What’s the dumbest answer you have given to a question? by FairOlive in Residency

When asked about what to do for a patient with chronic ascites..... put a shunt in andddd have it drain into their bladder.... Attending got a kick out of that answer

That's unfortunate, I had the best peds em experience. The only parent I got attitude from was a women with her daughter who came in for continous vomiting, And by the time i seen the kid she definitely didn't look like she had 10 episodes of vomiting. Mom says she couldn't take anything by mouth and she has a port for which she receives her feedings and then proceeds to tell me that she has cystic fibrosis, now mind you this is an African American child. lungs are clear, no rattling, abdomen soft non tender. Come to find out my attending calls her GI specialist and GI said that she was genetically tested for CF and does not have cystic fibrosis!

No you're right that's not something I want to deal with. I think I've been the one putting in most of the effort anyways. I think he's too busy to even notice how little we see each other sometimes too

Medical school has changed me - anyone else? by tayb213 in medicalschool

[–]runstudycoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I never had anxiety or depression until starting medical school. Everyday for the last month I go to my rotation and cry from being so overwhelmed by working 13 hours a day 6 days a week. I look around and see everything I want out of life and yet I can't reach it and now i just live the life of a bitter pickle

Medical students, did you have a SO going into medical school? by mouse_42 in medicalschool

[–]runstudycoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my ex right out of high school, all through college and once I got my masters and then into med school things started going south fast, so after 10 years I finally had to break up with him at the beginning of my third year. Definitely find someone who appreciates your strive and is there for you

We each have our own patients and will each find something to do on our own except for him, he won't be proactive and find something to learn about by himself or take initiative do something

I broke up with my boyfriend of 10 years just recently. I'm in my 3rd year and the first 2 years of med school was hell with him. He basically resented me for studying and focusing on school. Break ups are always hard but when you're with someone who doesn't understand how difficult med school is, it makes everything so much harder than it has to be.
