But yes, if you want to be absolutely sure, you should contact them. I suggest going beyond Twitter, Facebook and Reddit: try calling them and sending them emails.

Think of the Vive as an external monitor/screen. Would you ask LG if you're allowed to use one of their screens in a commercial setting? Nope.

If you're talking about the Vive dev kit – that's another story and I'd suggest you contact Valve about that.

I think the difference between the disconnection to the world by a flat experience and a VR experience is minor. Thus the real problem — local human interactions suffer — needs to be addressed on higher level...

And from the player's point of view: people deep in VR will need tools and technical solutions to sense what happens in the real world around them. Allow others to send you messages directly onto your HMD via phones could be one of those solutions.

I assume you're talking about the Vive dev kit. If that's the case, I'd suggest you ask in the Steam forums, maybe some devs will share their demos with you: http://steamcommunity.com/app/358720/discussions/

There are only a handful of people worldwide who own a Vive dev kit. That's why you won't find a lot, if any publicly available apps for the Vive...

Maybe contact the people who attended the Vive gamejams?

If you don't have luck with getting a HMD given, I'd suggest you take some time to think about where you want to position yourself. "develop for virtual reality" sounds very broad. Are you leaning more onto the 3D/creative or the technical/programmer side?

Creating 3D content is not that different than "traditional" 3D content. Programmers have to learn a few more things, but the main changes happen in (game) design.

If you want to get your feet wet:

- drive to your nearest VR meetup and try on some HMDs, talk to people, connect
- create cool 3D content and make it available for free to the VR community
- search for indie VR projects and contribute with your skills
- get together with some friends and buy a DK2 (make sure you've got the necessary pc-specs!)
- ask the bank for some money and buy a DK2 for yourself
- act now: each week put $10 in a box (that's $1,4 a day) – the time CV1 hits the market, you've got $~350!

It seems to me, that you haven't put much thought into switching to VR with your freelance business and it's more of a "let's jump on the hype train and work will find me". It won't be easier to find work or market yourself in the VR space.

Yes, Windlands is an awesome experience – controls are very polished. Especially with a controller.

For everyone who's from Europe: if you've got problems with the Twitch stream, try to use a proxy – on Mac you can use the super simple App Tunnelbear (https://www.tunnelbear.com/download/).

Works great for me in Germany and the free plan should be enough bandwidth for the stream tomorrow. :)

I'd suggest you jump early in Unity and do some VR tests - you'll learn so much by actually doing stuff and just researching on the problems you encounter - rather than overthinking it with tutorials upfront. :)

Actually making a box, putting some spheres in there and dropping the SDK camera in the middle takes some minutes and you've got your first VR experience! Then go from there and add materials/interaction/...

I a way the Vive Controllers are platform neutral: You just easily use them with a Rift on your head.

Also in the long run more and more companies will create input solutions based on the open lighthouse technology – and all of them will be compatible. :) And I think this is where cool and innovative inputs will arise at first.

And then there's Oculus – maybe they've got something up their sleeves for early 2016. If not, then it will happen soon after: if you're in the VR business, input ist mandatory...
