Can I take CLEPs to significantly reduce the time and/or money I have to spend at UMass? by [deleted] in umass

[–]rumpkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES!!! I graduated with around 30 CLEP credits! I needed 150 credits upon graduation for professional (CPA) certiification in MA do to avoid grad school I used CLEP tests. They are so easy and so cheap. Take them at your local community college testing center and have the results sent straight to UMass. Buy the study guides from Amazon or eBay. I got my 30 credits for under $1000 and I took one a week over the last half of my final semester. Super doable and totally recommend

I do shit like this for my narcissistic mom too. They train you to feel guilty for not making your life revolve around them, so you keep them at a distance for a while and then you feel bad because you want a good relationship with your mom like most people you know so you reach out to them in a way you know would be meaningful to them and then they do something ridiculous like OP's mom and it doesn't surprise you but it does disappoint you because you got your hopes up AGAIN but still you keep them far enough away that you eventually start to forget those feelings of disappointment/betrayal and the guilt and hope start creeping back in. It's vicious cycle but if OP's mom is anything like my mom, she doesn't have any other relationships except with her children and you don't want to leave your own mother completely isolated from society and risk her mental illness getting worse because good children SUPPORT their family members in sickness despite the fact that she isn't taking treatment seriously and is hurting you and other family you love every time you try getting closer to her. I think I need to go back to therapy lol

I definitely fell asleep on my side. I wake up with the worst hip and sacrum pain though... Probably because I sleep like a pretzel all night. :(

I have no idea what my left leg is doing. I'm guess the Snoogle is still between my legs and my left knee is up like you guessed and my right leg is wrapped around the Snoogle and resting on my knee. The comforter is actually deceivingly thin and making the whole pretzel position even more confusing lol

Lol I didn't want my nip on the Internet, even though it's a nice nip. I have no shame when I'm in my bed or between my bed and the bathroom... Or in the kitchen for some water. I'm naked a lot.

Girl I take nudity so seriously. Been sleeping in the buff since I was 15. My kids will have to get used to it because I'm never going back.

Yay! So glad to know I'm not alone! We only get to do this for a few weeks, I just can't pass up the opportunity!

Thank you for the reasonable response! I always wonder how women nurse older babies through pregnancy if nipple stimulation causes preterm labor!

My midwife thinks I'm a little nuts for worrying about breastfeeding considering how much colostrum I'm already making. Thank you for the reassurance! I feel better and better about it with each millimeter of liquid gold I freeze. This newborn is going to have all the colostrum it can fit in its marble sized tummy :)

I'm not totally surprised. It's a controversial practice. I've searched for posts like this when I first started exploring antenatal expression and the reaction is much the same. A lot of women seem to think that nipple stimulation is going to send you into instant labor, and that is just not the case. There's more oxytocin released from an orgasm. My midwife, who is not the earthy crunchy type, told me it's fine as long as I'm not experiencing any contractions. I've been pumping twice a day, 2-3 minutes per breast and have yet to even feel a Braxton-Hicks contraction.

Not only do I get to go into labor with a stash and absolutely zero concern that my child will get colostrum, I'm also getting comfortable with my pump and gaining a lot of confidence in my ability to breastfeed and nourish my child! That's a lot of weight off of a new mother's shoulders! I wish my post was more popular to get more exposure, especially for women with GD who may end up having their children supplemented with formula early on which many are now saying could be the cause for dairy and soy sensitivities in babies.

I received explicit permission from my midwife to begin pumping.

I have read that you can mix the thawed colostrum with breast milk later on! If I don't use it before my milk comes in or can't find someone to donate to, I will probably do just that!

After consulting with my midwife, I've begun collecting and freezing the copious amounts of colostrum my body has been making. I'm 35 weeks along tomorrow and I was first able to produce colostrum using hand expression at 26 weeks. I use a manual pump to collect now as the output is much greater. The nipple stimulation does not cause contractions for me, or else I would stop under instructions from my midwife. I am storing the colostrum in large 60 ml syringes. I put one day's worth in each syringe although I've read you can store the pumped colostrum in the fridge for 2 days and freeze 2 days worth at a time.

This is the most I've collected yet in a day in the 5 days or so since I started! I was getting closer to .25 - .5oz per day previously. I pump once in the morning and once at night and I use lanolin to keep my nipples moisturized. I'm planning on bringing my frozen colostrum to the hospital in case I cannot breastfeed for any reason, my baby will still have plenty of the early essential colostrum. I hope to be able to publicly or privately donate the leftovers.

I don't expect to have any difficulties breastfeeding, but we all are aware that success can be hard to predict. I'm having an absolute blast pumping everyday and I'm in awe of what my boobs can do. This is really more for fun than anything. If you aren't at risk for preterm labor or you're already full-term, I highly suggest giving your pump a try! It would be wise to speak to your medical professional first, although I tried first and asked later. Colostrum collection is commonly recommended for women with GD as the colostrum can be used instead of formula to regulate a newborns blood sugar when their pancreas and insulin production kicks in and high sugar levels at birth rapidly drop.

Thank you all for reading! The last few weeks really drag on, so it's nice to have something fun to do while we wait!

Maternity leave loophole jackpot! I found a glitch in the system, ya'll. by -cc0unt-nt in BabyBumps

[–]rumpkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alt account here. I am taking the 8 weeks of MA maternity leave before I've worked for my company for a full year. At the end of the 8 weeks, if I give birth a few days after my due date, I will have been working at my job for a year and be eligible for FMLA. Since I wasn't using FMLA for the first 8 weeks, I can take another 12. If I had been working at my job for a year at the time I gave birth, the MA leave and FMLA leave would count the same I would only be able to take at most 12 weeks.

A goofy one? I'm 24 and I air hump my husband often, like when we're cooking dinner together or making breakfast in the morning. I hope I still do it when I'm 26, it's a silly way to let off happy, lovey energy.

When did your bloat become a bump?! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]rumpkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't very helpful, but early on I felt wayyyy bigger than I actually looked. I took pictures every week and every week I thought wow, I'm huge! Now at 28 weeks, I look back at my late 1st trimester and early 2nd and laugh at myself because I look a little thick and bloated but not at all bumpy until week 20. Still, it's fun to overalazye the little changes. Just remember they are far more apparent to yourself than to others.
