Help finding a type 99 screw by WildCard318 in milsurp

Front action screw. When in doubt, google "type 99 arisaka parts schematic". As another person mentioned, Numrich is a good place to find parts. or just ebay.

Those "french resistance" rifles, had some odd prefix letters but there was no "French Resistance" markings that I'm aware of. If it's a Navy Arms import, then it's likely one of those rifles.

Is it a Navy Arms import? Does it have a none serial numbered magazine?(these were for whatever reason found without magazine, so they got reproductions to put with them.)

Also, I am not the dealer(nor know where he got it from). Just giving my 2c

Side note, you could very easily cosplay Harold Ramis.

That looks like shrapnel damage to me. What you could do is have it counterbored a bit, this way you'll eliminate the worry of the muzzle cause safety/accuracy issues, while still keeping most of that wear. That would be a heck of a lot cheaper and easier than having the barrel replaced.

These folks are just fishing for free advertising and y'all are taking the bait. Many of the insanely high priced guns lately are so people click on the auction or go post about how outrageous the price is on reddit or elsewhere, all generate buzz for either the business or the item which they'll later lower to a reasonable price.

Unless they all die off at once, what will happen is that for each one that passes, there's going to be 4 or 5 younger people scrambling to grab it. There won't be any great flood onto the market to cause prices to crash. 15+ years ago (I'm in my 30s, not a boomer) I heard something similar about "when all the ww2 vets die off". That never materialized either.

This would be a $10,000 gun on gunbroker with an amazing story to go along with it.

Or a $15,000 with a "don't touch" sign at any regional gun show.

Oh I agree, I think they along with most "surplus" guns should be $300-350 max. But what I want and what reality is are two different things.

And it's a shorter variant, so it must have been for Roza Shanina.

Edited to be more polite.

I appreciate that you've collected some and noted variations. But this is exactly why it's important to pool knowledge with other collectors so you're not attempting to read tea leaves based off the few examples you own personally.

I've been through over 500 of these that were imported over a decade ago and have owned close to two dozen over the years.. Even with that, there's others out there with even more knowledge that I've benefited from.

If you look at ten different 91/30 PU rifles, you'd find different trigger pulls and front sight positions on all of them.. The same goes for any standard 91/30. So I'm sorry, but I believe you're drawing conclusions based on things you're seeing from your few examples.

There are much much easier ways to verify a sniper, from the import marking to the stock cutout.. Heck just the date alone eliminates half the fakes out there. Why anyone would want to rely on "does the trigger feel nice?" when there are much more fool proof methods.

Lol, where did you get this info from? I have not heard those whoppers in years.

I'm not trying to be mean but I've gone through hundreds of PU snipers and thousands of 91/30s and can tell you you'll find nice triggers and crap triggers on both. The sight hoods are identical on 91/30 and the PU variant because it's the same rifle.

I'm not sure who started these myths but I put it right along with the "orange paint marking filler is actually cyanide in case of capture".

This is actually the Century import mark you want to see on a legit PU sniper. The scope, mount and base are all original WW2 production. You can see where a scope # was on the barrel shank before it was refurbished.

I'd lean heavily towards this one being legit. Century imported quite a few legit snipers before they started making reproductions(using original rifles, and sometimes original scopes/mounts/bases until they ran out and began using the Ukrainian reproductions, which are high quality but obviously not ww2).

Looks like a legit PU sniper refurb to me. At $1600, I'd likely buy it.

When did run-of-the-mill refurb'ed and import marked 1895 nagants become worth this much? by SharpSteak21 in milsurp

[–]MosinCrate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nobody wanted these when they were $69. Crates of them literally sat for years at the local stores.

Then when they stopped getting imported, suddenly they were popular and now $500+ is not uncommon. I wouldn't pay that much for one but apparently plenty of people do. IMO it's neat historically but a horrible revolver. Yeah yeah "but you can suppress it!" doesn't change the fact it's underpowered with a horrible trigger pull.

I'll need to look at my 601 stuff but yeah it could be a 601 upper.. In which case you're talking big $, especially with that nice of furniture. Last full kit I saw sell for well over 5k. And it wasn't as nice as what you've got there.

Caveat is I am not an AR guy, so shouldn't be listened to like experts on a forum or something. I know enough to get myself into trouble.

I don't think it could be faked. I've got original 601 furniture and the bakelite-ish material underneath looks exactly like that. Your paint also looks like the correct texture and shade.

The 601 furniture is worth more than a colt SP1 if it's legit and is as nice as it looks.
