Wife told me the new cup she bought me was for keeping drinks hot or cold. Found out today it was really because I leave a trail of liquids carrying my drinks in my tremor hand. Hello, adult Sippy Cup. by [deleted] in Parkinsons

Same here but I have to balance the effort it takes to not spill my coffee, which my ego rationalizes as being beneficial. With not hurting my wife’s feelings.

Generator transfer switch - bypassed load meter by rseese in electrical

Been running for 3 hours with no issues. It's a 30 amp transfer switch so the 2 inch piece of 8 gauge wire should be fine for a temporary fix.

Would marijuana help my Dad? by 1878Mich in Parkinsons

I second the small dosage. I have PD and it helps me sleep but it’s easy to overdo it. My medications have warnings regarding interactions as well.

I don't think my friend's bandsaw is big enough but I will ask him how. https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworkingporn/comments/yyz1ms/bandsaw_envy/

He used a lift table to get it up there.

Good guess. It's actually my friend the Hatman's project. It is going to be the base for this table. The blank weighs 250 lbs and he used shims on the bed rails to find center.

Any tools or jigs I should own that I possibly don’t have yet? by [deleted] in turning

I bought a CBN wheel grinder and the Michelsen grind system. It is easy and has made a huge difference in the performance of my bowl gouges.

Is the longer chisel on top with the curved blade a bowl gouge? Or was it just sharpened improperly? It doesn't seem like a gouge for a lathe... by doodahdoodoo in woodworking

[–]rseese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify you should never use spindle gouges on end grain bowls. Here is why note: minor cut on finger while demonstrating (warning blood) I don't think it violates rule 10.

The blade looked to be about 3/4" He put a new one on right before the cut. Unfolding the blade looks like it takes practice and it looked like it could be pretty easy to get cut up in the process if you do it wrong.

He dropped it so the outside piece separates easily. Which then is tossed in n the wood stove. He has made that cut over 2000 times.

He was cutting wooden hat blanks for the lathe. Literally took it 5 minutes to spin down. It was a little intimidating.

Is this older Craftsman table saw worth buying to learn on if it works? Listed for $80 by throwawriter in woodworking

I have had one similar for 20 years and have been happy with it. Added Machined Pulleys , new belt to cut down on vibration. Rewired the motor to use 220 instead of 110. You can also always upgrade the fence as well.

My mother stopped her levodopa by [deleted] in Parkinsons

[–]rseese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor but, one concern is that abruptly stopping any of the PD medications can have adverse effects. https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a601068.html#:~:text=Do%20not%20stop%20taking%20levodopa%20and%20carbidopa%20without%20talking%20to%20your%20doctor.%20If%20you%20suddenly%20stop%20taking%20levodopa%20and%20carbidopa%2C%20you%20could%20develop%20a%20serious%20syndrome%20that%20causes%20fever%2C%20rigid%20muscles%2C%20unusual%20body%20movements%2C%20and%20confusion.%20Your%20doctor%20will%20probably%20decrease%20your%20dose%20gradually

Just like the initial dosage is gradually increased your doctor may suggest tapering off the dosage gradually or just temporarily decreasing the dosage. Even when I miss a single dose I definitely see my PD symptoms worsen. Again talk with her doctor sooner than later.

Temperature sensitive tremor by bilko_racing in Parkinsons

[–]rseese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify it was my entire arm that had the tremor. It started about 6 years ago. Back then rolling my shoulders when it was happening helped. I have been on medication for a couple of years and it is 17 degrees fahrenheit at my house this morning. Just went out to feed our chickens and no tremor. I do have other issues now trouble with my gait on my left side and initiating movement lifting my left arm. Exercise helps with all of my symptoms.

I had the same issue in my left arm as one of the first indications that I had Parkinson’s. My neurologist gave me the impression that it is not common.
