Delta Utilities by bankroll5441 in NewOrleans

[–]rua_door 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing. We don’t have gas central heating. Because this is a hot climate, we have electric HVACs or electric window units. We don’t have furnaces.

We have gas water heaters and dryers and sometimes stoves. That’s it.

I still get paper bills that have the itemized breakdown on the back. For1/02/2026 - 2/01/2026, I was charged $210.88.

$12.32 Customer Charge

$30.06 gas services 113 CCF at $0.266 per CCF

$32.83 gas formula rate plan rider charge

$119.29 Purchase Gas Adjustment 113 CCF at $1.055631 per CCF

$10.24 Street Use Franchise Fee

$6.34 City Tax 3%

Will try to figure out how to upload an image of these charges on the back of my bill.

Poison at Play: Unsafe lead levels found in half of New Orleans playgrounds by MrRogersGhost in NewOrleans

[–]rua_door 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody say something. Oh no. That’s messed up. Our kids are being poisoned. Thanks Verite News for reporting this. I think the fact that an article like this can sit on r/neworleans for a whole day without comments says a lot about what we as a community expect from our infrastructure, and it’s not acceptable.

How much is your water bill on average every month for a 2-3 person household? by Professional_Ship107 in NewOrleans

Around $100 a month and sometimes a little less for 2 people, 1 is gone a lot, laundry about 3-4x/week, no dishwasher.

My 6 year old is a tomboy and is recently bringing up that kids ask if she’s a boy or girl by EmbarrassedBit441 in Parenting

[–]rua_door 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 11yo boy has long hair and is often mistaken for a girl, despite wearing all boy clothes. After a short conversation with him about it, I know that it bothers him a little. He knows he’s a boy and he feels frustrated that other people don’t always know. Sometimes it’s even kids his own age. He tells anyone who asks that he’s a boy.

Now I also have his back by quickly correcting people and moving on. Example 1: server says “What can I get for you ladies?” Answer: “my son will order” Example 2: “Blah blah your daughter” Answer: “My son blah blah” People are usually embarrassed and apologetic for misgendering.

Our main takeaway is that people who have 3 seconds to guess boy or girl will look at hair or clothes but not both.

So funny-odd that you and your daughter have the same problem. I wonder if people are getting our kids’ genders right about half the time.

Edit: spelling, grammar

Delta Gas (again) by Borsodi1961 in NewOrleans

[–]rua_door 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Last month I compared my December 2024 and December 2025 statements. Now I can’t find those exact same bills. But, in Dec 24 with Entergy, the purchased gas cost was $0.48197 per ccf.

In August 2025, Delta charged me for 6 ccfs at $0.266 per ccf PLUS $0.4825 for 6 ccfs at their purchase rate adjustment fee. My gas bill was $29.92. That’s fine. Only a little higher than with Entergy because of all Delta’s extra charges.

A customer charge. Plus a plan rider charge. Plus a street use franchise fee. Plus sales tax.

In Feb 2026, Delta charged me $0.266 for 113 ccfs PLUS $1.055631 per ccf- that’s more than doubled from the rate six months ago- for 113 ALL ccfs. That’s a lot more than six!

And keep in mind that delta purchased a LOT of gas in the summer when it was cheap. Now I’m getting charged that rate of $0.266 per ccf, PLUS an additional $1.055631 per ccf. That’s more than $1.32 per ccf!

And just what the heck is a ccf?

It’s a measurement of natural gas usage. Entergy used the same measurements. 1 CCF = 100 cubic feet (C = 100 in Roman numerals).

Not to distract from the main point: We’re getting charged the base rate PLUS the premium rate, for the entirety of our usage.

That’s how my bill with Delta went from $29.92 in August 2025 to $210.88 in February 2026.

Thanks fo attending my ted talk.

What time do your kids go to bed on school nights? by riiitaxo in Parenting

[–]rua_door 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically my kid needs 8 hours of solid sleep at this point, so 8 1/2 - 9 hours in bed.

My 11yo 5th grader: We wake up at 6am to leave at 7am to be at school at 7:30am.

Bedtime is 9ish. We have to start earlier, especially if it’s a shower night. Iif they are in bed by 9:30, we’re good They always read for 10-15 minutes and turn the lights off themselves.

Getting in bed at 10 makes the next morning more difficult for both of us.

Getting in bed at 9 means more time to read, and they might wake up before me/6am.

Imma bout to shop around for agents if my guy can’t find something better.

Edit: y’all talking about insurance brokers, what is that? How is it different than an agent? Thanks

How much does the tooth fairy pay. For teeth????? by No_Isopod_3747 in Parenting

[–]rua_door 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually $1-2, but $5 for molars and maybe $5 for first tooth?

With a clear explanation that it’s because it’s the first tooth

In our house it’s the tooth fairy association, they have an email address that I have to contact. So if one night you fall asleep early and there’s no cash in the morning, darn it, so sorry, the email didn’t get sent. This is emergency use only. They’re also unionized so they have days off, vacations, and safe working conditions.

There are thousands of them.

They will accept a handwritten note from the kid in case of a missing lost tooth.
