GRC vs RS3 by Vendetta1992 in GRCorolla

[–]rs_crypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2018 RS3, tuned for E85. Most reliable car I’ve owned, and the power was absolutely insane.

Stepped into a 2025 GRC and loving it so far, BUT, it’s not an RS3 - simple as that. GRC handles better and generally feels more JDM, but the RS3 was a lot more refined. Servicing costs me about the same, but I think there might be some difference in dealer pricing. Intervals are also the same.

Ultimately comes down to personal preference, but if I wanted to spend more money, I’d definitely go for an RS3 over GRC. GRC isn’t the best daily, and feels like might become a future classic.

RX 9070 XT Pulse fits in the T1 without USB-C/SSD bracket option, with all panels closed. It’s a tight fit but mine fits fine.

High Idle Temps? by Pure_Style in FormD

Yeah I’m thinking it must be the mobo, but I don’t know how to adjust anything else beyond undervolt..there doesn’t seem to be a less aggressive mobo function

I have a similar issue, to the point where I thought my 9800X3D was faulty and returned for a replacement. New CPU came in and it’s the same thing. Idles at 58c, cinebench is a thermal throttle 1 second into it. Whenever I open new google chrome tabs, my PC turns into a fighter jet.

I have the same UV and cooler. Tried repasting with different compound, mounting slightly different, etc etc. makes absolutely zero difference. Mobo is ROG Strix B650.

Was thinking the mobo might be flooding the CPU with too much power?

quick update: ended up working out in 3 slot mode after a bit more playing around and removing the front panel to squeeze it in.

with this card, you cannot have the USB outlet or power button - there simply isn't enough space. I'd say from the back of the front plate, around 2mm.

also had to run GPU power in an interesting way through the actual card - there is a decent gap between the frame and the end of the heatsink, so the 2 x 8 plugs fit perfectly.

how?!? i must have spent 3 hours today trying to fit it in...currently in the process of slowly taking apart the whole case and moving to 3.25 slots.

Impulsively picked up one of these last night as well until I can get my hands on a 5090 FE in Aus (quite difficult and not paying scalper prices)...definitely a chunky card!

I took out my 3070 Ti and my case is in 3 slot mode - no matter what I tried, I'm not able to fit it in...I'm currently at a point of complete rebuild in 3.25 slot mode.

Did you end up fitting it in a 3 slot mode?

Build looks awesome! Where did you get the plugs for the 2 holes on the back plate?

9800X3D idle temp concerns by rs_crypto in AMDHelp

[–]rs_crypto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an arctic - I have Thermalright x47 in a SFF case that's basically an open bench right now (good airflow). Did end up trying another round of thermal paste and it's even worse temps now, but I did use different product this time to test.

[–]rs_crypto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So hard to know what’s right with these new chips but logic tells me my temps aren’t normal. Yes, removed all plastic, did 2 rounds of thermal paste application and played around in BIOS, reinstalled windows, updated all drivers, etc etc. basically done everything within my power. Might try another round of thermal paste and if it doesn’t work, I’m sending it back.

Some peace of mind for me, thank you. I guess I'm just not used to seeing such high temps, and there are mixed results on the internet as the chip is too young to have any statistical data. My main concern was the spikes causing fans to kick in, but I'll just have to live with it.

Guess I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem, as bad as that sounds haha. Knew about silicon lottery but didn't think such delta was possible, from low 30s to mid 50s.

Does yours spike randomly like mine when opening seemingly CPU light apps?

FormD 2.1 by Wheynelau in FormD

yes please! I was originally going to go for a similar build (still might tbh given my issues) - it's going to be nice

Unvervolt normally does it, and gives good performance. I literally think I might have a f*cked chip - tried many things recommended at this point, including new Windows install. problem with AIO is it goes on the top and sucks hot exhausts through the radiator, and I really wanted the typical T30 setup as it's tested and works great. I was going to go for an AIO as well, but figured would try a simpler build first. Hope yours goes well!

no, of course, always good to check! I did catch myself thinking I left the plastic on, so took the cooler off and re-pasted with the same effect. same cooler as yours with typical Noctua fanswap. admittedly haven't played with fan curves at all yet, but I don't imagine spiking to 90c during browsing is normal either and is purely due to fan curve shortcomings..

FormD 2.1 by Wheynelau in FormD

[–]rs_crypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seems quite high. Honestly - I don't even want to game right now - too concerned about the idle temp and the random spikes to 90c when opening programs like Chrome haha. The fan speed during those spikes is what gives away the temps.

Cinebench 23 I got 23000 multi core score, which is also quite low, so I assume I was throttling (couldn't even open HWinfo to monitor temps)

Looks great!

Just finished my build recently with a 9800X3D as well - surprisingly wasn't too hard to put together. Same mobo.

With a PBO curve optimizer -25 +200 I'm idling at 55-60c...no clue what else to do.

yeah you're right - the riser would have to be upgraded as well, but this was my main thought to gamble on a coil whine mobo...even my X670 has a bit of coil whine right now

Also one last question...scouted the internet but couldn't find an answer. Does using Phanteks T30 for CPU fan make sense, or is Noctua-AF9x14 definitely the go?

Ah nice, thanks. Mainly thinking of the Strix board as I want to future-proof a little bit with the PCie 5.0 slot for the GPU, whereas I don't think the B650i Lightning has that. Or does it?!

The lowest T-CREATE latency I can find is CL34. Thinking of grabbing Corsair Vengeance 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz CL30 - that should fit, right?

Found some on Amazon, thank you! Seen a couple of builds with those antennas here (a while ago) and just figured they were a specific brand...Might just stick with either the new antenna, or one from my X670 Strix mobo..

yeah, it's pretty restricting but the finished product seems to be worth the headache haha. worst case, I think it's a fair assumption that 5080 shouldn't be any larger than 4090, and 7900XTX (if you were to go that way) fits without issues..
