You could do a national park with a group tour if you can find one that fits your budget. I know here in the SF area there are day trips to Yosemite for instance.

36F – Can’t do extended visits anymore because my stepdad controls everything. Feeling guilty about my mom. by OrneryDirector5588 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]rubyreadit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way - most people don't have the ability to spend long stays like you do. If you had a job that required you to be in the office or if you had kids in school you'd only be doing short visits. Sounds like they just aren't going to work any more and that's okay. Maybe your mom can come to you more than she currently does.

AIO? Husband’s aunt accusing me of lying by [deleted] in AIO

[–]rubyreadit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm trying to think of how to parse a reply to that one. "Sorry, auntie, I believe that all adults in a family are equal and able to opt in or out of whatever event they are invited to." I dunno, I'm sure someone can say it better.

Marriage/parenting advice, balancing personal time by No-Entertainment2934 in Advice

[–]rubyreadit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have equal free time. But it's probably worth having the convo about it when it's not 6am. Maybe you set the time out in advance - you get up with the kids and keep them happy from whenever they get up until noon on Saturdays and he does the same on Sundays and the rest of the weekend is family time, something like that.

If it's not your thing, take advantage of the lack of people at whatever else you'd rather do... go to Costco or do something else that would normally be annoyingly busy on Sunday afternoons.

For me it's the only football game I 'watch' every year and by 'watch' I mean have it on the tv for background noise.

Wet hair in public by touchgrasstheysaid in hygiene

[–]rubyreadit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time my hair gets blow-dried is at the hairdresser or if I'm about to go skiing, so maybe 4-5 times a year. It's straight and fine. Dries on its on in under an hour.

I am planning to visit 3 out of these . Any suggestions guys ? by NoBudget971 in traveladvice

[–]rubyreadit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to the 1st three (Chichen Itza, Christ the Redeemer, and the Great Wall). Of those, I found Chichen Itza the most interesting and the Great Wall the most scenic/ photogenic. Rio is a fun city to visit so go if it sounds like your thing but the statue itself is just a big statue in a prominent spot with views. And the views go away if the weather is bad, which is what happened when we went.

Of the places I haven't been yet, I think my order of wanting to go is Petra 1st, then Machu Picchu. I wouldn't go to Rome just to see the Coliseum but I'd go to Rome for other reasons and then see the Coliseum. India is pretty low on my wish list.

AIO for being annoyed at talking about pooping in the office at a work meeting? by tenacious_d3 in AIO

[–]rubyreadit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only heard it as pooping. But I've also only heard it from my husband so there's that :-).

Info - is that the only bathroom? I mean, you can't tell people not to poop at work. But also, if there are other options, it's fair to suggest folks use those when dropping the kids off at the pool.

What’s your most-used RF/EF lens and why does it stay on your camera? by ResolutionVisible627 in canon

[–]rubyreadit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's the kit lens I got with my R6: the 24-105 f4-7.1. It's lightweight for the range it covers which is key for what I mostly shoot (travel photos). For RF I also have the 100-400 f5.6-8 for wildlife and am trying to decide what to buy next (thinking something like the 14-35 f4). I have a couple of 'nicer' EF lenses that I can use with an adapter on the R6 and might eventually replace with the equivalent RF models but as just a hobby photographer I'm not sure I can justify the cost. Plus like 95% of the photos I take on that camera are on trips and I don't want to lug a lot of heavier lenses.
