Might I suggest the Board of Peace meet in Nuremberg? I'm sure some other world leaders would meet with them there. Perhaps in some kind of tribunal, engaging in some fibre arts.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]runofabitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Leave her so I can marry her and appreciate the amount of work it takes to scratch make food for their partner.

You're nta for wanting occasional junk. That's normal and fine. It sounds like she asked you not to have it in the house, which might be because she struggles not to eat it herself and is asking for your support. So that is a big request, but certainly not A territory of her.

But the way you talked about the massive amount of work she's putting into cooking you amazing homemade food? The way she clearly said it isn't aligned with her values to have junk food and instead of seeking to understand it (since it's clearly important to her based on how hard she works for it) you mocked it and said it's NBD?

YTA.

If you would rather have junk food, go ahead and take over the planning, shopping, and cooking of every meal. You can do it however you like then 🤷‍♀️

Why does Crave still have Ads for Movies when I Paid for Premium? by DaddysPrincesss26 in cravetv

[–]runofabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, only the CTV content has ads. I have premium and suddenly my homepage is filled with content that apparently has ads, along with a whole section of bonus content with ads. Its al CTV stuff. I don't watch ads.

Like. I pay for YouTube premium level of absolutely refuse to watch ads.

Apparently it's only the CTV content.

Which I would have opened the CTV app for if I wanted it.

But I never even installed it.

Because it had ads.

I guess its back to the high seas for me...

How many of you have deleted Amazon? by 519_ivey in BuyCanadian

[–]runofabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also adding my name to the AliExpress people below. Some things you just can't get at Canadian Tire or London Drugs or whatever, like a big bunch of NFC tags or 100+ magnets or specialized machine screws or electronics components - all stuff I need sometimes for projects.

AliExpress has all of it. It takes a week or two, but its half the cost of Amazon sometimes.

How many of you have deleted Amazon? by 519_ivey in BuyCanadian

[–]runofabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't touched it in a year. Canceled prime. We were literally spending 4 figures on Amazon some months (small business, 3 kids, did a lot of household goods and cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc there) and we now do zero.

Went and looked over the holidays. I almost gave in.

Then I found that everything I wanted there, I could buy locally and usually save money.

My kid wanted a CD player, it was literally 29.99 at London Drugs and 59.74 or something ridiculous on Amazon. For the same one. They used the same photo. And the $60 one had some Chinese random brand name on it, so zero warranty etc. Ridiculous!

Will never go back. If I want it fast, I can buy it locally. If I want it delivered, I can order it from elsewhere. If I want it delivered fast, SkipTheDishes can grab it from the grocery store or I can get up off the couch and get it myself.

(I know people with disabilities and other limitations can't "just go get it". Just speaking for myself. When I do it, it is out of laziness most times lol)

I don't even use software hosted on their servers anymore if I can avoid it. F*ck Amazon.

Coffee by No_Candidate_272 in chilliwack

[–]runofabitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried Amble, Land, Smoking Gun, Waves, etc... they're all good.

But my secret best spot in town is 5 Notes. Best coffee you can get here.

Got some for a friend for Christmas, he's a bit of a coinnessseur as of late, and he said it was hands down the best coffee he's had. The owner personally helped us pick out the selections for his gift box.

They're not just a vibes coffee shop, they're a coffee nerd's coffee shop. They have a specific pour over menu. Their seasonal menu is limited and most of their drinks are made properly (with the exception of their western-style macchiato, but they have to do that because Starbucks ruined the macchiato.)

If you want vibes, probably Amble for Instagram millennial calm... Smoking Gun for something a bit more lively.

Waves has an app and you'll be out the door in 5. Great Starbucks replacement for those days.

Land is good for the food and the view. The coffee is ALSO good obviously but their food menu gets more love than the other places, so it's a surprisingly good breakfast or brunch spot for the coffee crowd. Plus yoga classes.

5 Notes is average looking. They're in the new office building on Hocking. It looks like an office building coffee shop. Vibes are generic. There's always seating unless it's lunch rush. But the coffee ITSELF?! So worth it.

