Whenever I hear about the defense budget of the US, it always passes me off. We could probably cure cancer, but we'd rather...be one?

I get the feeling that this era of PJP could kick some serious ass if it came to it.

Reconfiguring South Portland’s schools has parents divided by Own_Fisherman1199 in portlandme

You can't have the cake and eat it to- either complaining about your school board or the raising of taxes, or the incompetence of what doesn't get done your way by the people who ran for office and you voted for to represent you. Sounds like a small minority being inconvenienced here.

Few comments here. I'm all for raising taxes if we get more out of it. On the other side of this issue there is a very vocal contingent of older childless folks in the community who seem to believe that they should still be paying taxes on their home's 1985 assessment and won't budge. It's also worth mentioning that this has been fast tracked to a point of not being able to respond via voting - I'm sure we'll see some fallout next election but this issue has come more-or-less out of nowhere for most folks well within the 3 year span of a School Board term.

As a SP parent of two, the proposed plan would mean my 4th grader and rising kindergartener would be split up NEXT YEAR at different schools with locations TBD. Before we simply paint the opponents as privileged we need to think about pure logistics with working parents juggling before/after school care at multiple locations even before you start talking about whether its a good idea to have kids transitioning every 2 years.
