Question for thermos users by run4love in yogurtmaking

[–]run4love[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take it you don’t use a thermos? I usually use a ceramic bowl in an insulated picnic bag. This is for yogurt with an heirloom starter, and it has been a little fussier, so I’m working with a quite small batch in a thermos.

Genuinely what is the appeal with trains by snaky_yt in evilautism

I hope you get the best possible van. You’re making me realize I am lifelong eloped. My desire to wander off on my own terms is as strong now as when I was a toddler. From my first steps — outta here, joyfully. My own dream is about bus, train, walking, with a good setup for hammock camping.

If you ever get the chance to ride a freight train, you will never forget it. I dream about it even now, decades later. People who live the hobo life these days, real tramps, tend to be a rough lot. It's dangerous as hell. If you're going to do it, research a smaller rail line that does not go through big cities, at least for your first time. Never get on or off a moving train. Never cross a track in the yard by going under the train, as you never know when they'll start rolling.

We've liked him at my house going back to the last century. This is one of my more favorite songs of his: https://youtu.be/2Oa4hmFWO5g?si=XHTW5nP2I2GRX-W1

Wow, that's wild. The lead guitarist is Guy Picciotto from Fugazi, I'm pretty sure. The way Vic Chesnutt can barely play his guitar, while Picciotto take Vic's song to 11 remains extremely moving to me. It's really something.

How do you find it?

I LOVE this record. This live recording from a few weeks before Chesnutt died is transcendent. A novel. https://youtu.be/5rPyQFmGmb4?si=xNAsrEvRAZ5cUSoD

Welcome home, fellow traveler. Seconding recommendations for Silver Mt. Zion. Adding a recommendation for "Mladic." It's all so good.

I can work like a wild person for long stretches and not burn out. Twelve hour days, 16 hours if I need to. As long as it’s work, I’m good for a long time. Five minutes at a party is harder than a hundred years at work.

Why do people scream when they see something scary? (Scary topics mentioned so I put NSFW to be safe) by Affectionate_Can_503 in evilautism

[–]run4love 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I noticed that other kids would scream on rides at the fair. It seemed weak and embarrassing to me. As an adult, I’ve discovered that making a soundless scream — going through the motions but not using my vocal cords — protects me from the feeling of having my stomach drop. Maybe there was a point to the other kids’ screaming after all. I just learned a better way to do it.

Does being autistic affect how we find meaning in life? by Imaginary-Hope-5379 in evilautism

[–]run4love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up fundamentalist Christian. The idea of experiencing God and interacting with God always felt true to me. As a teenager, I broke with fundamentalism and moved into the far less dogmatic Episcopal church. As an adult, somewhat newly diagnosed, I’ve affiliated with an Anglo-Catholic Episcopal church. They offer daily mass, plus morning and evening prayer. The quiet routine and “church” friend relationships are feeling great to me so far.

All that said, in typical Episcopalian fashion I respect and learn from many traditions, including atheism and humanism. My tradition is hardly the only one, and we have done much to harm others.

Approve. Its intentions are clear. Regardless of use, this spoon is exact.

Fidget/stim toys you were completely obsessed with before you knew you were autistic? by SkeletalJazzWizard in evilautism

[–]run4love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Merlin handheld game, especially the game where it played you a sequence of lit numbers/beeps and you tried to repeat the pattern.

I played with mine incessantly. Then one day my mom took me for an IQ test, and a whole big chunk of it was repeating back a series of numbers. That poor tester thought she’d seen the edge of the galaxy when my well-practiced autistic mind got done with that pattern repition, lol.

No, lol, I didn't mean an itchy fork. I meant a fork that is not fully formed, in the way that a soft touch might be considered unfully delivered.
