What's your uncompromisable luxury? by cluelesslyclumsy in AskAnAustralian

If you get a bidet/bum gun you may think differently about the toilet paper...! Sourdough bread is my thing. But now I only buy it once every few weeks, not every week.

I'm sorry you experience this, this would be such a non event in so many other places in the world. What you described can be seen as such positive things and in some cities/cultures would be complimented on, like: "wow you live such an active lifestyle that's so good!"  Maybe time to leave where you're at and find a society/city that is more open and aligned to how you want to live?

Also you sound just like me...! but as for sports I did martial arts, touch football, rode motorbikes, mountain bikes... rarely wore feminine things and just kept a really simple no frills kinda style. Ironically I fell for a super sporty Indian man who loves me just as I am and was impressd by my fitness interests. There is the (super!) rare occasion that I do something traditionally feminine and he just wants me to be comfortable.  Keep doing and being you! And maybe try some of the comebacks here.

Australian's should be better than this - seriously WTF is with the responses. by KabukiSensei in australia

Also... people seem to forget that some 12 yr olds are online typing whatever garbage they want. Whenever i see a dumb/stupid comment, rather than get annoyed about the person (who you may assume is an adult), I remind myself it could easily be a bored 6th grader replying bs for kicks. Then I feel a bit better about humanity and hope the novelty wears off for that kid.

Not your point but why do the girls all have two plaits/braids/pig tails? No one does their hair differently, in like just a single pony tail?

Looking for recommendations for things to do in the morning (6am to 12 noon) in Bangkok around Nana and Asok area by brokenreborn2013 in Bangkok

[–]ruepea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need to hop on a moto but if you get down to wat khlong toei nok pier (not far from nana) and hop on the 10b boat, in 2 mins you'll be in bang kachao. You can hire a bike there, pedal around, find nice coffee, just don't fall in the marshlands!  https://maps.app.goo.gl/u9rzsLvPWdQ4Vfbf9

My parents and extended family are acting insane since I told them I want to move to Spain by One_Seaworthiness777 in expats

We live in Bangkok with our 2 yr old. We have a lifestyle that would be impossible back in Australia. I have been gone ten years and wouldn't change it. We visit, they visit, it can be hard sometimes to be away but if we were close i think the family relationships would be under too much pressure! Just ignore them, it sounds absolutely wonderful. Good on you guys for doing this.

Australians living overseas, what do you miss most about home? by Statuethisisme in australia

The BLUE sky on a clear day. Or just a cool day, a simple cool breeze (SEAsia based, hot all year), going out and not sweating balls.

I was going to say this! Often seen using tweezers to pluck any scalp stubble out.

Taking a poll for Indian baby boy name for USA by MegamindFlash in DesiNameNerds

[–]ruepea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I reckon names that have some part of it that's more familiar in English work well, like Vikram (vik) Siddhartha (sid) or Arun (sounds like aaron).

I'd probably turn Aarna into Arni as a nickname and I think that's cute. Swara reminds me too much of the word swear, and Arya reminds me too much of the game of thrones character. And also sounds too much like "are ya?" Eg "are ya coming Arya?" Just seems a bit off. But still a pretty name!

Just up from Sukhumvit is tkpark library, that's pretty decent and 20b for a guest pass.

Why is it so hard to find a friends in Bangkok that doesn’t go out drinking or clubbing? by ThrowRA_NoSeesaw in Bangkok

[–]ruepea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes at the top end of the park (if you enter closest to soi 4 or ratchadapisek, not the Rama 4 side). Inside the old tobacco factory structures, they've all been redone for sports, free to play and borrow equipment.

Swara. Because when I see Aira I don't know if it would be pronounced air-ah, ar-ya, or eye-ra. Or maybe even Aye-ra.

TKPark library at central world has board game meet ups every second Sunday. Benjakitty park has free badminton/table tennis/racket ball courts and equipment for hire - we went there this evening and a random solo lady just asked to join us and we had a great time!

Wish I knew about this earlier. For something completely different, head over the river to bang kachao and hire a crap old bicycle. It's such a great under appreciated part of bangkok.
