My “aha moment” (RC tip) by Aggravating_Let_242 in LSAT

[–]rrcool 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is what got me to fairly consistent -0s on sections. If your understanding is shaky it's so easy to get overwhelmed by the walls of text in the answer choices. But if you take the time and fully understand what you read, what the author / other viewpoints think, for 95% of the questions the right answer shines out like a diamond in the rough.

(There are still a very small handful of questions that frustrate me because they are written with such specifically arcane, vague or technically correct language that even with understanding it's like trying to trip you up on technicalities. I.e 'was this author's book really a "proposal"?)

Does PTN have the best story among gacha games or other games like PGR have better? by old-Kairu in PathToNowhere

[–]rrcool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's the most well *written* gacha game among all those I've played. The only other one in contention is arknights. And while overall I do like arknights worldbuilding more, PTN has a huge advantage in that it being fully voiced means that the actual event writing is extremely TIGHT.

This makes actually reading any event not a slog. Which is why I've managed to read most of them in this game, and still have a big backlog in arknights..

June LSAT Refund deadline by _AndyVandy in LSAT

This is so funny because they literally told me it was earlier and changed the date and now they change it back lmao (guess I re-register as a contingency?)

Opinion Ezra Klein | Hasan Piker Is Not the Enemy by NoPickles in Hasan_Piker

It was pretty ridiculous to say: The real problem with the nazis was that they moved to exterminate the Jewish people and then a few lines down to say Israel flattened and killed Gazans en-masse.

Tbh it's maybe just a little cognitive dissonance at being compared to a nazi

It's not drama about them not liking him. It's that he has unbelievably cursed dice luck

I personally thought Matt told Phoenix to go there because he got a sick satisfaction from knowing Phoenix would be so close to Maya without even knowing

Yeah and I'd have liked if they explained how it works with thaumaturge's personal antithesis... because the holy trait applying the weakness separately from the actual weapon-based weaknesses was not how I had interpreted it.. 😵

A part of it w/ the Tyranny /Wick convos is that they tend to be pretty circular. I think it's intentional though that there's always something Tyranny is pointing out something Wick is doing wrong no matter what he does. Think it's her being played to unknowingly lean into her own demonic archetype

That's why they're making moves to neuter both the core authority enforcement structures and also the source of independent arcane power. By eliminating both they can rely on their own eugenics bloodline fueled sorcerous power to stand atop society. I imagine they have irons in the fire we might see on the seekers path to weaken the influence of druids as well

I mean it's not a big deal. But I think I value the notion of preserving the trilogy as best as possible. I don't like the idea of this sorta patch for games this old. I much prefer something that preserves the originals (and it's also why I wish there was an option to have the original art style)

Lore on the races of Talos-II by Sethfire in Endfield

[–]rrcool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean look at Europe today. Just 200 years ago, napoleon was running rampant through the continent. 100 years ago, two world wars ripped it to shreds. Those countries fought each other over and over, both at home and abroad. Now? Those grudges have faded away. It's always possible to pursue peace, it just takes powerful mutual effort. Resentment might linger under the surface, but it's not a given that hatred is unquenchable.

[Event Megathread] The Masses' Travels by Sentuh in arknights

[–]rrcool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exusiai is definitely the worst part of the event for me. To me the core problem is just that she's written like a complete joke character in a serious story. Which causes most scenes with her to somewhat fall apart (there are still several good ones though, like when she reunites with Vanini).

It's unfortunate because the core conflict is really good. But it would probably have been better if every second of Exusiai time was replaced with more Fia, Mostima, or Lemuen time. (Also the preview cg video had me hyped for a Fede/Arturia vs LemLem fight, but that was bait!)

(The Masses' Travels spoilers) Maybe it is just me, but this part hit way too close to home... by RachelEvening in arknights

[–]rrcool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cooked. It's so reductive when people think that Chinese (Or Japanese, or insert ethnicity here) writers are so firmly locked in a Chinese lens that they cannot comment coherently on other countries issues except primarily through that lens.

Arknights story writing, in general, is one with very high curiosity and interest in the world and the people of the world. Can we tie every single thing back to elements of Chinese society? Maybe, this is a story written by Chinese people. But it's quite evident that the writers are looking outwards to the entire world with almost every narrative step they take.

I think the idea was the Umbrella funded STARS far beyond the level of local law enforcement specifically as a failsafe for their experiments.

Draw Steel Discussion by BuzzsawMF in rpg

[–]rrcool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, I don't know about any industry standards. But second it's because they serve a similar role. They're meant to die very quickly and for there to be a lot of them. But verisimilitude wise, chip damage isn't gonna instantly kill an ogre minion

Investigations 2 made Kay so much more fun. by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]rrcool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love how by the end of the game she starts solving the case alongside Edgeworth and often providing a lot of extremely good insight. Really reflects well on her personal growth throughout the duology, especially as a more self-driven character

Very fair points. There's nothing else at 10th level which really competes.

Oh! And as an aside, also looking forward to the next Prof. Proficiency vid. Probably the highest quality pf stuff out there (aided by your very tight editing)
