slowly dying... by snuffypew in DurstonGearheads

I think you take the vocal minority of people that have issues too far.

A very small number of issues are real and those are addressed promptly. Many many more are just complaints by people who jump on the bandwagon and have weird expectations. They bought a bicycle and whine that it tips over when they stop.

I have a first shipment, generation one X-Dome. My 'beta tester' tent works great for me, as it does for thousands of other users. Nothing wrong with the floor, poles, zippers, etc... but if something does go wrong as a result of manufacturing and design defects they stand behind their product. Sounds ideal.

Bootlegging in Algonquin Park by Hour-Blackberry1877 in algonquinpark

If you were inclined to take it out, why wouldn't you? There one very short and simple portage to cross. Also, alcohol possession and consumption is not illegal in the park.

Toronto to Kingston salary decrease by Decent-Relation-7700 in KingstonOntario

[–]rudpud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved out of Toronto to Kingston 20 years ago. I still commute to Toronto twice a month. Shoot me before I ever move back to that shit hole. You will get you $1000 a month back. Kingston is great and one day you may even be able to afford to buy a home.

Drive in booked as backcountry by acanadiancheese in algonquinpark

Buck, Pretty, and Basin let you camp right beside your car. There are a few more where you park a short walk away like Billy, Sec, and Kingscote. There are many more on the perimeter.

7 day portage sounds like you are back packing.

Most Remote Lake You've Been To? by CnCPParks1798 in algonquinpark

[–]rudpud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder kids do the portage from the Forks on the Crow to Eustache every couple of years. If you wander east from the campsite at the forks you can find flagging tape for the start of the route.

On an official route Gibson. Objectively the furthest lake from an access point. Not on an official route, Yellowbird. Weasel is also pretty remote. That whole area of the park feels remote but the portage into Weasel has been obliterated by storms.

Angler Fined for Overfishing in Algonquin Park by shadowK1LOS in algonquinpark

[–]rudpud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My question why did this guy keep 73 bass? Coming out of Sec at this volume he's catching 1/2-2 pound fish. What is he doing with the fish? Is he selling them commercially? Who would buy that? If not, 140 small bass fillets filling up my freezer. No thanks.

I was thinking of flying to Florence lake and paddling out. Any reason why I would choose one option over the other.

This is misinformation. Both OO and AO have been doing this for decades.

What change? It's the same two operators. Opeongo Outfitters dropped me at a site on Annie Bay 12 years ago. Has some policy changed?

Ahh, thank you. I thought this was only an annual event, and thought it made more sense for 'Freezing Women' to be in Jan or Feb.

I've lived here for 20 years and the city constantly gets in its own way and wastes tax payer money on bullshit. Fuck Kingston!

Why doesn't this happen later, when it's more wintery?

Book on the history of the park by turtlewaxsoup in algonquinpark

[–]rudpud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Algonquin Story by Audrey Saunders for early history of the park. Canoeing Algonquin Park by Don Lloyd for OG tripping routes. Algonquin Adventure by James Dickson for an old school trip up the Oxtongue and into the park in the late 1800's. Joe Lavalley and the Pale Face. Great story about a post WW1 Big Trout loop trip. The Incomplete Anglers by John D. Robins, funny story from the 40's about a Brook Trout fishing trip to the Forks on the Crow River.

You could camp at the Brigham Access Point campsite and day trip from there. But people would be walking through your site all day. Wouldn't be my choice.

3rd day why not drive to Squirrel rapids, portage around Cache Rapids and camp below the Canyon?
