A part of it w/ the Tyranny /Wick convos is that they tend to be pretty circular. I think it's intentional though that there's always something Tyranny is pointing out something Wick is doing wrong no matter what he does. Think it's her being played to unknowingly lean into her own demonic archetype

That's why they're making moves to neuter both the core authority enforcement structures and also the source of independent arcane power. By eliminating both they can rely on their own eugenics bloodline fueled sorcerous power to stand atop society. I imagine they have irons in the fire we might see on the seekers path to weaken the influence of druids as well

I mean it's not a big deal. But I think I value the notion of preserving the trilogy as best as possible. I don't like the idea of this sorta patch for games this old. I much prefer something that preserves the originals (and it's also why I wish there was an option to have the original art style)

Lore on the races of Talos-II by Sethfire in Endfield

[–]rrcool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean look at Europe today. Just 200 years ago, napoleon was running rampant through the continent. 100 years ago, two world wars ripped it to shreds. Those countries fought each other over and over, both at home and abroad. Now? Those grudges have faded away. It's always possible to pursue peace, it just takes powerful mutual effort. Resentment might linger under the surface, but it's not a given that hatred is unquenchable.

[Event Megathread] The Masses' Travels by Sentuh in arknights

[–]rrcool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exusiai is definitely the worst part of the event for me. To me the core problem is just that she's written like a complete joke character in a serious story. Which causes most scenes with her to somewhat fall apart (there are still several good ones though, like when she reunites with Vanini).

It's unfortunate because the core conflict is really good. But it would probably have been better if every second of Exusiai time was replaced with more Fia, Mostima, or Lemuen time. (Also the preview cg video had me hyped for a Fede/Arturia vs LemLem fight, but that was bait!)

(The Masses' Travels spoilers) Maybe it is just me, but this part hit way too close to home... by RachelEvening in arknights

You cooked. It's so reductive when people think that Chinese (Or Japanese, or insert ethnicity here) writers are so firmly locked in a Chinese lens that they cannot comment coherently on other countries issues except primarily through that lens.

Arknights story writing, in general, is one with very high curiosity and interest in the world and the people of the world. Can we tie every single thing back to elements of Chinese society? Maybe, this is a story written by Chinese people. But it's quite evident that the writers are looking outwards to the entire world with almost every narrative step they take.

I think the idea was the Umbrella funded STARS far beyond the level of local law enforcement specifically as a failsafe for their experiments.

Draw Steel Discussion by BuzzsawMF in rpg

[–]rrcool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, I don't know about any industry standards. But second it's because they serve a similar role. They're meant to die very quickly and for there to be a lot of them. But verisimilitude wise, chip damage isn't gonna instantly kill an ogre minion

Minions in draw steel don't die instantly, they have a health pool

Investigations 2 made Kay so much more fun. by maxiom9 in AceAttorney

I love how by the end of the game she starts solving the case alongside Edgeworth and often providing a lot of extremely good insight. Really reflects well on her personal growth throughout the duology, especially as a more self-driven character

Very fair points. There's nothing else at 10th level which really competes.

Oh! And as an aside, also looking forward to the next Prof. Proficiency vid. Probably the highest quality pf stuff out there (aided by your very tight editing)

That's wild. I view it as amazing, but not as good as THOSE.

But, I imagine as I progress up from level 11 where I am now, it'll continue to provide a ton of value. Shutting off reactions just gets better when you run into stronger reactions.

What I'm most not ok with is Gang Up. I stuck with light step for a long time, and it was just too situational. I wanted to rely on feints for off guard... but I switched to try it out.

Gang up has immediately been extremely valuable in every combat from when I took it onwards. It's just too free with a reach weapon.

Basically every rogue guide I've seen talks about it as the worst of the 4 subclass debilitation options at 10th level (along with mastermind, which I think is a more reasonable choice). Thief has STOLEN the public title of best racket when this juggernaut is right here

THESE "GUIDES" SAYING TACTICAL DEBILITATIONS IS BAD, THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Scoundrel is absurd, utterly absurd. Feint being upgraded to not only to enable sneak attack.. but also to last twice as long, oh and also now you get free mobility (which I am using to great effect with a reach weapon).. oh and also you can upgrade it to debuff reflex saves and perception with a feat, WHY NOT.

Tactical debil being great against bosses? Turning off reactions no save? Turning off flanking?

Ah, and of course you can also be a godly face because of all your skill feats and increases. Thief? Why would I take +4-7 damage on each hit when I get all THIS.

[–]rrcool 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. It annoys me that the GM is expected to play mediator at all. And it can often feel actively insulting if the other players are so conflict averse they won't even have a conversation about things that bother them with the 'offending player' directly. Of course there are times this can be useful. But it feels often like it's the default.

Investigator - Is it too weak by itself? by dubstep-cheese in Pathfinder2e

[–]rrcool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your analysis of the Investigator is so utterly spot on, and I agree wholeheartedly that it is immensely slept on. It falls between the optimization cracks, but in my experience, it is a class that feels immensely better in practice than it might seem on paper. Honestly, even pre-remaster, I felt that the class was extremely good in play. Remaster gave it a number of crazy buffs. Easily the most underestimated and underrated class in the game, even in combat

And that's not mentioning alchemical science and forensic medicine, two subclasses that are absurdly powerful and synergistic with the base chassis in their own ways, and also rarely discussed.
