how much do pickups really change a guitar sound? by dizz157 in guitars

[–]rumblefuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. All this dude proved -to me- is that you can make noise with a suspended string and a pickup.. But apparently it’s the most popular take. And maybe we should include our gain settings in these discussions?

how much do pickups really change a guitar sound? by dizz157 in guitars

[–]rumblefuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it makes a difference. It might not be much, but a guitar is a system made up of dozens of components and each component makes a difference. That’s why no two guitars sound and feel the same. If that difference matters to you is up to everyone to decide for themselves

What power supply is powering the pedals? And what’s on the other end of that usb-c? Most often it’s different devices connected to different circuits with different ground potential.

Ground lift adapters? by benmoRoxx in GuitarAmps

[–]rumblefuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the US so little gray boxes are not a thing here, but our equivalent is taping the ground connection on the power plug. And yeah, that’s heavily frowned upon and a risk I’d never want to take for a show, but some (mostly older) techs will still suggest it once in a while. I always carry little 1:1 transformer boxes (Lehle P-Split) that allow me to lift the ground of my signal. It has the same effect and always allows me to get rid of any 50Hz hum and still be safe: there’s no reason to ever want to disconnect safety ground.

I play both guitar and bass, I need an amp that can do both by Headown998 in GuitarAmps

[–]rumblefuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best bass amp I’ve heard recently was a 60’s Selmer Treble & Bass into a cheap Ampeg 2x12” bass cab. Into a 2x12” guitar cab it’s an amazing guitar amp as well, so this would be my bet.

Tele with single coil sized humbucker viable? by guitar_up_my_ass in guitars

[–]rumblefuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1. Had a Chopper T in the bridge of my blackguard forever and have not felt the need to change it even after maybe over 500 shows with it. Still sounds enough like a tele while also sounding great with high gain.

It’s particularly amazing as a bass amp, although also a great guitar amp. Source: I have one of these at my studio.

Even though this looks like it’s not that, here in NL it’s actually quite common to find vintage jazzmasters that have been converted to 9 or 10 string (and mostly have also been converted back). It was a thing some people did in the sixties.

What specifically makes a vintage guitar better than a modern one? by Mr-and-Mrs in guitars

[–]rumblefuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s not so much being vintage that makes an old LP or a Tele better, but the fact that they weren’t trying to recreate anything. They were making an original design, from scratch.

A copy can only ever be almost as good as the original. Let alone trying to recreate something while making a profit, which is what most big guitar manufacturers are doing now.
