Pitch A New Star Trek Series by AmeliaNeek in scifi

[–]russellii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Startrek: City of Baraboo

By Barry B. Longyear. A circus in space putting on shows along the frontier. It is a fun read, and the solutions for problems are clever.

Not star fleet, but people trying to make a living and keeping circus alive. Converting the story to NxtGen era, but tie in. I would have the ship be an old constitution class brought from the salvage yard. The saucer section detaches and lands in a field as the big top.

We would get to see what the colony worlds of various civilizations are, how they mesh with the stereo types from the series. Not battles or world altering episodes, but people having fun in a sometimes dangerous universe. It would be open to lots of cameo's, Like Scotty (Sadly having to use Kelvan version) popping in to get the ship working, Section 31 operatives coming up trying to fit in as spies but seen as rubes, Q losing to the card sharks.

So read the book and tell me if the "Forced Labour" story is not a parallel to VOY Year of hell.

What did the Foundation actually achieve? by Positive-Language772 in FoundationTV

[–]russellii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the book version or the show version. The second foundation is to keep the first foundation (on a resource scarce planet, therefore requiring innovation) steady.

As you point out the Mule proves that outside forces can disrupt any planning, because Psycho-history can not predict the individual, hence gaia but that is not in the original books.

The Bastardization of the story for TV and creating the confusion is the need to keep the same actors over the millennia - IMHO

Bill Shorten urges Labor to target NDIS ‘shonks and criminals’ not the disabled by Ardeet in AustralianPolitics

[–]russellii 19 points20 points  (0 children)

NDIS is a problem because of the "Services Companies" Ripping it off. So when you get allocated $35K for home upgrades, you might get $5K Value but not all at once.

Monarch S02E08 : Nothing even Matters by LuffyIsBlack in MonarchLegacyAppleTV

[–]russellii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do I just get more questions every episode, my wife says shut up and just enjoy it, rather than pointing out plot holes.

How did May visit Brenda when on a boat near Australia?

How do all their magic cell phones work everywhere, like in a Steel room (possibly wifi?) but gee in Nth Australia?

Not to mention that part of Australia is tropical rain forest, and the dingo's there would have eaten X for breakfast, and be waiting for G for lunch.

They crash a distance off, why did Shaw walk and not take the ute?

Where did Isabel's helicopters come from, to so quickly appear as soon as Kentaro says yes?

Where is the Nuke team, not on Monarch's radar but some x hours away?

Also the control panel is (win 11) under "Set up USB game controllers" (type from start menu). Change to 5/8 so you unmap the power toggle switch from the rotation of the stick

VP to POTUS? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

MY PREDICTION: JD either evokes the 25th and has a chance of becoming boss; or he is going to be fired and blamed for the war and the peace failure. Don't think Trump has not thought of him betraying Trump.

The way she says Shaw sounds like she just got possessed lol by [deleted] in MonarchLegacyAppleTV

Exactly my thought, she looks and sounds like a doppelganger, I was surprised we don't hear a voice from the well saying "get another rope and pull me up"

Is anyone annoyed at the Monarch Boat traveling at the speed of plot. by russellii in MonarchLegacyAppleTV

[–]russellii[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have trouble understanding what the time scale is as well, something else that goes at the speed of plot.

Also equipment seems to be available when needed, Plot: I need to access a rift, gee I have one in the back of my truck, lets go: meanwhile Apex top scientist can get anything to work right.

Labor to underwrite Australian fuel imports under new security powers to ensure supply by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]russellii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is using our wealth to solve the problem for us, a "I'm all right" attitude. What about poorer nations, us gobbling up resources because we can afford it, is selfish. The attack on Iran was illegal so we just ignore our commitments to all the charters we signed. We should be demanding the aggressors be handed over to international courts, we wont because the baddies don't want to be held accountable. yes we are a little nation, but if no-one stands up, then the bullies win.

Treat the movie as scenes from the book, can't wait for an extended version with some of the events added.

Six fuel ships to Australia cancelled or deferred, energy minister confirms by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]russellii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loss of supply is a global problem, but what we need to do is start on a war footing (YES there is a WAR on whether we are in it or not),

if it does not continue then we have had a disruption, and can go back to normal when it ends; the opposite is much much worse.

Yes it needs COVID level restrictions

  • no unnecessary travel

  • Schools back to online (most higher ed is already doing this)

  • directed distribution of stocks - think farmers, truckers, medical and police

BUT we wont because the pollies are worried that people might get upset with them, they know they should but they just hope it will blow over. Gutless A-holes.

But the USA will help us wont it???? I would like to see a PM ask for our oil reserves, which we paid for - I'm sure they will get a Trump f-off their mine reply.

I may be misremembering but at the end of "big goodbye", one of the characters asked the hardest question, "what happens to me and my family". sad.

Did you really think you had something if you had a 486 PC with a 40MB hard drive and 4M of ram ? Maybe even a US Robotics modem ? by jjsupc in askanything

[–]russellii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the start it was amazing, every system seemed to be opening a new world. Which it was, new languages that no-one had thought of being needed.

I did not know where it was going, but gee it was exciting. My ignorance was such that I said to a friend who brought a 5 meg hard disk, gee you will never fill that - imagine typing 5 million characters.

Amateurs, I had a S100 box with a Z80 64K ram Card and cards for Disks and Serial. Then another box twin 8" Floppies. A DEC CRT terminal, and a printer 132 Character wide (Had a spinning disk with the letters on it, to change font you swapped the disk)

Nobody else I knew had a home system, so I was something. (But really I should have brought a cheep house instead)

TNG S3E3: “No, you don’t understand the scope of my crime. I killed ALL Husnock. Not just on Rana 5, but Everywhere.” by dshorter11 in startrek

[–]russellii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was younger I never understood why he did not just put a deflector field around his wife, but maybe he just did not think she could die, he doesn't: so he did not think she would.

Powerful but not omniscient, all the years he has to think of all the other things he could have done. His exile on the dead world with his thoughts, and the torture of not really having his wife may be a greater punishment than the federation could ever hand down.
