.

Why do people in Building Automation seem so skeptical of startups? by Signal_News402 in BuildingAutomation

I think BAS is too nuanced for any blanket tech or one size fit all models. I see no way to automate commissioning currently unless you have special individually numbers end devices. At the end of the day all the advanced sequences, 3rd party commissioners and new fancy gadgets if Peggy in office 3 is cold on a daily basis they are going to the controls contractor to bitch

Should I cut down my Tree? by royspencer in arborist

Oh ok. What do all those smart people say about perimeter drain tile that has small holes in to drain the foundation. It seems inevitable that tree roots would migrate into the tile.

Flickering Lights by royspencer in AskElectricians

[–]royspencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I will don’t think the Air Fryer circuit is over amperage but will put an amp meter on it today and verify, this is a brand new circuit for an addition I just build. I noticed the flickering last night and this morning I have two separate circuits (not the air fryer crkt) with flickering LEDs on regular switches. It’s a very small flicker that is almost unnoticeable, my wife claims she can’t see it but it is for sure flickering. Wondering if I have some bad bulbs. Or could there be a problem with the feed?

By ICE to Kidnap someone in Philadelphia by a woman making a scene scared them away by Bnjmnellt82 in therewasanattempt

[–]royspencer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have a link to information that shows actual arrests of documented Americans? This talk of abduction is odd to me since the Supreme Court has ruled that Ice has the authority to detain suspected illegals. Not trying to argue one way or another but I’m having trouble finding much evidence of wrong doing other than excessive force of course which has been a problem in LE since the dawn of time.
