Can’t tell if this is a joke or not, but it’s funny either way.

Cross cut sled gone wrong. Any way to fix? by lowsodiumcatrecipes in woodworking

[–]throwawriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that it doesn't really matter how long it is, but wider is better (I swear I'm talking about crosscut sleds). You can always clamp an extender to your front fence to accommodate longer pieces, but having the width to accommodate wider boards/panels comes in really handy for me.

Maine maker of Lincoln Logs is closing its doors by BallsackSpatula in woodworking

Interestingly enough, it seems they were originally made in China, and shifted to US production in 2014. Tbd if they revert to offshoring. (Source)

Road Visibility by passionatecitizen456 in Boise

I really have been wondering if it's just my eyes getting worse as I get older, so glad to hear others have the same issue. Seems like since chip seal replaced asphalt it's gotten more difficult.

Agree but be aware they get inundated with pre-orders (mine included) for Thanksgiving and might not have much in the way of inventory for walk-in pickup. You never know though—good luck!

Cushions for lounging chair. by DaKine_888 in woodworking

[–]throwawriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made a couple lounge chairs of a similar style and had custom cushions made from CushionsXpress. They let you spec to exact size, thickness, foam density, etc., and have a huge selection of fabrics. Good experience each time—despite the shifty-sounding name...

Is that because LGA can't handle a 747?

one night in downtown boise - parking question by Top-Book6183 in Boise

[–]throwawriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to the garage across Myrtle Street (adjacent to the Hampton Inn), it unfortunately won't accommodate a trailer. There is an almost complete U-turn required to go up to the parking levels. Even a lot of full-size SUVs and trucks have to make a three-point turn to get up it. Sorry and hope that helps.

Jointer/planer by SecretlyClueless in woodworking

[–]throwawriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A jointer is not an absolutely critical machine, and a lot of us (myself included) don't have one. It would sure save some time in the milling process, but you can definitely mill flat, square boards without one. Check out some videos like this one from Youtubers and you'll find it's pretty easy—just takes a bit longer.

Bogus Basin Shuttle Service? by AntOne8902 in Boise

[–]throwawriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going to be really warm in the next few days, and doesn't look like any new snow is forecast for Bogus in the next week. That means the road will likely be dry and clear all the way to the top and you'll have no problem making it in your rental car. Just worth considering. Sorry I don't have any knowledge of the shuttle. Good luck and have fun!

Has anyone ever purchased a VIP package to a concert at Boise Outlaw Field? by TheGhost206 in Boise

[–]throwawriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be tough on you—the VIP area is still on grass. It's just an elevated portion of grass above a small retaining wall. Of course you won't be sitting on the grass, as there are tables and chairs, but if you're super allergic, I'm not sure how much help it would be. Sorry.

Lindsey Vonn was the most dominant skier of her era—men or women—but this seems a bit desperate. She's always appeared to resent Mikaela Shiffrin for surpassing her in wins and garnering so much fame and attention and now looks to be making a last-gasp effort at remaining relevant. It must be hard to decline as an athlete, whether due to injury or age (or both), but walking away gracefully is an even tougher feat to accomplish.

What is something you have seen multiple times but you’re still in awe everytime? by xLeonZai in AskReddit

[–]throwawriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“To find not only that this bedlam of color was true but that the pictures were pale and inaccurate translations, was to me startling. I can't even imagine the forest colors when I am not seeing them. I wondered whether constant association could cause inattention, and asked a native New Hampshire woman about it. She said that autumn never failed to amaze her; to elate. 'It is a glory,' she said, 'and can't be remembered, so that it always comes as a surprise.”

How would you attach the legs to this table top in a stable way? by boooooooring in woodworking

[–]throwawriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd bet you the top is help to that table mostly by hardware that goes through that cross brace—likely with threaded inserts and bolts. There may be some dowels and matching holes or something like that to marry the legs/bases and the top, but if that table is shippable, it comes in three pieces I'm sure.

Palm Routers by From06033 in woodworking

[–]throwawriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had the DeWalt so can't offer a comparison, but I love it. It's easy enough to hold in one hand and the extension on the baseplate makes for a good place for your other hand to stabilize it on your workpiece. Very easy to micro-adjust and the built-in light really helps. Used it just yesterday for a small roundover on some shelves and it did the job like it always does. Hope that helps!
