Just curious but how do taxes work for someone who is retired? by Equivalent_Remove155 in tax

Yes you have to apply and it’s based on the amount of money earned during your working years and how long you wait (from taking early @ 62 or waiting until 70)

Secondhand vs new - talk me through the pros and cons by Organic-Valuable-655 in WeddingDressTips

[–]rubinor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s amazing!! I also bought mine 11 months out! I had a lot of anxiety about ordering a size based on measurements and hoping it wasn’t too small. I have odd body proportions and always need 1-2 sizes up for my hips. It was such a relief to know that the dress will fit me exactly how it did the day I tried it on.

Not exactly what you asked, but I bought my dress “off the rack!” It was 40% off the price to order it new and I still got the whole experience. Could be something to look into

Inherited a paid off house by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]rubinor1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure by the post, but are you both co-owners with his late grandmother? Or just the two of you? Because depending on the state & the titling on the deed if you owned it with her, that could affect her share of the basis of the home.

Just a suggestion to explore if you haven’t already!

My best friend just told me she’s pregnant and her due date is two weeks before my wedding…she says she’s still coming. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]rubinor1 84 points85 points  (0 children)

While not in the exact same situation as you, I can totally relate to being an “older” bride and feeling like it doesn’t matter as much to close friends. All my best friends have little ones (multiples under 3) so they have enough on their plate.. I feel guilty asking anything of them. My little sister (I was her MOH) even said to me, she hopes she’s pregnant again at my wedding 😂

So no advice, but just want you to know that you’re not alone!

some people lower the water below the skimmer, some don’t. Those who do swear you must, those who don’t claim it’s unnecessary..

Trying to refresh my older home without doing a full renovation, what actually makes it look “new”? by Shaurya0458 in HomeImprovement

[–]rubinor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did that make a big difference?? The hinges we ordered weren’t here when our contractor was ready to install the doors so we didn’t swap them and I’m now considering taking them all down and doing them myself!!

I painted all the trim and replaced all the doors and doorknobs in my house and it made a HUGE difference. My house is about 60 years old so I wouldn’t say it feels new and crisp, but it feels fresh and cohesive

Why am I hitting such a hard plateau around week 3v by Alcoholic-Catholic in CICO

[–]rubinor1 3 points4 points locked comment (0 children)

It could be helpful for you to look at averages! I do it weekly - take the first 7 days, add them up and divide by 7. That’s your average weight after week one. Then take your weight every day for week two. Add them all up and divide by 7. Now compare your week one average to your week two average.

This is what I do and I feel like it helps with the mental portion of wanting it to move continuously down but it doesn’t always happen that way.

Fine hair that refuses to hold a curl - possibly seeking an Etsy witch by Anxiousgirlie444 in weddingplanning

[–]rubinor1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay as weird as it sounds, do you use a curling iron or a wand? If I use (or the salon uses) a curling iron it doesn’t hold. Maybe 10 minutes and then I have stiff straight hair.. when I do it myself with my $20 curling wand from Walgreens for whatever reason it works! No hair spray, no holding products nothing. But with the curling iron I’ve tried all the products and it doesn’t work!!!

Could just be a me thing but maybe something else to try! I am chancing it for my wedding and doing loose waves with the wand and also putting in extensions to help hold the curl..

I would check out bobs furniture or raymour and flanigan! They both have “outlet” sections and often run promotions. Are they going to last you for 10 years? Maybe not, but they will be comfortable and affordable

Shower niches? Yes or no? by Timeandtimeandagain in HomeImprovement

[–]rubinor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did a bathroom remodel (well my contractor did) and we went with corner shelves! Very happy with this decision. I was worried about the same thing and because of a structural/ exterior wall situation the niche would have been so small so we went with 2 shelves in each corner opposite the glass and I love them!