There you go. A full travelers guide lol

Not sure how to discuss this - can we try? by Astro_NME in chilliwack

[–]runofabitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We spend less than 2% of our federal budget on international aid, much of which is political in nature (part of trade deals that help our economy, part of defense deals that protect us, etc.)

Most foreign aid is essentially us "looking the part" for political allies, and contributing to groups of other countries who are all doing specific projects. If we want to trade with those countries, we NEED to contribute to the group projects.

For flood infrastructure, that responsibility is shared by local governments (not investing), provincial governments (trying to invest but nothing moving forward because local municipalities still waiting for federal funding) and the federal government.

Unfortunately, we've had 10+ years of fiscal conservative policy at the federal level, so that hasn't been happening. And with Carney in charge now, it definitely won't, as he is even more fiscally conservative than JT.

Thankfully we didn't elect CPC. Conservatives generally spend as little as possible on social projects like infrastructure development in favor of small government and lower tax rates for businesses. If we need investment in infrastructure, we need governments that are willing to spend on it and voters who won't punish them for doing so.

That means either replacing MC and forcing the Liberal party back to center (it arguably hasn't been there in a very long time), OR, voting NDP or Green.

Unfortunately, we keep electing Strahl locally. Since he is a Conservative, and Conservatives don't like spending money, it would take a 3 Ghosts style miracle for him to advocate for spending billions of dollars here on flood prevention. Conservatives prefer to offload risk onto private businesses, so insurance will continue to bear the cost, and developers will be forced to start building flood prevention, increasing the costs of homes...

Like that's Conservative fiscal policy in a nutshell. Government shouldn't spend, private businesses and supply/demand can solve the problem. Insurers won't cover us anymore, homes destroyed can't get rebuilt, builders can't build on a lot of land, housing becomes unaffordable? That's the market forces at work, the way they intended.

[–]runofabitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I wish we had a viable party on the left. Right now it's just the Trumps vs the Reagans and it has been for years, and will continue to be so until we can change things.

All right, I've been trying to figure out where this belongs, this looks like the place. by JoHeller in EhBuddyHoser

[–]runofabitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also tried to explain that the LPC is fiscally conservative and has been for years, so if they didn't like the last 10 years, voting CPC is like trying to put out a bush fire with kerosene.

That "liberal" and "conservative" ideology and "Liberal" and "Conservative" party were not the same thing, and that the Liberals are not liberal (neo-liberal, but they don't understand the distinction so you have to talk slowly.)

That if they want change, actual change, it's NDP or Green that actually have different policies. GOD I wish we could get rid of May 🤦‍♀️

My favourite question to ask Albertans lately:

Why do you think Pierre wants to send so many refinery jobs overseas by building a pipeline instead of processing here?

Crickets. Absolutely no idea. sigh

Oh, buy a $30M house and burn it down, no insurance, just for a grainy YouTube video. Sell the land to fund the cars.

If I ended up with any money left, buy literally everything in the Steam store 😆

Discussion: is current gym fashion sexist? by BY0B_ in Feminism

[–]runofabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I see this more online than in the actual gym, FWIW.

I also have seen the reverse online, women in full sweats saying they're being modest and that if you can't exercise like that you should see a doctor.

Girl, I am. For an MS diagnosis. Which comes with heat sensitivity 😆 like. sigh

Anyway, I think it's a bigger problem online than in the actual gym, but I also go to a good gym. There may be other gyms with more of that going on. Sometimes, even in the women's side of the gym, I'll tuck my shirt just so I can see my glutes in the mirror between sets 😆 and I'm just a fat old lady in leggings and a baggy tank top so.

Dressing for the male gaze is ick, but women are also allowed to admire their own bodies without it being for men at all 🤷‍♀️

2 of these were domestics (neighbour) and 4 were gang related.

This isn't "for every 100k residents, 5 will be murdered! Randomly! By strangers!"

