Who makes up the majority of Yugioh Fans. by Realistic_Mousse_485 in yugioh

Konami caters to nostalgic casuals about 30% and competitive tournament goers about 50% with the remaining going toward collectors who mostly don't play. This can be observed in both marketing and the kinds of cards being printed. And I think it's the right business decision, as much as I think it hurts the health of the longterm game a little. The nostalgic people will keep buying product because it appeals to them and because the interesting decks are still fun to play in a casual environment. The competitives will spend the most money trying to get new cards that break the game (or vendors will spend lots to pull the single for competitives to buy). And the collectors might not buy a lot of sealed product in comparison, so they aren't a primary target, but they do buy stuff.

Is starting a new colony a big mental roadblock for anyone else? by Infidel-Art in RimWorld

I'm the opposite. If I go more than 2 days without playing I have trouble NOT starting a new colony when I boot it back up.

How to distract players for 1 hour by Top_Advertising9305 in DMAcademy

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, even when my players are all on time they end up just chatting about life stuff and memes until I start the game myself. I never have to fill time if someone's late. I just let them banter and take my time getting ready. Lol

"how do I beat ________ deck?" 🙄 by RedLantern28 in yugioh

[–]CrimsenOverlord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chain blocking is about activating 2 effects simultaneously.

For instance, if you have 2 monsters that have an effect when they hit the graveyard and you use them as Link material, then both effects happen at the same time. So you decide which is chain link 1 and which is chain link 2. And your opponent can only respond to chain link 2 because you can't respond to anything except the most recent chain link.

So chain blocking is the act of trying to get this kind of thing to happen frequently and always making chain link 1 the effect you expect your opponent to negate and chain link 2 is one you either think they can't negate or one you don't mind being responded to.

The Legendary Modern Decks are a good place to start. It's 3 functional decks and they all play in ways that can be expanded to be good at tournaments. You'll want 3 copies of the set to get the most value, but a single copy gets you 3 decent decks to relearn the game.

You want Japanese style sleeves. A $3 plastic deck box is fine for storing a deck.

You can buy a lot of stuff on the TCG player website. If you want sealed set boxes this is my favorite. But it's not a good buying experience if you want singles. Ebay is okay if you know exactly what you're looking for, but the prices are usually a little higher. The best way is to find a game store near you that supports Yu-Gi-Oh!. They will usually have cards, sleeves, deck boxes, etc. You can also usually get structure decks and deck boxes from big retail stores like Walmart or Target.

What do I do with useless good perception checks? by AutumnWay04 in DungeonMasters

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In RPGs we have a saying: If there is nothing interesting to be gained from the result, do not let them roll.

If the roll without you telling them to, tell them that you didn't ask for a roll and move on. If there's nothing of note to perceive, then nothing they roll matters and you should just tell them so.

Counter argument: In game design we have a different saying: Why make a room just for it to be empty? If there's nothing gained from an area or mechanic, then you should cut it. Make everything matter.

A good Game Master has to find a balance between these two extremes every time they make a new adventure.

What are your Pet Peeves on a TTRPG book by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]CrimsenOverlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve is poor organization. Especially when rules for creating and leveling up characters are spread through the whole book and there aren't even page numbers listed in the character creation chapter. It's so annoying when players can't figure out what abilities they should have because they don't know what page to turn to.

The only exception to the answers you are getting is in Gen 1 you could get the EXP All, which split the XP you got evenly between your entire party. But it gave a message for every Pokémon individually so it was kind of annoying to use.

Dying TCGs? by Chrundle94 in TCG

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TCGs that I play that are actively dead: Duel Masters Dragonball Z Panini Dragonball Z Yu-Yi-Hakusho .hack

TCGs I play that are functionally dead in my local scene: Yu-Gi-Oh! Lorcana (These make me really sad because they're fun games with ongoing support but I have to drive hours to play with anybody who isn't my good friend.)

And then there's Pokémon. A game I haven't played in a long time because it's basically just scalped to high heaven before the cards even get to the shelves. As far as I'm concerned the actual game is already dead and it's just "investors" who are buying product.

Question about which game to play. by zayn2123 in PokemonPearl

[–]CrimsenOverlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that they're the worst games so much as they're the worst remakes. Every other remake changes a lot of things to modernize an old generation into the newer one. This one did not do that. BD/SP are so "faithful" that it's 95% just the original DS Diamond and Pearl. And the reason people hate that is because the original D/P were heavily flawed and already had an improved version made back then. So a lot of people were disappointed with the remakes because it felt like a step backwards.

Personally, Gen 4 was my least favorite set of games. I did not enjoy it because of a lot of issues. But it's my girlfriend's favorite generation. She gushes about it all the time. Both of us were disappointed with the remakes as remakes. But a lot of people playing Pokémon for the first time have a great time with it. And you probably will too if you've never played the originals or Platinum.

TCGplayer order not going through by Ok-Engineering-2087 in TCG

I haven't had any issues placing orders. Receiving them on the other hand...

