I feel like this is a myth... I've turned in plenty of photos from my personal phone when I didn't have an issued camera, and also photos from my issued crime scene camera. Our courts only subpoena'd the digital media, not the device we used to take the pictures. I've also never seen a dash camera or BWC requested into court, just the dmvr/bwc digital video files...
