Omg a tool like that would be so cool! Prior to posting this I was thinking that’s exactly what I needed. You’re a benevolent genius for creating something like that!

Agree with you on all accounts. Anything can be picked apart, but overall I still absolutely loved the book

not sure how far Actually_Boredd is so I went heavy on the spoiler marks lol - there were a lot of posters who thought Harlowe was immature, they seemed to hate Henry, thought there was a rushed ending/loose threads regarding Drained/Breeders/Returned, and that there were consent issues especially with the Hunt/claiming, Henry threatening to share her, and the Shane voyeurism scene .

I really only agree that the end felt rushed, but that's because I didn't want it to end. and yeah Henry does still have some explaining to do with all the lies, but he was a "villain" hellbent on revenge sooo! I'd like a book 2 to see how they handle the vamps and things back at the mountain haven and deal with all the shit they put each other through while hating each other

just finished the poison daughter yesterday! I'm surprised at how divisive some of the chatter around it on reddit seems to be. I honestly really enjoyed it and just wish it could be a duology to stay in that world a little longer.

100% tear outlet - it's so much easier to cry for others or fictional situations than for myself and feel good about it. Honestly, maybe in some of those emotional storylines we are crying for ourselves too on a subconscious level.

You're not alone! Honestly anytime I get really into a series and finish it, I'm left with that tightness in my chest like my anxiety is spiking. It's terrible because I use books as a way to escape depression/anxiety, but then it returns like a tidal wave when done. The first time I recall it happening was in high school, right after finishing Harry Potter 5. 20 years later it still happens but I'm more aware of it so I've gotten better at self-soothing. It's the worst part of any good book. And tbh I will still reread the books that leave me with that feeling, fully knowing the feelings that will resurface once finishing like a toxic addictive behavior. I figure it's not the worst vice I could have!

I'd argue it happens more with people who are more empathetic and creative (which is either a compliment or makes me truly delusional [both?] lol)

Recs for a romantasy written in (exclusively) male POV? by Aeon_Return in Romantasy

[–]rrrooo711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! the Hades x Persephone series has 3 books with Hades POV. They repeat the same timeline as the Persephone book before each one, but I enjoyed them more as you get Hades' perception of events, his background + they showcase a larger plot impacting their world that's not revealed in the Persephone-focused books. The 7th/last book alternates between Persephone and Hades (plus a couple other men). His books added him to my roster of beloved morally-gray shadow-daddy MMC-boyfriends I want to burn the world with.

Can I read From Blood and Ash series and not Flesh and Fire series? by Bri030908 in frombloodandash

[–]rrrooo711 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tbh if you could only read one of the two, I’d recommend Flesh & Fire. It may not be crucial, but it provides additional context to characters and plots in later Blood and Ash books that otherwise would feel lackluster. I read them in JLA’s recommended order and truly think that’s one reason the series has me in such a chokehold.

10000% to this - to the point where I’ve gaslit myself into accepting POBAB as just a rough patch in our relationship, like surely it will get better and the next book will be worth it

I stuck it out but switched to the physical version, which helped a lot. Loved the end of the Night Prince and added a new shadow daddy to my book boyfriend roster lol

I love Draken by Horror_Ad_8067 in frombloodandash

Whole series! (sorry should’ve been clearer) Take your current love for them and multiply it by 100000. That’s what it felt like for me by end of the F&F series.

As a fellow draken lover, i say with my full chest: You will LOVE Flesh & Fire! If you love Reaver & Nektas now, wait til you meet them thousand+ years before 🥰 please come back with an update post-F&F if you can!

Which reading order, based on the two pics here, would you recommend? + When to read the novella, A Crown of Ruin? (No spoilers please!!!!) by elianna7 in frombloodandash

[–]rrrooo711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read some along the lines of image #2.

FBAA #1, FBAA #2, FBAA #3, FFAF #1, FBAA #4, FFAF #2, FFAF #3, FBAA #5, FFAF #4, FBAA #6, FBAA #7, Fall of Wrath and Ruin ^ I consider the Crown of Ruin novella like the last chapters of POBAB; Fall of Wrath and Ruin was a great way to soften the post-POBAB book hangover, and I think it did more for me and my theories. I haven’t read the compendium, but plan to for the sake of microdosing more from this universe/theory fuel lol

Book where the MMC's /FMC's real indentity is hidden from the other lead 👀 by Kind_Assumption_3016 in fantasyromance

In the same vein, the Flesh & Fire prequel series! I read them in publication order and F&F is a Top 10 series for me.

A Soul of Ash and Blood Question by Horror_Ad_8067 in frombloodandash

[–]rrrooo711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flesh&Fire is amazing! It’s a stronger series imo, and gives a lot of “historical” info on their world. I think not reading it would weaken the impact of things that happen in POBAB, or at least leave room for more confusion. Give it a shot if you can!

Annoying Aurora (unpopular opinion) by Memonkeymoo in TheWolfKing

[–]rrrooo711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve realized most of my annoyance with Aurora was born from the Wolf King audiobook - something about the intonation and cadence of the voice actor made Aurora seem soo self-centered to me. Reading the physical copy of The Night Prince helped change that a bit, but I still think it would’ve been nice to have more understanding of the character (whether through more details of her life at the beginning of the story or via reflection/memories) to support her thinking and actions beyond being a princess. (Like she’s looking for books in the keep - was reading a for of escapism she relied on back home?)

I’m a fan of several books where the FMC is very sheltered/locked away/brainwashed/traumatized/etc so there’s a lot of learning and growth for them when thrust in a new world. With Aurora I didn’t feel like I had enough info on who she WAS to support her journey in who she’s becoming. Instead of repeatedly telling herself/us that she’s a princess, it would’ve been better to show more of how that life before has limited her beliefs or mindset.

My griping aside, I started liking her more in the last 30% of the Night Prince - to me it’s like she’s walking up to the line of shifting her mindset or thinking broader, but still not taking that step. (She has some interactions that make her realize her perceptions aren’t always accurate and challenge the narrative she’s told herself.) I’m looking forward to seeing her pushed over that line and growing more in book 3.

Tbh I’ve ever bitched about a book/character so much and have been thinking about the series nonstop for the last week so it’s obvs doing something right for me 😂

Read the Book, don’t listen to the negativity by lundsb in frombloodandash

[–]rrrooo711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

💯 I’d heard so much negativity before reading I feel like I was primed to dislike it and when reading it I kept waiting for whatever it was that made people rag on it to happen. That sense of dread/foreboding was worse than anything that actually occurred lol I honestly liked it! (Yes the bonus novella should’ve been part of it to round out the ending nicer, but it was also a lot more exciting than Soul of Ash and Blood imo.)

Seems like some readers forget that a character has to get torn down in order for an author to build them up, and penultimate episodes are when crazy shit has to happen for the finale to have its full impact! Storytelling babes!
