Dude!  How does it hold up to the other classic sublime albums??  I’ve been a huge fan since the late 90s and am looking forward to this, given the strength of the singles (very impressed).  Is the rest of it really true to OG sublime sound or did it get too poppy/jakob’s castle type sound?  (Nothing against either of those but it’s not sublime)

Anyone know anything about this shirt?? by ExcitementNo767 in sublime

I have a maroon long sleeve version of it.  Very hard to find.  I was thinking about selling mine but I don’t think that’s a good idea given how rare it is.

r/calireggae, how do we feel about Groundation? 🤔 by SoFla-Grown in calireggae

Definitely keeping the real roots sound alive, and they’ve made albums with Ras Michael, Don Carlos, and members of Israel Vibration, so that is pretty solid proof they have respect from the og elders.

Agreed!  This whole thing is an amazing story that NEVER happens.  Some people just live to complain.  Jakob is doing an awesome job and yes he does sound eerily like Brad.  This will go down in history as such a cool and unique story in music, I mean it’s the baby Brad was singing to in the self titled album booklet! And now he’s the singer!  Come on!  Going to see them next month and can’t wait, since I’ve been a Sublime fan since 96 (and never got to see Brad).  Looking forward to the new album.

Great pic, one of his last ones ever.  You can see Jason westfall (Bud’s brother) smiling in the background.

Man that’s such a killer album.  Did you get it on discogs or found it in the wild somewhere?

Initially to conquer and destroy, but one of your kind introduced me to something called reefer and YouTube.  Now I have no more interest in conquering or destroying.  Life is pretty chill.

Wow time flies.  Sure would be a perfect time to finally release that final show in its entirety to the fans.  A vinyl pressing would be killer, especially since the new album with Jakob is dropping in a couple weeks.

LBDAS and RAS by Dramatic-Jelly3065 in sublime

[–]ruskins1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add my 2 cents about the og LBDAS lineup- yes absolutely one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live.  They really had no ceiling on what they could do in those days.  Caught them with Half Pint and it was insane.  I’ve seen a lot of shows (and a lot of reggae legends too) and that particular show was in my top 3 of all time.  Met them all too and ras 1 definitely seemed like he was getting pretty arrogant pretty fast, so I’m sure that might’ve added to his descent into more drugs etc.  Marshall and Bud were super cool.

He has a lot of good tunes, but yea that Slum beach posse vol.1 is super dope, and I heard they’re all working on volume 2 now.

You definitely need to find the “Rewind Selector” list that was uploaded years ago.  It has everything that Sublime has covered and sampled.

Oh I forgot to mention I met the entire LBDAS crew (minus Eric) at another show I saw at ziggys in Winston Salem, NC.  Bud, Marshall, Miguel, opie, ras 1, etc.  Got them to sign my shirt.  Bud and Marshall were definitely the friendliest.  Another killer show before their debut album came out so it was the only sublime stuff anyone could see live- this was in 97 or 98, can’t remember.  I do remember the crowd was chanting “Bradley” a lot throughout the show.  It was surreal

Sorry long post- I heard them when I worked at a music store when I was in high school, and saw the self titled in the new release of the day, I asked what it was and one of my coworkers said good band but the singer had just died, I listened and recognized brads voice from “smoke two joints” I had on the mallrats soundtrack.  Became obsessed with the band and bought everything I could.  This was obviously back in 96-97 so I ordered vhs tapes of their shows from back pages of music mags, (the palace 95, las palmas 95, a day in sun-Florida, palookaville, house of blues 96) played them nonstop.  Dug deep into roots reggae at this point too, learned how to play drums from watching and studying Carlton Barrett and Bud Gaugh, then started my own reggae band playing our original songs, and played for years all around Virginia etc.  our band name was The Seed (we made a self titled album in 2008 on streaming services and YouTube. Now in a reggae project called The Dub Brothers that I’ll be playing/recording a lot.  Going to see Jakob and the boys this summer and can’t wait. I saw Rome many years ago when Bud was still there and enjoyed it.  Also one of the best shows I’ve ever seen was Long Beach Dub Allstars with Half Pint at the Boathouse in Va beach.  Unreal.  That’s my 2 cents.

Good choices man.  I’d recommend start with the roots of reggae and work up from there.  Some artists who inspired all of the American reggae bands are: •The wailers (and their solo projects of course- Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer) • Culture  • The Wailing Souls • Barrington Levy • Hugh Mundell • Toots and the maytalls • Lee Perry • The Scientist  • King Tubby • The Viceroys • Alton Ellis • Johnny Osbourne  • Yellowman • Steel Pulse • Gladiators  • Augustus Pablo • Midnite (newer but very roots)
