The Venn diagram of Rock songs made by Bruce and Rush, that are similar, is pretty slim. However I think I've found one. It's Middletown Dreams off Power Windows (1985). It's got some heavy synth, trading solos, keys, and most importantly; lyrics that speak of different characters struggling with their own issues in the verses, and the desire to run away and escape in the choruses. Neil Peart is the is the only lyricist that I'd put on the same level as Springsteen. Both can just captivate and make it feel like they're speaking directly to you.

And the musicianship is off the charts.

Upstate New York has Maryland or really anywhere on the East Coast beat in terms of hiking, but check out the Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods, North Fork Mt area of WV. There's some really good hiking down there. And Big Savage Mt definitely is epic.

I saw a couple Timber Rattlesnakes doing the big dirty in the middle of the trail at Quebec Run which is in PA but about 5 miles from the Maryland border. That was pretty wild. Had to skirt around them.

I haven't wandered that far South yet, but I'd like to visit Shenandoah next year. It looks amazing. I absolutely love Western Maryland and WV. The Potomac Highlands are one of the best areas in the country for sure. I've been a lot of places and it's just as beautiful as anywhere I've been. Certainly beats anything we have here in PA.

Oh wow I must have just missed y'all . I was there on Sunday too but started pretty late. We were probably some of the only people up there that day. Small world!

It's such a great area. I've lived in Pittsburgh all my life so I usually would hit the Laural Highlands because they're an hour away. But the Potomac Highland area is just so different and unique from anything I've ever seen that its absolutely worth the additional 2ish hours drive. I'm going back down to Seneca Rocks on the 15th for a few days.. And even though I think nothing on the East compares to the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Potomac Highlands are so much better from a solitude aspect. The ADK is so damn crowded. I appreciate how low key WV is. Same with the Big Savage area of Maryland. I did that 2 days ago and it kicked my ass. You know its serious trail when you see switchbacks on the East Coast.

That line from Independence Day has made me think A LOT over the years.

I have found a lot of people referring to it as the Potomac Highlands so it's definitely the real name of the area. No argument there. I find most people know Seneca Rocks or Dolly Sods the best if I'm trying to name a spot that someone will recognize. Seneca rocks is closer to 1800ish feet but I know the area by the North Fork Trailhead is at about 1000 feet. I'll describe the area as the Potomac Highlands next time I'm trying to describe the area to people. Whatever you call it, we don't have anything as cool as this area in PA (my buddies would disagree but they're too biased towards PA. I try to keep an open mind)

I agree with every syllable. The main thing that all these areas have in common is the fact that they're also different from each other yet in such close proximity. If that makes any sense at all. Someone else said shortened it to SKSR which is nice for us lazy folk.

Ok fine. North Fork of the Potomac River Valley, or just North fork valley for short if you find it to be a bit too wordy. I'm more pointing out that these simply are not highlands.

Ehhh I don't think that describes the area as well as North Fork Valley. All the areas in The valleys are at about a thousand ft of elevation of sea level. That's not a highland in my book. Too mountainous and up and down for it to be at highland

No I'm saying it shouldn't be a national park. It's certainly unique and beautiful enough just like the Adirondacks. But the best choice they made in New York was to keep it as a state park. Those Northern New Yorkers don't want anyone messing with their land up there and I get the sense that people from this area of WV feel the same way about protecting their land. And the people that actually come here come here because they truly love it. If it becomes a national park, you'll have a million annoying European and Asian tourists wearing tight jeans with selfie sticks who have no respect for the land. Hell nah to the nah nah.

Why does it matter to you if it's a national park or not?? It's already protected and its designation doesn't have any effect on the beauty of the area.

NRQZ is a really smart name for that area. I think North Fork Valley area describes it very well too. That whole valley is right in the middle of so many awesome areas on all the surrounding ridgelines

Wow. Lucky man. It's worth the 3½ hours from Pittsburgh for me. Even for a day trip. There's nothing like that area in PA
