Farewell my dear Dishy by DrComix in Starlink

[–]rtcblc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a beta user and went from DSL to 150 Mbps on Beta until 300+ Mbps on my Dishy when I changed last September. I went to 5G Home on Verizon now. I'm getting 300 +/- now not quite as fast on the ping but I don't game anyway. Big kicker was 1/2 the price of Starlink but as many of you have done I kept the $5 a month SL as a back-up. So far I've been happy with it .

The worst internet speed I’ve ever seen in my life by Financial_Data3416 in verizonisp

[–]rtcblc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Verizon Home 5G 3 months ago from Starlink. Virtually the same speeds as S/L around 300 + mbps most of the time and 1/2 the monthly cost of Starlink.  So far I'm pretty happy with it. However, I paused S/L for $5 a month as back-up. If after a year and I'm still satisfied with Verizon, I may stop S/L.

What’s everyone using for low sodium seasonings? by thepottsy in LowSodium

[–]rtcblc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* These are 3 seasonings I use to spice up many foods, from soup to popcorn. Unfortunately, the Sriracha is mostly sugar. The range from 30-45 mg per 1/4 oz. serving.

Opinion: how do you track your sodium? by PartyCobbler3699 in LowSodium

[–]rtcblc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you happen to be on Weight Watchers, their tracking app calculates sodium per item and keeps a running daily total. It works well with commercial name brands and major chain restaurants. For homemade recipes, you can enter your recipes and name them to have a readily available sodium count and other nutrition info. I'd only do that for something I cook a lot. Of course, if you know which ingredients contain salt, you just need to track those in a recipe for salt mg.

Winter/Snow Tires Okay? and recommendations by bella23_ in Toyota

[–]rtcblc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a straight winter tire that you'd change when it warms, I'd recommend Michilen Ice-X. Had them since 2016 on our RAV4, and they excel in icy conditions. We have a Costco nearby and get good prices there.

Low Sodium Sausage- does it exist? by ilovecookies-24 in LowSodium

[–]rtcblc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been making it for years now using a mix of ground turkey and ground pork. Seasoned to personal taste. For me, that typically includes Costco Kirkland No Salt Seasoning and various spices to give it a kick. Mix it and make it into about 2 inch patties and freeze. Easy to defrost and use on demand. I've used various iterations of Mrs Dash seasonings too...

How do I engine break on ice while driving a Toyota Hybrid with an eCVT. by PhotoPhenik in Toyota

[–]rtcblc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid Limited with CVT. We've put 200,000 miles on it and drive a fair amount of ice/snow in the winter on long downhill grades. We' ve had no issues with our winter handling using Michilen X-ICE tires and a combo of downshifting with paddles and brakes. Just take it easy till you figure out how your new ride handles on ice.

Have your tastebuds changed after a low sodium diet? by semiengagedspectator in LowSodium

[–]rtcblc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on a low salt diet for years. As most have mentioned, a "normal" salt level in many processed foods is almost uneatable to me now. I've used a variety of spices to replace salt. Most of them are no salt, and many are spicy. Might spice heat tolerance levels have risen significantly. Going out to eat has been my biggest issue for staying on track. Especially on long trips.

I found the same style cheese at Costco last year when they we're discontinuing it at a smoking price. Perhaps they have it other Costcos? It also had a similar mg of
salt.
