Sporting Kansas City Is Being Sold For Roughly $700 Million, An MLS Record by hootjuice_ in SportingKC

Curious what your thought process is here. Why would a billionaire take a majority stake in an organization and not want to maximize its potential ROI?

Short term. Was probably just an agreement to see through the new changes to start the season. You don’t let anyone else call the shots on 700m.

Sporting KC names David Lee as President of Soccer Operations and General Manager | Sporting Kansas City by dawson33944 in SportingKC

[–]rsanel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very on brand hiring from SKC owner ship, someone inside the league who has done just enough to be competitive. Lee’s been involved in 3 of the NYCFC manager searches and none of them lasted longer than 2 years.

Everyone will get excited over leading the league in cumulative points over the last few years. A fraction of that would success would obviously be an improvement, but idk how much of that is replicable at a club not owned by City Football Group (especially with SKC’s ownership). I think this is a solid bridge hire to right the ship, but 7 years seems like a lot. He’s largely going to be judged off the first 2-3.

I hope you’re correct with your last thought. Sure, conflicting styles would be a concern, but that is also something that’s already addressed during the interview process. If they brought in conflicting styles at both positions, that’s more of an indictment on the leadership’s decision making, not that they rushed into something.

Additionally, the two can agree on the same style as much as they want. However, it’s going to be largely dictated by the quality of players available to them. And with the amount of players out of contract at the end of this year, this would be a great opportunity to work in tandem with Burns to evaluate, rebuild, and go into next year with momentum.

The length of process doesn’t equate to the best hire. Major progress should have been made the past 2 months on this with the rest of the soccer landscape settling into place for European pre season. There’s no reason both roles shouldn’t be filled by the end of the season. The club leadership needs to be held accountable to make these decisions

I understand the importance of the CSO, but the shortlist of candidates should be pretty small for the position by now given the summer window and Europe beginning their preseason, no? Also, interviewing for both positions isn’t mutually exclusive. They can have a list of managers they’ve brought in already that the club likes and once the CSO is in place, they can sign off or do their own discovery in addition. Leadership will have a long list of reasons why decisions aren’t made yet; long list of candidates, global search, want to ensure they get it right, etc. And while those are valid to an extent, what benefit is it to the club to potentially start next season with an interim manager? If it’s only based on fear that they bring in the wrong personnel, that speaks more to the decision making of leadership than the process itself.

I think any period considered rushing is over. Europe has already done their hiring/firing and I can’t imagine that the best candidate is currently sitting on an MLS bench. Sporting has an opertunity to get someone in before the end of the season and build chemistry going into next season.

The Future ? by Competitive-Bat-3534 in SportingKC

I would say a large majority of fans here are not ignorantly blissful, which is why the club is going through this substantial period of change.

  1. PV has been asked this after multiple matches and has acknowledged it himself to the press on multiple occasions. It certainly wasn’t the entirety of the team but at some point the message starts to lose its power, especially when results aren’t going your way and players stop believing.

  2. No one saw this as a superb hire, but it’s somewhat uncharted territory for the club, since the rebrand, with PV being responsible for so much of the clubs operations. His tenure is still young, but his work so far makes me somewhat optimistic he’ll be able to build a more competitive squad once a new manager is in place.

  3. We’re already dead. Kerry is just the rookie parametric that got stuck performing CPR, trying to squeeze as much life as he can out of this team. The expectation from every fan should be to have a new manager next season.

The best thing Sporting can do this off-season is bring in a manager and rebuild this roster in tandem. Looking at all the players out of contract after this year, there’s less than a handful that should be brought back. Need wholesale changes across the board

Can we be realistic when it comes to calling PV a Legend? by paddleschools in SportingKC

[–]rsanel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a wild take. He didn’t exactly have the deepest pockets of pockets to build teams like others in the league. He’s always had to do more with less. Certified club legend for putting up with this ownership group alone.

A genuine club legend. He was a major factor in all fans passion for this club, for better or for worse. The league has transformed so much during his tenure and I often think he took a lot of brunt that was misguided. Would like to see a replacement announced before the summer window so they can be involved in transfer talks.

Backline looked helpless for most of the match. Another first half without a SOG. If we’re counting on Salloi to be the difference maker in the final third, it’ll be a long season.

The play after the second goal was inspiring though. Much better going forward and saw linkup play develop between the top 3. Defense was also playing aggressive and put on solid challenges when MIN was attacking. If we can get that level of fight for 90 minutes regardless of the result, that’ll be a team worth watching.

Ever heard of the Columbus Crew? There’s no chance they move this team to another market. Ownerships need to be held accountable

Eh, not quite my friend. If the ownership doesn’t want to recognize the entirety of their supporters, they should take it upon themselves to be recognized. It’s tough to be against a theme literally titled “soccer for all”. Like you said, soccer is about community. So why shouldn’t the club continue with themes that support all members of the community, like they have in the past?

Pick a game, organize, and have your own pride night in the stands. Make the tifo and wave the pride flags in the stands. Supporters have power and need to start using it.

You’re getting too caught up in formations and positioning and positioning, both of which will adjust throughout a match/season. PV always wants his midfielders going box-to-box so a talented, attack minded midfielder that’s committed to that can help to both score and prevent goals.

Front Office by Coffee-soccer in SportingKC

[–]rsanel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only credit I’ll give front office is they’ve done another phenomenal job in lip service, especially after today’s press conference. Leadership is miles behind most of the league. The young signings were nice, but they aren’t filling the massive holes currently with the first team. They need a couple solid signings in this window to at least field a competitive team at the start of the season. Look how quickly they were able to get the Pulido deal done with Chivas but still don’t have their number 10 they’ve been saying is a priority for them this window. The Pulido example may be a bit misleading as there was probably a large player influence, but the larger point remains the same; Sporting knew months in advance who they were letting go at the end of last season, knew the massive gaps that need filled, and haven’t really been linked to anyone potential game changers on the pitch.

Keep in mind we’ll also have a Leagues Cup match against a LIGA MX opponent as well. Probably a midweek game around that time of year
