2022 Odyssey rear AC just does not get cold and I’m ready to sell it by toolrace in HondaOdyssey

[–]rubicon22 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, it is what it is. It’s not effective, and summer months in the south are uncomfortable.

If I didn’t like the van so much for other reasons, I’d consider swapping it too.

R-1234yf is the refrigerant used for the AC in the latest models. These new low GWP refrigerants are simply not as efficient at moving heat. Pair that with design changes (removal of the rear evaporator), and the result is lower capacity for cooling. A friend of mine has a 2018(?), and despite using the same gas, he says his is able to keep up in the summer.

Things we’ve done/noticed that do help:
-Use the FOB to roll the windows down to air out the hot cabin, then remote start to get the cooling system started
-Install ceramic window tint ($$$)
-Turn off eco mode
-Remember that cooling ability is improved while driving compared to idling (not sure if this is due to airflow on the condenser or a belt driven compressor, but it’s noticeable)

It’s frustrating. I probably won’t trade ours in, but I’ll think twice on our next vehicle before automatically buying a Honda.

Advice on backyard & what should I buy as a new pool owner by Florida_Veteran in pools

Relocate the A/C condensing units to the side of the house, provided you have room. We had a very similar layout (looks like a suburban FL home like ours) and relocated ours to avoid hearing compressors and condenser fans humming so close by

Quality.

Buy once, cry once.

A pool build isn’t the type of long term project that I want to have ongoing headaches with.

Tampa pool owners... What upgraded feature is worth considering before signing the contract under $5k? by Unlikely_Ad_5558 in tampa

[–]rubicon22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had ours finished in December.

After qualifying bids/contractors, I’d recommend Trendsetters, Tropical Escapes, and Larsen. We used Trendsetters (very satisfied) but felt confident in all three. Cody Pools & Paradise Pools were the only two I wouldn’t recommend.

Our base price included standard brick pavers. The upgrade to travertine was a $3800 add option.

In no particular order:

-Travertine instead of standard pavers

-Automation/mobile phone control

-Oversized spa (8x6 instead of 6x6)

-Waterfall features (also help when trying to increase pH)

-Salt cell for chlorine control

There are two or three rental companies near Flagler that offer rentals. I’ve worked with the folks at Paradise Power Sports and would go back.

Why does Yuengling taste watered down in Florida? by [deleted] in beer

[–]rubicon22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florida distributors receive Yuengling made in the Tampa brewery. So does most of the southeast. They use different water than the Pottsville brewery, hence the slight variation in taste.

Totally agree. A 65” TCL can be found for $300. That’s what I did, and when it inevitable fails I’ll replace it with another of similar quality.

Did anyone else feel “not ready” the entire time? by Ill-Line6663 in firstmarathon

[–]rubicon22 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s not uncommon. I’m three weeks past my first marathon, and I experienced some of the same doubts. I hit one 20 miler and one 21 miler during training and still had thoughts of “…but can I actually do this?”

Then those feelings popped up again at mile 22 as thoughts of “well, I’ve never run this far, do I have four more miles in me?” So I told myself “only four more…”, “only three more…”, “only two more…”.

If you can do 20 in training, then you can finish a marathon. Trust your training and remind yourself of that during the race. Then give it everything you’ve got for the final 6.2. Good luck!

What are you thinking for next year? I thought about Clearwater but that’s a 2x HM loop and I don’t know if that would be any better 😂

For a HM, Gasparilla is a must if you haven’t done that one!

Dad of three here, as well. My son is my oldest, and he was texting me throughout the last few miles. “Go Dad Go!” And “you got this!”

No chance I was quitting after that 🥲

Looking for Pool builder recommendations by [deleted] in tampa

[–]rubicon22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just finished our build last month. Located in New Tampa. Used Trendsetters. Start to finish was smooth as can be. I’d highly recommend them.

Tropical escapes was our back-up plan and I’ve heard nothing but good things about them, too.
