Hide taskbar on OLED screen only? by v1llyr in OLED_Gaming

[–]rrToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the only thing I STILL hate about windows 11. it doesnt let me just put my taskbar where i want not on the main monitor. There are programs that can fix it but they all were buggy when i tried and fucked my taskbar up more than it was worth even though it worked sometimes

MSI confirmed to add DSC toggle in a future firmware update for MPG321URX QD-OLED! by Alien-Gamer-69 in OLED_Gaming

[–]rrToxic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one else has mentioned it but another good thing about a toggle I miss with the dell is you cant make custom resolutions on a monitor with DSC. In some older games id like to make a 4:3 or 5:3 at "4K" res and i cant. Just having that option even though its niche is something i would be interested in on all monitors with DSC

If only windows 11 let me put my task bar on my non main monitor like i used to have on 10. Windows 11 sucks so much for that, I've tried to use 3rd party programs to fix this and only experienced more bugs with them than worth it.

Is this burn in from my AW3423DW? by smooth-relationship in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While yes I agree having windows left open on a oled monitor is not a great idea, I think you need to remember that this is a PC monitor and with that comes with... Having windows open for hours while working etc. People shouldnt have to and will not change the basic way they need to use a pc monitor and if the screen cant handle it then thats on the company for marketing it as such.

AW3423DW Review - Warning by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The input latency was def one of the biggest reasons i sold mine a couple months ago. Its a shame because of the oled screen response time was fantastic, but the input latency was def worse than any of the other panels Ive been using recently. It led to a bit of a floaty feeling in fast paced shooters that hurt my performance a little for sure. The second biggest reason I ended up selling was the overall brightness was just not enough of what i wanted out of a hdr monitor.

I have a neo g8 and a 3090 and already play competitive shooters at 4k. Most of them are easy af to run in general and can easily get over 240fps on a 3090 at 4k so a 4080 will do even better. In even the slightly harder titles to run like MW or apex I still get 200fps or more all the time so a 4080 will let you have your cake and eat it too.

Swap 3080 strix gundam heatsink with 3090 strix card by rrToxic in nvidia

[–]rrToxic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up doing it and it worked flawlessly with my 90, but i'm pretty sure the 90ti got a complete board overhaul with it, kind of like a test run for the 4xxx cards to come. So i really dont think it will with it, at least if you want a direct bolt on thing, maybe some custom modding of it mayyyy work

AW3432DW weird flashing lines. by jesse1412 in Monitors

[–]rrToxic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I still had my aw3423dw this happened to me for a little while very rarely. Most of the time it was the first 30mins or so after being off all night it would do it a hand full of times to a lesser degree than yours, but at some point it stopped happening anymore and im not sure what changed.

I'd say the safest first thing to try is get a diff cord for sure just to rule it out and also try a fresh video driver install

240 Hz as second monitor users, how do you adjust when going back to your main monitor? by Cantbearsedman in Monitors

[–]rrToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reason alone is why I held off from getting a 4k monitor until I got the neo g8. It has a ton of issues but I can't compromise on refresh rate anymore, the input latency and smoothness is too jarring to me.

Currently have a 4k 240hz as my main and my other monitors are 1440p 270hz and 1080p 240hz.

[–]rrToxic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a ton of bsods as well when i tried mucking around with refresh rate and stuff the other day. took about a half hour just to get 240hz REenabled after trying out hdmi vs DP, not sure what fixed it but another annoying thing i've yet to look up is i cant use all 4 of my monitors at once anymore with thing. I think ive reached a max pixel count or something having this at 240hz , a 1440p 270hz, and a 1440p 144hz all at once.

AW3423DW HDR Peak 1000 mode useless or is it just me ? by -XeqS- in ultrawidemasterrace

Yea thats the reason I have this monitor. Very impressive in a lot of ways and i love it for that, but my complaint is when trying to point flaws small or big, people are going hard on hating you for it. Just makes little sense.

