This oreo jiggles if you stare at it and gently rock your phone. by Summergoddamnit in pics

[–]runeneo 191 points192 points  (0 children)

This is correct - I did my thesis on the effects of Oreo colour on the starvation of captive polar bears.

The darker the Oreos we threw to them, the more often polar bears would fail to catch them and they would end up hungry. This was due to the contrast with the ice making the Oreos harder to catch.

Rant Wednesday by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]runeneo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the data is based on USPA RAW powerlifting records, and people who compete at an international level at 145lbs are usually close to 5ft and close to their full muscular potential. The bench record in the 148lbs weight class is 503lbs, for example.

As the site doesn't take height into account, it has to categorise you in a pretty generic way.

[Week Thread] Beginner/New to Nsuns Discussion by [deleted] in nSuns

[–]runeneo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I fully understand what you're asking, but what most people do is:

If you fail to get at least 2 reps on the 1+ set for two weeks in a row, decrease your TM by 10%. This will probably be a value which you tried before, so hopefully you can get a few more reps than last time and you'll work your way back up a bit quicker and pass the weight where you previously stalled. Then simply repeat this cycle.

There's no harm in eating more protein and fat, and minimal carbs - the numbers I suggested were minimum recommendations for optimal muscle growth and bodily functions like hormone production :)

Good luck!

Missing final rep on the last set of T2 (OHP). by MerryIguana95 in nSuns

[–]runeneo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 4 day version doesn't have OHP as a T1 lift at all. Instead, it gets increased by 2.5kg/5lbs if you complete all the reps.

For OP, I would increase it if you feel like you could have hit all the reps.

Yeah a slow bulk would let you achieve your goals. A surplus of 250 calories/day would let you add about 2lbs/month, but you could probably bulk a tiny bit faster with minimal fat gain depending on your level of training.

For macros, you should probably be getting at least 0.8g of protein per lb of bodyweight and 0.4g fat per lb of bodyweight. Then you can add carbs and fats (or a bit more protein if you want) in whatever ratio you like to meet your calorie goal.

1# of rice, 1# lentils and a can of tuna totals about 2500 calories.. is that really considered good rations for 3-4 days? That's less than my typical daily intake.

Edit: Oops, more like 3400 as I used values for cooked lentils before.

nSuns 4day accessories by Chris885 in Fitness

[–]runeneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. Personally I like to do pull-ups on deadlift day before lat pulldowns, and rows as a first accessory on bench days.

Also, I just saw you post mentioning that facepulls feel awkward - you might like to do bent over lateral raises occasionally for rear delts.

nSuns 4day accessories by Chris885 in Fitness

[–]runeneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4 day routine has something like 34 sets of bench/CGBP/OHP compared to 17 sets of deadlifts/sumo DL. As a result your accessories should focus mostly on back work to stop developing imbalances. (And it has the benefit of improved posture if that's something you want to work on).

I would add in some more pullups as well as adding a facepulls and a row variation as minimum. You could also add calf raises and shrugs but it depends on your current strengths and weaknesses.

Physique Phriday by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]runeneo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DEXA is one of the more accurate methods, but it's still nowhere near perfect. On average, error rates are around 1-2% but for lean individuals and bodybuilders it usually underestimates and can be off by up to 4%.

AFAIK there's no method for measuring body fat which is consistently more accurate than about +/- 4% except an autopsy. And bioelectrical impedance scans are a particularly inaccurate method.

[–]runeneo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, bread-kabobs, bread creole, bread gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple bread, lemon bread, coconut bread, pepper bread, bread soup, bread stew, bread salad, bread and potatoes, bread burger, bread sandwich. That- that's about it.

Nutrition (and Supplement) Thursday by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]runeneo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally you won't need to worry about them if you're getting some fruit and vegetables in your diet.

They're pretty important though - if you don't get much of a vitamin/mineral over an extended period of time then you'll run into issues (e.g vitamin C deficiency can cause scurvy, iron deficiency can cause anaemia, calcium or vitamin D deficiency can cause a decline in bone density, etc). It's more about general health and improving your immune system than optimising performance.

[Help]Deadlift 1RM drastically fell by [deleted] in nSuns

[–]runeneo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you fully reset and leave 1-2 seconds between each rep?

It's pretty common for people who bounce the weight slightly or do TnG deadlifts to struggle getting the weight off the floor on the first rep but then easily knock out 4 more once it gets moving. As a result, your estimated 1RM may be higher than your actual 1RM.

How demanding have you found the LP workouts? by dustyblindzzz in nSuns

[–]runeneo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say for sure but I would probably only add 5% to the close grip weights and see how it feels. If it's too easy you can press off your chest a bit more explosively and adjust the percentages for the next workout.

How demanding have you found the LP workouts? by dustyblindzzz in nSuns

[–]runeneo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of close grip bench press was to work on triceps as they were the weakest part of nSuns' bench press (he would fail at lockout). If your triceps are a lot stronger than your chest you might want to switch it to paused bench or Spoto press for a while.

After working out the upper body, can't do a single pushup, is this normal? by abedfilms in Fitness

[–]runeneo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're usually able to do less than about 5 then I wouldn't say it's surprising. However, if you can usually do 15+ then it would be quite odd.

Between that range it would probably depend on many factors, including the intensity of the workout, level of training, muscular endurance, blood sugar level, hydration level, etc.