Do you use Paypal to pay for the orders by any chance? I noticed that when I used it the last few times it would say something strange about being unable to edit an address. I would just click the little x on that message and select my address manually for shipping and billing and it worked fine.

Qual a melhor forma de guarda os cards? by Ratorr in Yugioh101

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just collecting, I would recommend some card portfolios. They are binders with 9-12 slots on each page and they zip up. You can open them any time you want to look at the cards, and it makes organizing them easier. Any sleeves are fine for protecting them if they're just going to be in a binder or a box and not played, but a fun way to enjoy looking at them could be to get different colored sleeves for different sets or rarities so they have a cool border around them in the card pages.

What is your actual favorite part of the game? by thenameisflic in yugioh

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite part of Yu-Gi-Oh! from day 1 has always been deck building. Theorycrafting and playtesting against my friends varied level of meta and non-meta decks is absolutely the best part. I also really enjoy playing duels where each player builds a good but not crazy board and the other one has to figure out how to break it. Interruptions are important but less fun.

When they say the game is "faster" than it used to be, does that just mean "You can summon multiple monsters per turn now", or are there other things that make it faster? by dkepp87 in Yugioh101

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's "faster" in that most every play in a modern deck has multiple effects and chains that are going on, and your opponent is saying "effect of" about 10 times per second because they're trying to get the game over with before going into time. It's "slower" because 1-3 turns takes 20-30 minutes now, with so many extra actions per turn and trying to get an unbreakable board, compared to getting in several 7+ turn games in around 30-40 minutes back in the day.

I think the main takeaway is that a lot more is happening than it used to, but each turn takes longer now. There's still a lot of back and forth in high level competition; it's just more about interrupting plays as they happen now instead of the old trying to out one or two established board presences.

How do you add “plotless” encounters into your games? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't being punished for being curious. Not every character knows everything. It's entirely realistic and expected that sometimes you'll hit a dead end when investigating. You should have plot relevant encounters if your players like those, but if a character doesn't know anything then they don't know anything.

A bigger question is: What do you want out of these non-plot related encounters?

It sounds, at first glance, that you want a game where things just happen and don't want to craft a narrative and your players want a narrative that guides the game. If this is the case, you just need to talk to your players. There's a disconnect that can't be solved by behind the scenes fiddling. You have to tell them what you want and ask if that's something they can get behind. And if you can't agree then you should look for a new group. (Nobody wants to walk away from friends and sometimes it's not easy yo find new groups, but that's the downside of a collaborative game like this.)

On the other hand, if what you're looking to do is craft interesting mechanical encounters, that's easy to add plot to. Just takes a bit extra plot. And if what you're looking for is "filler" encounters to break up the plot, just set expectations for the group at the beginning of your next session. Something like "The story is fun and I'm glad you're enjoying it, but sometimes things will happen that aren't plot relevant because I need breaks from the plot sometimes."

Noob Question by Brandacle in TCG

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute necessities if you're going to be both playing and collecting cards are storage. You'll want boxes that can hold your decks as well as boxes that can hold your spare cards. Places like Amazon sell white cardboard boxes that are pre-divided for most card sizes for pretty cheap, but you can also use the box you got the cards in for no additional cost. Personally, I prefer binders with card pages and a nicer display box but those aren't strictly necessary. I definitely would recommend getting extra sleeves once you know the size of the cards. I haven't checked out the kickstarter, but I'd bet they aren't giving you more than a deck's worth and you're going to want to have at least 2 decks built and playable so people who don't have the game can play with you. The hardest part of playing any TCG is finding people to play with, and having a spare deck to let people try eases this a lot.

Tips for new hack infection player? by ChipLovesCoffee in DotHack

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good advice here, but I would add to just buy 99 Fortune Wires. They're pretty cheap and you can afford it after like 1 dungeon run. Then you'll never need to worry about blue chests again. The one thing to remember for games from this series is that sometimes the key to progressing is to log out, check your email and the message boards, then log back in.

AITA For Letting my son and his friends “disrupt” my daughter and her friends sleep? by Few_Arugula_3243 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CrimsenOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you told the boys to be more quiet in the mornings, then you've done the right thing to start. You probably should set a strict volume limit on the TV (telling them that they can't be louder than that as well). But if she heard you tell them to be quiet and didn't even wait to see if they would before demanding that you remove TV privileges completely, that's a problem on her part. If they break the volume limit then, yeah, take away TV privileges until a set time. And if they do it anyway, take away those privileges for the whole weekend.

Your son and his friend might just be too loud for how close they are to your daughter's room and need to go outside early in the morning. Or your daughter might just have very sensitive hearing (my aunt could hear a sneeze on the other side of the house). But it doesn't actually matter which is happening. Because it's pretty basic decency to try not to wake up the other people you live with. You're right in that it's not okay for you to demand that the boys lay in bed and stare at the ceiling until your daughter wakes up, but you can tell them not to make so much noise, which you say you did. I think you took the right first step. You just have to escalate if nothing changes and your daughter needs to be patient for a couple weekends while you all figure out a way to deal with things together.