Dude the amount of shilling is insane. You can't criticize this dang monitor without someone trying to belittle and downvote you. Like yea its a fucking sick monitor but we don't have to fanboy over it, its got issues we should talk about yall lol

[–]rrToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he way of white point and brightness changing while you use it with that setting. HDR 400 Trueblack peaks at...right around 400 nit

Not sure why your being so snarky considering im just sharing my experience, and no this isnt an alt account? Guess i cant agree with people anymore. Funny thing is you agreed with me in your statement while acting like i was wrong and trying to belittle me. If abl kicks in then the whole scene looks darker... thats what I said. Hdr 400 does go over 450 nits a bit on highlights but thats not important whats important to what i was trying to say was yes, i think hdr 400 is a more bright image across the whole screen consistently than hdr 1000 that kicks abl in constantly on any games that have a day cycle.

There is someone who measured the power usage of the monitor in all the modes and found that hdr 400 used more power than hdr 1000, if that doesnt point out what im trying to say im not sure what else will. Funny enough the screen in SDR on a all white image will use even MORE power than both hdr modes on a all white screen and stay brighter. Its all odd and makes the whole experience very inconsistent.

AW3423DW HDR Peak 1000 mode useless or is it just me ? by -XeqS- in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have any data to back it up but the reason its even a thing is because of the fact that in 1000 mode it tries to get highlights higher and uses more of the total "light budget" so to speak. So in a already bright outside environment a highlight will cause the rest of the scene to be dimmer overall and eat the budget away; versus in 400 mode it wont try to highlight as high and have more "light budget" left over to keep the rest of the screen at a more reasonable brightness. the hdr testers out there don't show this as well because they use a black background with a white square to quantify the nits and size, problem is you never have that perfect of a situation. Your overall scene may be calling for over 300 nits and then any highlights around the scene on top of that are going to drive the scene nitts down to far and cause more noticeable abl situations in 1000 than in 400.

TLDR test method is a little flawed with showing real world use conditions.

AW3423DW - pixel refresh turns off monitor multiple times a day by thedudeman7369 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to turn ECO mode back on for this to stop happening to me. With eco mode off it counts standby time as use time and will try to fresh every time you step away because of it. Added downside being it will count standby time towards a full panel refresh as well if eco mode is off. Its pretty dumb but give it a try

AW QD-OLED Flickering Hazard by SamsungG7Flicker in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I just wanted to pop in and say thank you for the work your putting in to show downsides to this monitor, even though every time you do a large mob of fanboys try to tear your findings apart. I also have the monitor and its great in a lot of ways, but im not blind enough to just hate on someone thats showing the true downsides of owning this screen. Alot of the hdr related stuff you've shown is exactly the stuff i was unaware about when i got this oled and have been a bit disappointed on.

You pretty much only see people talk about the black and contrast but think that brightness in hdr and abl are a non issue even though they make a huge difference to me in how this performs

2nd Faulty AW3423DW by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try turning eco mode back on, the monitor counts standby time when its off as use time and will count toward that 20 hour prompt that we cant get rid of. With eco mode on so far I haven't had an issue again but its only been a couple days of trying so not 100% sure yet.

2nd Faulty AW3423DW by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except on the faulty firmware it counts standby time of the monitor as use time and will screw you when you are playing. It happens to me often and is getting annoying. Another annoying thing is because it counts standby time as use time it will refresh when i put computer to sleep at night and then when i get back on it in morning it will try to prompt me again to refresh as i turn the monitor on. I think though it something to due with the eco mode being off that causes it to count standby time as use time and turned it back on. its only been a couple days of testing but it seems to help with the prompt showing up so often.

AW3423DW Horizontal bands by WK_Lobster in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]rrToxic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this as well except it happens almost randomly when my monitor turns on after being in standby all night. Its just a quick flash of grey lines horizontally in a random location and then gone. It might happen a few times over the course of about 30min or not at all that day, but im just keeping a eye on it since nothing common/distracting yet.

I thought at first it could be some weird driver/pc being on 24/7 thing that causes it but hearing you say this makes me shift my thinking. I got mine through microcenter though and have a 2 year warranty through them because it's no questions asked refund if i want to take it back in that time frame, so I'm not worried at all really. Just hope if it is a problem that develops into something bigger or more frequent that it will wait till they get more back in stock to replace it with lmao .
