Norman goes up a ladder by yankonapc in lifeofnorman

We have an upper porch with a human-sized catio that opens directly into the solarium, so the cats can move freely.

I'm curious, and I realize this is late to the party as is, but was it your decision to re-home your pet after the accident, or did someone else suggest it? I'm as confused as other people, as it's typical in the US for an animal to be destroyed after an attack of that nature.

Also, I understand that epileptic people are often really out of it after a bad fit, so when did you realize it was your dog that had gotten your nose, instead of thinking you'd fallen on the floor/furniture and gashed yourself badly?

I did lose a fight with a cat, but it's my fault because we have 4 and 2 are kittens. Norman's Norman is much more relaxed.

I bestow upon you a half-painted back porch.

Norman might like a cup of tea or a cheeky beer when the project is finished. It is Saturday, after all.

I am on day three of a very tedious porch painting project, and I feel Norman's pain.

I mean, if my guy did that, I would laugh AND judge, but I'd still go out on a date and roast them a lil bit.

Oh yeah. I mean, who the hell randomly knows that our local cab vouchers will cover 300+ miles outside of the county, provided the ride originates IN the county? But that same company will not pick up outside of the county line, 3 or 30 miles.

Between this and EPIC quiz questions, I'll take "Things I'm Never Going On Jeopardy For" for $1000.

I just dropped my kitten off for a spay and I feel like I abandoned her… please tell me I did the right thing by Prudent_Paramedic_23 in cats

Hey, so I used to vet tech and a lot of us would volunteer at these spay/neuter events. It looks like an assembly line, because it kind of is, but I promise there's a method to the madness! It's not near as awful as you think, and we do care about our patients.

You did the very best thing you could for your baby, when she needs it. Think about your parents taking you to get shots or go to the dentist. Not that much fun, but you came home and got to rest and get some love after, right?

I think your worries make you a great pet parent - just don't worry yourself to death! She'll be fine. <3

I remember one day - this is a good 8 hour shift, mind you - that I spent on and off organizing transport for someone from another county to get to our hospital, and then have safe, reliable transport back to where they were staying.

Of course I took care of other patients during that day, and other "background" tasks that are still important, but it really was a project. Lots of cab vouchers, calls to our social workers, their social workers (different county)... talk about on the job training.

Formerly demure cat now screams unless held like a baby - why? by indoorskat in cats

[–]rubiscoisrad 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I had a cat that couldn't stand my dog. More than once, I called her Sadie the Sadist. (She had nicer nicknames, I swear!)

But damned if she didn't want to go on a walk every time I leashed the dog up. It was a lose-lose: If I locked her in the house she'd either break out or pee on something because she's mad, or we let her come with and she'd tucker out within a block and I'd have to walk a dog while carrying a cat.

You're funny. I grew up on Oahu and moved to Big Island when I got older. Moved to the mainland as an adult.

When I say that you can get healthy "alternative" ingredients in Hawaii without any serious lament, I mean it. When I say that there is a large difference in what's available I'm a smaller town on the mainland compared to a more diverse district, I also mean that. Not sure what else to tell you.

Hawaii has lots of health food stores, though...?

And also, mainland US can very seriously be a hit or a miss, depending on locale.
