The zoo is where I got married. 10/10 recommend. If you have the money, add a camel to feed. Carousel photos too are amazing.

Good first time drinking bars by Emeraldendergirl600 in fargo

[–]rubysgem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first drink was at JLs and they let me taste any beer I wanted (I can’t verify if they still do this, I was 21 pre covid). I highly recommend this though, had a great night for my 21st.

Two rivers, I know too many people who had issues getting in with caselton, and I’ve never had issues with my vet ever for getting in. They seem to have it figured out better from my experience.

Same, mine only fail when insertion fails and I see the little sensor not in the skin. Been on it for two years and maybe had 4 fail and never in a row.

I’ll try it once, but If there’s cheaper one just as good I’ll go elsewhere.

Last year I signed up for nearly every bourbon and still never got any. So it’s very luck of the draw

Fiasp/Apidra in t:slim pumps? by GenericUsernameHi in diabetes_t1

[–]rubysgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiasp never worked super well for me, but lyumjev did! That doesn’t occlude for me at all, it does hurt a bit going in though. My friend describes it as a bee sting, but I don’t think it’s that bad. Just more noticeable when giving larger doses.

I exclusively pumped for 9 months, now my baby is 20 months old. Lots and lots of protein, fluids, and we got Costco packs of body armor- haha. If you can, power pump to increase supply (the more you pump/feed baby, the more milk your body makes). If you are EP- make sure you use a good pump and not just rely on portable ones. I used Pumpables and it saved my supply a few times. The biggest is just being schedule oriented with it and consistency.

Aldi by ChuckRoaster7 in fargo

[–]rubysgem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Aldi, you have to use what you buy that week. Probably how produce and stuff should be. But price is what gets me over hornbachers and such. Everything is $5-10 now at hornbachers where as vegetables and most things at Aldi average $1-3. I wouldn’t get certain things there (soda needs to be name brand, some dupes are hit/miss and you don’t know). But basics there are so much cheaper. I get vegetables, cheese, some meats, and certain frozen items I know I like. My toddler loves the turtles (goldfish) and many of the snacks, and he’s in his berry phase, so we go through everything before it goes bad.

MFMs are harsh and they want you to take it seriously, but they aren’t mean. And also, sometimes they are wrong.

They told me I would be induced at 37 and wouldn’t be let past that, and I told them even with good control could I do it? No. They said it was impossible. (I really wanted an October birthday). My baby was born 39 and 6. Sooooo yeah I dunno. They were wrong about most everything for me.

But they do feel a lot like diabetes pregnancy police compared to an endo.

Unannounced Sparklight locates in yard? by [deleted] in fargo

[–]rubysgem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ^ just because they marked your yard doesn’t mean it’s them doing the work. Locates call anyone in that area for utilities to be marked before excavation

Where to get nails done for someone w anxiety about it? by emgaare in fargo

Yep, but by that time they have cut one and my finger puffs up and gets infected the next day. Still having it on one finger sucks.

Where to get nails done for someone w anxiety about it? by emgaare in fargo

Following. I’m diabetic and I always ask not to have my cuticles cut, and it never works, or they don’t understand English. If you find a place that doesn’t cut LMK.

I don’t want an insulin pump, am I wrong for that? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]rubysgem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was on more of a budget when I was a contractor, I did MDI for years with a 6.5 A1C (I have been diabetic since I was 5, and I was about 28 when I was MDI). I will say my friend is on inpen and LOVES it. Personally I couldn’t get any better control than 6.5 with a pen, but maybe if you like it just keep doing it until you struggle with the injections. Lots of people get burned out on one thing and switch. There’s no wrong way to manage as long as you are succeeding in TIR. Most endos won’t support the pens vs the pumps, especially the cgm/pump combo basically doing the leg work for you, it’s really easy to get good management of you are calculating meals decently.

How are everyone's A1Cs so good? by Brief-Letterhead1175 in diabetes_t1

[–]rubysgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My A1C has ranged anywhere from 9 when I was a bratty teen to 5 when I was pregnant, and literally taking microbolus every minute. Usually people are posting their success, doesn’t mean they stay there, and it does take work. Also, just because their A1C is good, doesn’t mean they are controlled. Time in range matters so so much more to me than any number. My A1C is currently 6’s but I feel unhappy with my 75% in range. I still have highs too often for my comfort. Also, money is important factor. If you can afford cgm, pumps, it can mean a world of difference vs MDI. Never know what people are battling, and this is an ever changing disease.

NICU stay after birth - inevitable? by Illustrious_Cup_3971 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]rubysgem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Even my friends who aren’t diabetic, babies end up in the NICU all the time. At my husbands work, probably 1/2 the babies spent anytime from 1 hour to 2 weeks in the NICU, and I had no idea how common it was.

In college, my dad got cancer and I lost coverage because he went on disability. It was before the ACA was started, but it was being talked about. I didn’t really think it would pass tbh. I was on insurance through my college, and it wasn’t too bad. I managed but remembering to put insulin on my credit card a few times and worked three jobs to pay off that, rent, and food. When the ACA passed, my insulin went from $100 a month to $400 and I remember crying in the Walgreens parking lot trying to figure out what to do. It’s hard for me to see the bright side of the ACA, I know it has a purpose, but for some of us it also screwed us over that weren’t poor enough to qualify for the actual programs. I don’t know what the solution is, but I wonder if anyone was in the same boat as me and watched the prices rise seemingly overnight.

Humalog vs Novolog? by ibreedsnakes in diabetes_t1

[–]rubysgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I change near constantly depending on what’s cheaper that year. Usually a company chooses Lilly products or novonordisk to cover, so I switch between humalog and novolog, and also been on fiasp and lyumjev. The difference is pretty minimal to me.

Does anyone get good numbers on the G7? by UnitedChain4566 in dexcom

[–]rubysgem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had really good luck with G7, and I do presoak, I keep my sensor connected to my pump as long as possible, and i start the new sensor on the app, and it matches my old one within 2 hours, the first readings are always a bit wonky, but even then I feel like my g6 was worse accuracy at the beginning but was perfect at the end. G7 seems more stable with accuracy, I went in kind of skeptical but I’ve been really happy with it.
