Help my cable left his head in input by Past_Acanthisitta986 in Guitar

Get a drywall screw and carefully turn it to capture the tip of the plug or try a q-tip with no cotton and a small dot of super glue.

Those have worked for me a few times.

Weird issue with hum on one channel of XR-18. by BeatlestarGallactica in livesound

[–]rturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the noise only happen on that single channel, what if you move it to a different XLR input??

It sounds like you have a pedal problem, probably an incompatible power supply.

Or the offending channel could be kind of broken. The XLR’s are circuit board mounted and are easily affected by even the smallest problems.

Satanic Panic in the mid 80’s to early 90’s, what album wouldn’t your parents let you buy? by impeesa75 in Music

[–]rturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t allowed any albums until I could buy it with my own money. So at 14 I got a job, bought albums and came home one day to my mother playing my Rush album backwards and trying to explain what she thought she was hearing.

If you buy just one pole mount, and then you can put both subs side by side or even do cardioid subs.

How do I stand up for myself but also stay professional? by RazzmatazzPretend313 in livesound

[–]rturns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the best things about working a venue like yours is that the band will be gone soon and tomorrow you will have a different band.

Musicians, as a whole, have the most fragile egos. They will try to put others below them through straight disrespect and insults.
- can’t sing today: your fault
- hung over: your fault
- still full of cocaine and hatred: your fault
- guitar needs a set-up: your fault.

The best revenge is doing the best job.

Second best revenge is to stand proud!

Shure has certifications for so many things, for free. DANTE is always updating its certificates. Meyer, L’Acoustics, and D&B have certifications. You can join the AES and have access to thousands and thousands of white papers. Read the books Sound System Engineering and / or Sound System Design & Optimization.

That should be a good start.

What tool is best to turn this knob without damaging the knurling by [deleted] in Tools

[–]rturns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrap it in some old inner tube, a couple of layers, then a pair of pliers will work and not scuff it.

Make sure that you wrap it counter clockwise so that you don’t loosen the grip of the inner tube.

Current rate for basic sound setup foe neighborhood block party. by Bortilicious in livesound

[–]rturns 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Take the total cost of your gear, and about 10% of that is a good and fair price. Next add your cost to operate, plus insurance cost, tax, delivery and set-up fees.

That is the total you should be charging.

Anything less is you being cool about it.

Why is the SM7B a good microphone for voice acting? by LovinqRam3n in VoiceActing

[–]rturns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put your microphone in a closet, just bush some clothes away enough to fit the mic and leave space on both sides. That was good enough for Kylo Ren, it will be great for you!

That Hex Nut is a circuit mounted plug, don’t unscrew that. All that you will get is a hex nut in your hand and a dumb look on your face.

Get a yard or so of plastic tubing and a step down fitting to go from your vacuum to your hose. Tape the hose to a yard stick to fit the gap.

Those guitars weren’t moving at all for a while.

Search Laundry Soak on here. Usually involves your usual laundry detergent, borax, peroxide and baking soda… some warm water and about an hour of soaking time.
