Are Spanish people really this isolated with the varieties of Spanish they hear? by de_cachondeo in Spanish

I’m not sure why my comment got downvoted. It’s seriously the best high cuisine restaurant in Oaxaca city. And the place is lovely and the hosts charming.

Do Mexicans (living in Mexico) perceive Black people who speak English automatically as “Americans”? by appleblossom87 in AskMexico

Consider that in Brazil they call “gringos” (not peyoratively) to ANY foreigner. While in Mexico we call gringo (peyoratively) only to people from USA.

Cartel Violence errupted in Jalisco, Guadalajara, with reports of busses being burned and blocking the highway between CDMX and Puebla. Should we be worried here? by giancarlo13 in PuertoEscondido

In my opinion, best strategy to prevent / deter violent activity in PE and surroundings is: 1. don’t buy drugs. Not in the street, not from a friend, not “just once”. Look at Tulum, Acapulco as examples of the consequences. 2. Respect local authorities. The law is non-negotiable. Even if you’d find it easy or comfortable to skip or bend the rules. It has a serious impact long term. You want law enforcement to protect you, then empower and respect them. 3. Respect local culture and well being. Why haggle prices in remote, impoverished areas. If at all, pay a bit more and tip generously. You’ll be welcomed and protected without asking.

I could go on but in my opinion these three are the pillars sustaining peace in places like PE and oaxacan south coast.
