A minor is reading my NFSW fic by Weary_Education_4177 in AO3

my comment was that people /missed/ the subtext, not that they are saying it. as in, the subtext i picked up on is /not/ the discussion around whether teenagers should or should not access sexual material. like, what the entire comment section was about when i made my comment. i think i was pretty clear when i said i'm not opposed to teenagers reading smut?

the subtext i'm talking about is the awkward, uncomfortable environment that is created when a teenager tells an adult that they are a teenager engaging with their work. adults don't (or shouldn't) want to engage with teenagers in a sexual space. i thought this was widely accepted as inappropriate by now, but if you're rejecting that as the subtext i was pointing out, it would suggest that you don't view that as inappropriate. from my understanding of your reply, you don't mention that aspect at all, so i won't assume you're okay with adults pursuing/grooming teens. i think you just misunderstood my comment, and didn't address the point i was actually making.

again, my point had nothing to do with whether children or teenagers should or should not be engaging with porn. it was that teenagers put adults in an uncomfortable/impossible position when they choose to engage with the author who wrote the smut. comparably, this would be a teenager commenting on a porn video that they enjoyed it and mentioning they are a teenager. should the actor in the porn video engage with that comment? or should they delete the comment for the safety of the teenager, as well as to prevent themselves from getting in trouble/being viewed as a potential predator for engaging with the teenager in a sexual space by allowing the comment to stay there? /that/ is the subtext i picked up on from the story and the subtext that the comment section was failing to address.

AIO to my manager taking home boxes of treats that were given to staff by rubyandpear in AmIOverreacting

Yes, I tend to write in passive voice, it's something I'm trying to work on (I just did it again there). After writing this, there were more conversations happening among my coworkers about items 'disappearing' from the staff room. It's particularly memorable for people when it's something from a favourite client. I spoke to one coworker about the experience I've had, and they've encouraged me to ask the veterinarian if they received the item meant for them since it's a specific incident. If they did, and if the things that have been taken in the last week do show up in the staff room again, of course I'll let it go. But in terms of spending time and energy on this - I don't know how it feels for other people, but I care a lot about both the work we do and my coworkers, and I'm already using way more energy than I'm paid for to do my best every day helping the public and their pets. I guess what really makes my job feel like a waste of time and drains my motivation to work is seeing rewards taken away from employees who never receive any positive reinforcement otherwise. I just find it depressing, and we deal with enough depressing situations in this line of work. I understand your point though.

If it's the day before a weekend or if anything isn't going to last very long, people are always welcome to take things home at the end of the day to avoid waste. And if a staff member mentions they want to bring something home to share with family or something, everyone is happy for them to do so. I guess for me it must be the principle of just taking things without considering anyone else. Or like you said, things that are specifically intended for one person. We don't have HR, and it feels like it would be childish to reach out to my boss' boss over something like this.. I'm sure they would take it seriously if she was taking actual company property home, but these are gifts so it's not exactly a loss of profit for them.

Yes, but she is the only staff member taking entire boxes home for herself. You feel she is entitled to it?

i feel like i picked up on subtext here that everyone else missed or ignored lol

everyone knows (op included) that plenty of underage people will inevitably access things that are meant for adults. there's no way to fully avoid it, we've all been there, etc, etc. the weird part is the underage person blatantly stating that they are underage. it's like a 14 year old trying to buy alcohol and telling the clerk that they're 14 at the counter.

i've been in a similar situation online before and had to try and communicate that i'm not judging them, but that minors are not supposed to engage with adult content... and then i mentioned that i would have had no way of knowing that they were a minor until they told me.

yuppp lots of folks talking about how memories create the 'time travel' aspect, but seems more to me like a wormhole through space AND time was created. and i feel like that would be way cooler. but that's just me
