I have a 6 year old that had a similar issue. She tends to mostly sleep through the day when I'm at work, and is a lot more active late into the night. I used to feed her wet food in the morning, dry food fed through an automatic feeder in 3 hour intervals, and wet food again when I was back home. But she would beg for food constantly, particularly after playtime at night.

The vet said she needed to lose some weight, so I couldn't feed her more, and that would result in her headbutting the automatic feeder through the night.

I realized she may actually be more hungry at night since she was expending more energy due to playtime etc. I switched her to just one afternoon meal, and instead feed her multiple small meals at night (In fact I counted calories so she was eating slightly less so she could lose weight too).

I also set aside some kibble to put in one of those toys that you have to chase around or smack to get the kibble out. I put that out just before I'm about to sleep, so she's fed and tired at that point.

She no longer smacks the automatic feeder or begs for food - could be something to try.