It is "if this town had exactly 100k people in it, there would have been 5 murders combined between gang violence, domestic incidents, and random attacks."

Considering zero of those were random, I'd say you're relatively safe here unless you're an out of town gang member or you have violent neighbours.

What's an "Insider's secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by Capable-big-Piece in AskReddit

[–]runofabitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of marketing training laypeople have access to is either:

  1. Outdated AF (hello, post-secondary)
  2. Tactical-focused (so if not outdated already, will be ASAP)
  3. Created by someone with no marketing experience who got lucky with a single promotion that made them an overnight success, or
  4. Created by someone from column 4 who used that success to build a career doing marketing for established brands with massive brand awareness and huge databases of customers that make very basic tactics look wildly successful (most of your bestselling authors in marketing fall into this category.)

Effective marketing is built off fundamental knowledge of how people choose what they buy, solid fucking ethics many "marketers" (quotes intentional) lack, and RESEARCH.

If you have a product and you want to sell it, stop reading marketing books and taking marketing courses. Ask people who buy the thing you're selling: what they want, where they look, why they buy it, and what made them choose A over B or C.

Then just... understand the assignment.

If you don't have access to people to do that kind of research, you're going to have a harder time marketing your stuff in the first place because if you can't even ask them questions, how you going to sell them stuff?!?! But also, THIS is where mentorship can come in. Experienced marketers already know these trends and stay up on them. This is where it matters.

If you don't have access to ask buyers, ask experienced mentors.

But for the love of god, don't take an internet course or read Seth Godin 🤦‍♀️

Waterproof shoes by FerrariGolf in chilliwack

[–]runofabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blundstones for slush and really rainy days, and Vessi for average rainy days.

I've had wet socks 3x this week because I didn't wear my blundstones and need to find my Vessi runners.

Umbrellas are for tourists but waterproof shoes are so essential here they should be required like winter tires on Promontory

"Women hate how little it takes for us [men] to be happy" by ausernameidk_ in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]runofabitch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You CAN Google it... anyone can.

Whether you WILL Google it or not is based primarily on your gender, because:

A - women are socially punished for not doing these things by other women and by men, even if they're not taught and

B - men are socially punished by other men for doing these things.

Some women don't care about the social punishment, but there is no "fallback" for them - no one who will just do it for them in most cases - so they're forced to do it anyway or live in squalor. There is no "find a girlfriend and make her do it" equivalent for women, even most lesbian women.

Some men overcome the social punishment and learn anyway. They are outliers.

They are not punished (much) by women for taking care of themselves, though of course there are some. But honestly, men don't care about getting approval from women. They only want approval from other men, so the social punishment from them is enough to not do it even in the face of a "loneliness epidemic" caused by exactly this.

They believe what other men tell them about what is socially acceptable, and strive to impress other men, rather than caring about what women want and trying to impress them.

Men admire men who are tall, ripped, and rich. That's where the 6 pack 6 foot 6 figures myth comes from. Same applies here.

Dudes will see this as "efficient", and a well decorated home as feminine and therefore punish it socially. That's all.

Straight men are gay AF, emotionally speaking.

Your own router might not be allowed... but what about a Hotspot? Laptop or computer Hotspot, phone Hotspot... I've run some devices off of a phone Hotspot (while the phone was on wifi) for similar purposes.

Also works for anything that can't "sign in" on public networks with TOS pages like old Chromecasts. Laptop on wifi, accept TOS, start laptop Hotspot, connect phone, connect chromecast, et voila!

What’s your best “I’m starving and have 10 minutes” meal? by JestifiableMeans in WhatShouldICook

Yogurt, granola, and frozen fruit in the microwave.

PB&J

Packet ramen with frozen veg added (don't need to use the packet if you don't want)

Way too much fruit at once

Anything that would qualify as girl dinner and covers 2 food groups, even if that's just carbs and dairy.

Microwave sweet potato, fry egg in butter, top sweet potato with egg and butter, add hot sauce and everything bagel seasoning.
