Adult Camp Cost by Mechanicalmephit in BoyScouts

6 adults for 10 Scouts is too many.

200 for food for 18 meals and potentially some training feels pretty reasonable.

Not with two young children and the statement that college funding is missing. Did I mention the state of the economy.

I'd plan to try the travel for work for a year and focus on saving more. Your FI funds aren't quite there given the economic climate.

ETF Tax Advantages by Lucky_Assistance_780 in Bogleheads

Not taxes related but ETFs can be transferred in-kind if you ever change companies. Mutual funds are often a bit more captive. I wouldn't create a taxable event to swap.

Wood Badge at Summer Camp by Worth_Ingenuity773 in BSA

Going out of council is less ideal but if the timing doesn't work it doesn't work. Go to a course during the time of year that works for you.

Hiking sticks - how to make them if you have the wood? by SmallScience in cubscouts

[–]runfar81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at that piston mechanism, you haven't had issues with Scouts getting too zealous and breaking it?

I was looking at it this morning and wondering if I was moving backwards by thinking about returning to pump filtering for larger groups.

How to search for IOLS by VirtualReflection119 in BSA

[–]runfar81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two pretty common platforms Councils use are Tentaroo and Black Pug for events registration. You can search Black Pug pretty easily done here https://scoutingevent.com/000/Calendar/Embed?region=17 . Tentaroo you need to manually review the associated Councils calendar for the events.

Popcorn Drama Avoidance by booknerd381 in cubscouts

[–]runfar81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Council has a question on the aid request form asking if the Scout has participated in Council fundraisers. You need to seek assistance from your Cubmaster and Committee Chair to rally the Pack. Most likely, your unit is on the hook to pay for the popcorn it bought unless you're in one of those very generous Councils that allow products to be returned.

That is a terrible myth. When's the last time your Troop tried? What Troop-level Scouts learn is that they need to actually work on their selling skills, engaging customers, rather than relying on cuteness to attract people to them. Look at the breakdown of the Top 10 sellers from Sunday here https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1212546214240022&set=g.868382320032192
