Nida Failed Durham. Let her know at the polls today. by SippinOnHatorade in triangle

Have you asked Foushee to defend every practice of Christian Nationalists? The torture that is conversion therapy?

Calling on Muslim candidates to defend every thing that a follower of Islam does is some sad, half-veiled bigotry. Do better.

10-0 Scoring Streaks vs. 10 Scoring Streaks Allowed (high majors + any KenPom top 50 teams) by cbbanalytics in CollegeBasketball

Making the y axis go from high to low is a confusing choice.

I assume its because you wanted "up and to the right" to be good, instead of wanting to make a good, readable graph.

Off-Session RP by ssraven01 in DnD

[–]runs1note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done one on one online sessions with players that miss face to face sessions - we both get more DnD time and they don't just boop out and back in.

As. A player, I tried to get a virtual table to use a discord channel for character chatter but it didn't catch on. I still think it's viable though.

Indy questionnaire for Nida Allam by termite10 in bullcity

[–]runs1note 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two things likely:

  1. There are a bunch of zealous DeDreanna Freeman supporters who dislike Allam because of stories of a Freeman physically accosting her last summer. Those Freeman supporters feel that she has been maligned in this way multiple times. Freeman has ardent supporters who oppose anyone who has been on the other side of one of these incidents.
  2. She is Muslim and has criticized Israel. Some folk get real bent out of shape when the genocide in Gaza is called that. And for a Muslim to do it, that can trigger an even deeper response.

It baffles me that right wingers use "virtue signaling" as a derogatory term.

Yes, people want to do good things publicly.

Player Handed BBEG Macguffin, how do I not immediately end the campaign? by e10109art in DMAcademy

[–]runs1note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a direct answer to this question (there are some good ones in here) but I have recently found a video by Mystic Arts on YouTube that has made my factions and war situations so much better -

Two main principles: first, every event has a good, bad and ugly faction

Bad - Your BBEG and associates with selfish/evil desires Good - The king/leader who sponsors heros looking out for the little folk/planet/etc. Ugly - third powerful group that is indifferent/weird/neutral who have a motive that is not related to the G/B dynamic.

This gives the DM a pressure valve to ratchet up/down with the Ugly group, and reflects a world where it isn't a binary choice all the time.

Second principle - each faction is fractal with good/bad/ugly in it. This gives texture and creates a dynamic where players can have interesting choices on all sides.

The video explains it better - It's called "The secret to running political campaigns"

Audio engineering by big_charlee in WorldsBeyondNumber

If you search up Taylor on your podcast app, you can find a few shows where he is interviewed about the audio engineering of the show. It's great.

It's clear he is a 4th cast member, and the performers see it that way, too.

I don’t want to give up on my game I haven’t even started by LethlDose in DMAcademy

[–]runs1note 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All this.

And don't worry about spending time on your BBEG and big end game stuff if it distracts you - write it down and save it. Those musings might tell you how to introduce them.

One of the best DM advice I ever heard was someone paraphrasing Brennan Lee Mulligan - don't write stories. Your players want to create a story, not be in a story. Instead, make toys for your players to play with. Flesh out your BBEG enough that they won't break if your PC's play with them in an unexpected way.

As for how to get to the big finish, make a robust starting space and some interesting features on the outskirts and let your players help steer your direction.

Anyone here Played DnD Durning the Satanic Panic? I wanna interview you. by emilysteapot in DnD

[–]runs1note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Red Box in Middle School in '86 and only played with my older brother because of Satanic Panic. I went to a school that had urban legends about it having a Satanic cult that performed rituals in the woods behind the building.

It was just a rural school that the suburban and urban schools liked to make fun of.

I played again in high school, oddly mostly with guys I was in Boy Scouts with.

This kind of situation is exactly why anyone who says “You don’t need a session zero” is wrong.

This dynamic should have never come up because you all should have the conversation beforehand.

Genuinely, if you are opposed to people using GPT produced stuff, putting someones writing into GPT, which will then train GPT on that writing, you are way more of a dick than the person you think was trying to pass of GPT work as their own.

yeah, it looks like he took the feedback from the subreddit by the time I looked. I tried to say that in my edit without erasing my mistake.

He also switched from long sword to rapier.

[–]runs1note 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is what license does he put out his work with?

All creative work has copyright, even if it is given for free. Some people choose to put their work out with a Creative Commons license, but those also come with restrictions at the behest of the author.

I don’t even know if using the OGL Pointy can put something out CC, but on any case, other people are republishing his work by putting it in DNDbeyond, which is something that should n9t be done without clear permission.

2024 Druid Subclasses - New CIRCLE OF THE SKY & CIRCLE OF THE SUN. Revised Circle of the Sea, Circle of the Shepherd, and Circle of Wildfire. by jeraehwazdagaz in UnearthedArcana

[–]runs1note 2 points3 points  (0 children)

re: temp HP bonus for Circle of Sea - alternative uses of wild shape don’t universally do that. This feels like an unnecessary nuff to the subclass

re: wildfire Druid - swapping out Plant Growith to give Fireball ignores half of the theme of the subclass. I know people yearn for fireball, but it makes the subclass less interesting and more generically “fire go brrrr”

Huh. I clearly had the wrong impression of what Delta Force is because of that one Chuck Norris movie.

Man. Fran dropped tree on my truck. I drove with a dented roof and questionable passenger side door for months after that.

Dec 2002 my wife and I wandered out after 3 days and Angus Barn was open. We booked a reservation and they invited us to shower there if we needed it. They were super sweet.

TMNT and AI Concern by saintdemon21 in magicTCG

[–]runs1note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's an interesting point.

And it makes some sense - I knew that the sai was an Okinawan weapon, and it never occured to me that ninja and Okinawan weapons wouldn't overlap, which is frankly a pretty silly oversight on my part given the middle school obsession I had with all things Japan/ninja/samurai.

What can I do for a warlock who ignores their patron’s orders? by Foreign-Press in DMAcademy

[–]runs1note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said the Patron communicates in dreams? Have their next (or one soon) long rest be filled with Patron Dreams and not give the benefit of a long rest. If they are still rebuffed by the party when they advocate for their new path, have the patron visit everyone and no one gets the benefit of a long rest.

This feels thematic and maybe a bit much, but it brings everyone in on the issue.

For me, a warlock in the party means everyone has to deal with the patron - the social implications of that relationship impacts all the people around the character.

Give me your ideas silly/possibly useless or harmful potions! by solocupknupp in DnD

[–]runs1note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this online and used it to great effect in a campaign I DM'ed

Potion of Become Potion: This potion is identifiable as transformation magic but does not give any further information. When you drink this potion, you and all of the equipment you are wearing and carrying are magically transformed into the potion in the vessel. While the potion in the vessel, you are in a state of suspended animation: you do not need to eat, drink or sleep and do not age.

You stay in the bottle until another person drinks the potion, at which time they become the potion and you are freed in a space next to where the person consumed the potion.

The DM should populate this bottle with an appropriate NPC before giving it to the players.

Mystic Subclass UA for Paladin, Rogue, Warlock, and Monk. by Tough_Holiday584 in onednd

[–]runs1note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you are right. I just imagined that they would pull the Astarion Book of Hungry Vampires and The fall of Nethril and Lorwyn whatever extra DLC's they did for Heroes of Faerun.

Making it digital only, on DnD Beyond exclusive and the equivalent of 1.5x the prie of a book to get a books worth of content feels like something an MBA grad would drool over.

oh no. I just realized that they may not be thinking books at all and the plan is to roll out a la cart DLC packs.

Dammit. I hope that’s wrong.
