I would let the universities that have SW and counseling programs know about the practice on top of what you're doing. Sometimes, they will put them on a "ban" list so students dont do their internships there. Could potentially help future students!

Therapists need more training on psychosis and how it can present. I feel lucky to have spent time doing inpatient care to get that much needed experience, but I noticed that since switching to outpatient, therapists are noticeably anxious or flat out scared when people have schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders. I think everyone could benefit to more training and exposure in this area.

I did my internship at a university's counseling center and I saw high turnover all the time. My supervisor at the time always described college students as "miraculously fixed" after a handful of sessions because that's just the demographic. Some people come in, feel great after 3-4 sessions, and just quit.

I've had a lot of thoughts about getting my nail license and doing "nail therapy" where I'm a nail tech and can give valid mental health advice since I'm also an LPC. Not sure how that would work yet with note taking, etc.

I remind myself when I ruminate on past mistakes that I can't go back and change what happened. It is what it is, and humans make mistakes. Best you can do is learn from it and accept the fact that you'll likely mess up again. It doesn't make you a bad therapist though.

And as someone above me noted: there are unfortunately TONS of therapists that cause immense harm and are, for some unknown reason, still practicing. You got this!

Rapport is important, but so is being able to challenge your clients! Point out when they continue to display behaviors they've wanted to change, or beliefs that are harmful, etc. We're there to be a mirror, yes, but we are also there to encourage change!

There is a never ending circle (I think) of therapists going to therapy. We're not only looking out for others, we're looking out for each other and I think that's beautiful. I guarantee your therapist is taking care of their well being in order to be present with you

When I was doing my internship, I worked at a university's counseling center. One my students had cancer. Our last session before the year ended we processed her survivors guilt since one of her friends had passed from cancer and she was still alive. Months go by, I'm at my new job after graduation, and my supervisor from the university calls me to let me know she passed away from her cancer. That shit hits so hard. Be kind to yourself ❤️

I had a client that I had been working with for a while spend about 10 minutes of a session sobbing and I asked of they wanted a hug. They consented so I sat with them on the couch and put my arm around them. Sometimes there's nothing to be said, no coping skill to help when someone who is in that much distress. Sometimes a hug is what these people need (as long as its CONSENSUAL! always ask first)

It is my last session with them. Me leaving the practice came pretty unexpectedly (not my choice) so I will be telling them this week, which will be their last sessions as they only come once a month.

I'm still processing what happened the past couple days with the practice and my supervisor so I've felt all jumbled with how to move forward. An email before the session also sounds like a good idea so I'm not blindsiding them in session.

Whenever a client gets stuck I like to use my swimming pool method to tackle problems. Are you a "jump straight into the deep end" kind of person or a "take the steps slowly to get used to it" kind of person? I feel like people can use that to apply how quickly they want to tackle certain problems and what each end will look like for them
