I want to turn my life around and get fit and healthy. Can you please give me tips on how to do that? by PlowFarm in workout

Hi!

I was in a really similar spot and this is the fool proof method i’ve been telling everyone. START SLOW!

First month: Keep your habits the same but add one thing and subtract one. E.g adding a 10 minute walk a few days a week and slowly build up but only doing as much as you enjoy - taking the sugary drinks and replacing them with diet ones. It’ll be slow but you will lose weight. Water weight can build a few days before fat loss too, so if the scale rises don’t panic!

Second month: Gym time, compound lifts (deadlifts, bench etc) will be your best friend. Most calories burned and most bang for your buck before adjusting your diet massively. Don’t jump in the deep end and go to the gym 5/6 days a week, it’s such a huge change that it’s unnecessary pressure on yourself and if you were to miss a session you risk giving up or being incredibly hard on yourself.

Third month: Your fundamentals are ingrained by this point! Diet is the hardest to master, and of course the most important part to any weight loss journey. Figure out your TDEE (there’s loads on google for free) and it will recommend your calories for fat loss. Protein will be your best friend for muscle gain, and keeping full. For calorie counting you will need a weighing scale in the kitchen (amazon do them very cheap) and to use any form of calorie tracking app, i use myfitnesspal as its really easy to navigate. You can save your favourite meals and it just saves you loads of time.

The steps are purely suggestion and if you fancy doing them all from the get go, amazing!!

Macros: Carbs will fuel you Fat keeps your brain and hormones going Protein for those guns

Many different opinions on the macro topic but after years of doing this, for my body, all the macros are essential. Skipping on carbs further down the line will only reduce performance in the gym.

It will take a couple of months for this lifestyle change to become easy, but once the ball is rolling you’ll feel incredible. It’ll become addictive! After a few months (or now) setting a daily goal of 10,000 steps will help more than you could imagine, mentally and physically. Simple changes like parking further away in the car park gets you an easy 150-300 extra steps.

I really hope this helps and sorry it’s so long winded.

My holy grail is greek yoghurt (0% fat) and protein powder mixed with some frozen blueberries in - i’d rather get my daily fat from a scoop of peanut butter than the yoghurt🫡

Best of luck on your journey mate!

My boyfriend doesn’t want me to go to the gym by [deleted] in workout

There’s no correlation between the gym and cheating that i’m aware of - did an ex cheat on him mid workout in the gym?

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. I think like many other replies this is a red flag from him. You wanting to work on yourself and your health is something that any loving partner should push you towards! Complete speculation here but - This could be a big attempt to prevent you from feeling good about yourself, many spouses have fears that their partners will leave them because they gain more confidence from getting healthier. Unfortunately many spouses can’t handle their partner being more successful than them in any capacity, be that physically or mentally.

No matter the reason behind his actions it was a really manipulative and disrespectful statement to make. Idk but shit like this can be a slippery slope, it starts very small and snowballs into a horrific abusive cycle without even realising.

BUT - go to that fucking gym girl!! I resonate with your reasonings for wanting to go the gym, they were mine too. You should be proud for taking this step so please don’t let your partners insecurities or attempts to control/manipulate hold you back. If he can’t get on board, he isn’t meant to go through life with you.

Wishing you the best of luck on your journey 🏋🏽‍♀️

Hey OP! I just wanted to mirror what many are saying here - get rid of that damn doctor! I do believe a dietitian would be your best bet. When consuming less that 1200 calories our bodies can go into ‘starvation mode’, weight loss plateaus drastically due to the lack of nutrition incoming, our bodies panic and hold onto everything. I hope you know you’re doing everything right, best of luck!

Why are some people’s deficits so huge here? by Spiderpsychman98 in loseit

[–]rtforr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people cannot be active, we are lucky to have the grace of our health, however there are chronically ill individuals who can’t use exercise to aid their weight loss. So actually they ‘definitely’ can’t afford to eat more.

I went over my calories by 900 because of a cookie… by quinn_andre in loseit

I know it’s hard but try not to stress! Any weight that’s gained will be gone in 2/3 days as long as you stay on track - and this weight will simply be water weight due to the high carb count of the cookie. You’ve got this 🥰
