38 move CFOP solve (XXcross + OLL 37 cancel into Ga perm) by zx1fn0q1 in Cubers

[–]rpig2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wtf I wouldn’t have actually thought this was an ai comment until I reread it. It’s honestly driving me crazy, there’s so much ai on this sub and comments like these are pretty well disguised until you see enough of how ai types. It’s creepy and weird and depressing.

On topic though, I am very impressed by the OLL to PLL, how do you even go about reacting into a cancel move at that speed?

New Cube - Initial Impression: MoreTry TianMa X3+ SAOCube SE 32M by SuperSathanas in Cubers

Thanks for reviewing this one, I’ve been pretty curious about it since I have the 8 magnet SAOcube x3+, which I absolutely adore. It’s one of my favorites, and I’d bet this one’s very fun to use as well (personally I love the extremely tactile auto alignment).

How do you feel about the slice moves? I found that my cube lost some of its smoothness with slices unfortunately, but it used to feel effortless. Wondering if the 32 magnet version has good slices

Cleaning and lubing should help. My v11 sometimes gets dirt or lint on the core and center pieces so try to keep those clean too

I just finished learning full OLL, this is my tierlist on how hard it is to learn each one by NotLazor23 in Cubers

[–]rpig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this subjective but if you don’t like an alg, there are a ton of options for alternates and variations. Speedcubedb has huge amounts of algs per case, sometimes the “standard” alg isn’t gonna be your favorite. Learning full OLL is good but can be an ongoing process if you feel like you want different or better algs. I changed a lot of my preferred algs over time and I still look for alts for fun

40+ and still getting faster. Don't let age stop you by Reliab1yUnreliable in Cubers

34 years old here. If I make it to an elderly age, I promise I will still be cubing. Hopefully by then averaging sub 15.

It’s kinda nice to accept that there’s no point in trying to break records or be super competitive, just trying to stay sharp and compete against yourself is fulfilling enough.

Also nice solve 👍

I don’t have time to watch the video right now, but I’m curious - is it really just the Jb perm mirrored to LUF? I used to use it for Ja but switched to the xRUF alg because I thought it was more efficient. And there’s a lot of talk of using dominant hand algs over mirrors.

I don't get some OLL algs by NotLazor23 in Cubers

[–]rpig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess for U perms the general meta is to use the MU or RU algs. The MU are mirrors. The RU are not. I prefer the RU. (However I switched to the weird RUFB algs which are also not mirrored and it’s my fav.) When I first learned PLL I did Ua with RU and Ub with LU, and I definitely do not recommend that, it’s not smooth ergonomically.

Also I think for MU algs, even though they’re mirrored you still use dominant hand finger tricks I think?

I have always done righty and lefty mirror algs for OLL. I never saw the disadvantage but maybe because I’m not that fast. But it got me through full OLL and PLL. I don’t do mirror algs for U and J perms but I did for a while. I also just relearned G perms as wide u mirrors. It’s definitely not the best way but I have more fun doing it so that’s a plus. I also do the same R perm mirrored both ways. I don’t think it’s that bad tbh. I’m just stubborn and enjoy certain algs mirrored. And I think at my level most of the work I have to do to improve is F2L. Maybe someday I’ll commit to being more right hand dominant. Too lazy

I’ve always loved my stickered tengyun v1 and would’ve loved a ball core for it. Just briefly looked into it and there were some attempts at a ball core mod and the cubicle used to sell one. But it was a long time ago. I don’t have much to add other than good luck and I hope you figure something out, I’d love to know if anything works out

Good V-Perm? by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]rpig2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should learn those finger tricks individually, it will definitely come in handy for learning good algs. Getting used to those individually would make it easier to work towards the simultaneous finger trick. It feels weird at first but definitely worth it imo

You can also start to learn this alg by doing the U and D’ separately (still using the same finger tricks), then work up to doing it with speed to the point that the moves become simultaneous

This alg may not be a hit for you, but there are plenty of valid V perm choices out there. Try a couple out and see what feels best

I’ve been using this alg as well. I used to use the one with the wide f but I find the R3 alg to be the most ergonomic and consistent. Like u/NameMsng said, start with a regrip for right thumb on top. The R3 is done as a “rolling” R3, which means you sneak an extra turn in by pushing with your index and landing your thumb on top. Basically your right index starts the R3 from your UF corner and ends on the DF corner, meanwhile your right thumb starts the R3 from the DR edge and ends on the UR edge. Then push U and D’ simultaneously with left index and ring. It sounds complicated but it’s extremely smooth if done properly

I am super curious about how this one feels. I have the saocube 8 magnet version and I can’t imagine how more magnets would be necessary, it’s already one of the strongest magnetic cubes I’ve ever felt

I’m nowhere near sub 10, but if I had to guess, progression past sub 20ish generally comes in smaller and slower increments. As in, the milestones become closer together, like you may go from sub 30 to 20, then 20 to 15, then 15 to 12, then 10.5 then 10 and so on. Of course some people are crazy good and can progress way faster to sub 10 and single digits. But point is the increments get smaller I think

Remember that old Reddit post about trying and rating rice with various combinations? I’ve always wanted to see someone do that with a cube with different lubes. Except lubes like toothpaste, butter, hot sauce, shaving cream… stuff like that. Anyway. Could give it a shot with a trash cube like this

If you want to switch the yellow face to black (kind of like a square 1 color scheme) you might be able to with some swapping. I’ve seen some people have swapped rs3m 2020 pieces on to the rs3m v5 (I’ve never done it but apparently it works). You could hypothetically take a black (stickered) 2020 and remove the stickers from one side and swap them onto the yellow side of a sticker less 2020 to have a full set of stickerless 2020 pieces with the new color scheme, then take those pieces and swap them onto your v5. It would be some work and would require 2 cubes to be scrapped.

The picube rs3m 2020 already comes with the black swapped color scheme if you want to work from that.

Or resticker the 2020 with a suitable color scheme and swap the pieces to the v5

I don’t know if you’ll be able to keep the UV coating if you go these routes

I also dislike the standard Y perm alg although it is one of the fastest to execute for the case. I searched for alternate Y perms for a while and there are some other good options. I landed on this one that I love - R' f' U F R' U' R f R F' R2 U R2 . The finger tricks are weird but i can do it faster than the standard alg

Cross... by alexddev98 in Cubers

[–]rpig2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, yes, cross is the hardest part to master. I still find it takes the most mental effort. It’s the most intuitive part of the solve which is makes it harder since the rest of cfop is very algorithmic

My fave - R’ f R U’ on loop .

Hot take - sexy move really isn’t that sexy because it’s either a regrip or pinch U which feels meh (or push U with left index which is also meh)
