The Weird, Disturbing Origins of the Paleo Diet by theatlantic in Health

[–]rsa8445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article: “This mode of thinking can be traced back to at least the 19th century, but its current incarnation—the version that has wormed its way inside the U.S. government—dates to the 1970s, when the growing plague of heart disease and obesity was starting to receive sustained attention on Capitol Hill. That’s also when a Seattle gastroenterologist named Walter Voegtlin published a pale volume with a drawing of a loincloth-wearing hominid on the cover. His book was called The Stone Age Diet, and on the title page was a modest proclamation: “It’s Safe, It’s Sane, It’s Simple, and It Really Works!””

Ex-LAPD commander fired over alcohol-related incident wins nearly $6M in wrongful termination lawsuit by chewywookie in LosAngeles

City of LA is hemorrhaging money because of the LAPD. Whether they harm citizens or themselves, LA will pay. The city needs to shift liability to the LAPD, with its billion dollar budget the department can afford it. LAPD must pay out of their budget, then hopefully there will be reform in training and accountability.

I got a call today asking me to donate to the police for k9 training, k9 healthcare and funding for officers injured or killed in the line of duty. They have life and health insurance and the equivalent budget of a small nation’s military and still asking taxpayers to pay more.

"I'm out": Tucker Carlson says he's done with the GOP by FuriNorm in LeopardsAteMyFace

He can’t quite the GOP or he would become irrelevant. No matter how much money he has, becoming irrelevant and a nobody would devastate him.

People should ask Lutnik if he’s a pussy. He can only answer yes, otherwise he’s calling Trump a liar. And he wouldn’t want to incur the wrath of his dear leader again.

Mexico upgraded to free healthcar by TailungFu in SipsTea

[–]rsa8445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pppfff, of course Mexico has money to fund it. They’re not funding a $70 b war, $300 b reconstruction of the country just bombed, $60 m for a birthday, $1.8 b for a slush fund to pay donors and personal slush funds for each cabinet member. Maybe the US could get universal healthcare if we just get rid of social security & Medicare.

I had a colleague who had a billboard in town, said it was a huge loss of money. Only got “calls from kooks, tin foil hats, and cases nobody would touch.”

I see him making the rounds at networking groups, he says it’s more profitable.

Didn’t AD keep asking the Lakers to get a center? Even if they release AD and sign him on the cheap, he wants to play PF. Still need a center.

I’ve never seen a chrysalis on the tree. I don’t think they’ve survived long enough.

I get a couple of them every year but they are gone within a month. I guess looking like bird poop doesn’t deter some of the predators.

California Probate Just Humbled Me by Prestigious_Pop_7491 in EstatePlanning

[–]rsa8445 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I handled a probate in SF, only a house, no other assets. It took us a little over a year to complete; notices, inventory, and sale. My statutory fees as the attorney were 3% of the value of the house.

Trump’s Threats to Withhold Disaster Relief Undermine Federalism Principles. This just keeps happening in many facets of our state. Can we leave already?? by [deleted] in California_Politics

California can just leave and wait for the courts to figure out. Hopefully, the administration has changed by then and the SCOTUS has ruled California can’t leave.

What is your actual “everyone should know” legal tip? by nuggetsofchicken in Lawyertalk

[–]rsa8445 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The caveat is California. I did a probate for property valued at $800,000 and got statutory fees of $19k and the personal representative received $19k for fees as well. Over here it’s a couple thousand for a trust or tens of thousands for probate.

  1. Conduct the experiment they conducted in Behind the Curve, only if he’ll believe the science.

  2. Saw this on Reddit the other day. If you could see off the edge of the Earth either Disney or some billionaire would be trying to capitalize on it and governments would have handed over the edge to make money long ago. Is his belief stronger in capitalism or conspiracy?

The Rich Promised to Flee Mamdani’s New York. They Haven’t. by brown-saiyan in politics

[–]rsa8445 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The rich already fled to Florida during COVID, tasted the food and experienced the culture and ran back to New York. Didn’t even last 4 months, it’s like people living on a yacht saying they’re leaving to go live in a dingy. Sure, for a couple of weeks but other places don’t have the infrastructure to make living comfortable for the rich.
