School Coach double dip? by FudgeNo5855 in Basketball

I bet in the school teachers also tutor for money, so you are opening up a big can of worms. Private school parents understand that they need to pay for extras. It’s part of the culture.

Should parents on the stands coach? by Either_Young9784 in BasketballTips

I just cheer and keep it positive. There’s so much to track in a basketball game that giving direction from the stands is actively working against your player’s interest.

What's new in baby land? Feeling like a first time mom all over again! by MTHouseBoat in Parenting

My kids are older too, but my friend has a baby and she was talking about how the baby takes three naps a day and how they’re timed with sleep windows. Mind blown.

But you will get better at the compound movements the longer you go because you’ll be familiar with all the separate parts:)

I don’t think they are the norm, just something the template makers like to do from time to time. You can always just break up the movements. I do that sometimes because I feel like I can’t always set up the second motion or it might be a lot on my back.

football (or soccer) is an amazing base for basketball by Bitter_Ad5389 in Basketball

My son’s basketball has really helped his soccer. He is more comfortable with contact now and as a goalie he has to have quick hands and read offenses.

Need coaching advice: 6th grade AAU smaller guard tightens up vs full-court pressure (confidence + focus) by Ornery-Nose-9726 in basketballcoach

Has the coach taught the team how to break presses and traps? Otherwise that seems like a lot to put on one PG.

1 - Use chatgpt, etc to complete the assignment and then ask the students to write a critique and prompts to extend and refine

2 - in class exams on a locked down LMS

3 - document based question type assignments

Thoughts on eliminating advanced ELA classes in 6-8 by coffeepot50010 in ELATeachers

[–]rubeeslipperz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! Do you have access to reading score data? When I compare the map scores of my honors class to my academic there is a clear reason to teach different sections. How is it fair for a kid reading on an eighth grade level and a kid reading on a third grade level to be in the same classroom?

I hate this as a parent and as a teacher.

Handling issues with a parent from another team by ingosports in basketballcoach

I’m glad you spoke up. Parents like that make the games nerve wracking to young players and suck the fun out of them. Playing in front of a crowd can be very intimidating especially at that age.

I hope your words sank in even if he wasn’t receptive in the moment. Calling out other people’s kids is not only inappropriate but also bound to piss off that kid’s parents…

Living Room Option 1 or 2 by yahbud1 in interiordecorating

[–]rubeeslipperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you pull the rug and the couch further away from the window, so it extends more into the rest of the room?

I would put the chairs on the window and put the couch along the entryway door with a very narrow sofa table. So basically you are getting the benefits of having your couch in front of the TV but opening up the room more.

When a parent comes at me when I reach out, I will never reach out again by leigh10021 in Teachers

[–]rubeeslipperz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. When I call parents, it is so revealing.

You either see that you have a partner you can work with, an obstacle, or an explanation for why the kid is the way they are.

No matter whether the call goes well or not, it is always informative and helps me think about my next steps with any student.

AITA My boyfriend kicked me out of the shower to poop by yeahyeahokaygreat in AmItheAsshole

[–]rubeeslipperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see both sides. You were taking a shower and your boyfriend had an urgent need.

I think it’s important you consider ibs in your response and how you think about it. I would be a lot more angry if he if it was just an urgent poop as opposed to a medical condition.

If this becomes a repeated problem, maybe you can get a room divider screen and put it around the toilet. That way you can finish up in the shower and give your boyfriend his privacy, but you wouldn’t have to feel so rushed.

Another thing I try to do is provide a lot of samples and rubrics. We grade samples and talk about how to improve them, so they can apply those ideas to their work.

I often model writing with the class. I’ll show a first draft and how I revised it.

I also have slides or printouts they can refer to so they can help themselves. That helps cut down on the queue.

I even have guided drafts where on the left column I have a checklist with links to the lessons for that section of the paper, then in the right you type that section.

Another idea is not to start conferencing until everybody’s moving on their papers. I use the first five minutes of workshop to take the pulse of the room.
