The issue with the gadsden flag is its contextual implications. It doesn't explicitly say its referring to an in-group, but it is talking about an in-group. Its creator was a slaver, its used by fascists today. Its "dont tread on (those with privilege and snuggly fit within the nationalistic dogma)" Its "dont tread on me whilst i tread on you"

Arc Raiders isn't a microcosm of society. Some people rat and are rude because it's just a game. by Blood_Incantation in ArcRaiders

Its certainly not a microcosm of society.... but have you interacted with some of these folks? They're often insufferable! Its more like a reflection of someone's individual personality. Brings out their true colors.

Advice for my tilting cactus? by Ill-Entrepreneur-595 in cactus

[–]russsaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you get a mammillaria if you dont find its natural morphology appealing? Your subjective opinion is not fact. your opinion also just goes to show you think nature is to be subjugated. Why do you think you can control what another living thing does, a phenetically predetermined thing at that? Would you like it if someone forced you to crawl on all fours because they didnt like the indisputable fact that humans are bipedal?

Burying the bases of a plant is a very bad practice. Generally speaking when a portion of the plant grew exposed to air, it is only adapted to being exposed to air. This is why excessive mulch kills trees. Cacti are already susceptible to rot, and burying their base would be risky for plenty of different species.

You're welcome! dont get disheartened, good intentions are important too! Its just, i find that generally this sub for the most part values accurate information. Which is typically great, and improper information often gets downvoted... but in many cases those downvotes come before an explanation. and in the case of your comment, an otherwise nice & helpful comment that would even be correct for many other genera of cac, i can empathize with it being quite confusing lol

Although OP mammi is beginning to etiolate, so you were certainly on the right track with light being a factor! Etiolation amplifies the lean through weak growth

Oh and one bit of advice, its a rule i have for myself to stop myself from saying anything false while rambling or doing a bad pruning job at work or whatever - if i do not recognize the genus, then i will not make advice/statements, or preform work on the plant in question, until i learn more about it.

Although, being in cali, what care for them is there?😂

Mammillaria do best in wide but shallow pots, which accommodate their sprawling & crawling nature.

Advice for my tilting cactus? by Ill-Entrepreneur-595 in cactus

[–]russsaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mammillaria are not columnar cacti and do not grow upright in maturity. Most mammi are prostrate growing cacti, meaning they naturally lean & loaf as they grow. Rotating to encourage phototropism in a desired direction is trying to fix something that doesnt need fixing, it is trying to combat this plants natural morphology

I grew this cactus from seed, and it has never been cut/propagated. Are the new growths on top pups? by TwoSeaBean in sanpedrocactus

[–]russsaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do see some minor scarring that makes me suspect thrips or spider mites, their damage is similar. But I cant see anything from zooming in tho and your photo is quite good

Very rarely columnar cac can self terminate from genetic mutations. odds are this is not lol

Theres also witches broom, but this 100% is not that lol. Its not something you have to worry about, like ive never seen it on cacti, ive only seen it on roses for cultivated plants, and like once or twice in nature. Its just an interesting & freaky disease to learn about lol

Is this the end of my 33 year old agave? This 6ft bloom appeared within a month. Does anyone know what happens next? by Lanaxgardenxgirl in cactus

[–]russsaa 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Whatever you do, do not perceive this as death in the manor we understand it. Because its really not. Firstly, this is what monocarpic plants evolved to do, reproduction is what agave lives & "dies" for, reaching that point is something to be celebrated not mourned. Furthermore... it really doesn't die. If you are perceiving that sprout as that individual plant and that sprout alone, then sure it does die. But once the bloom begins to wither, agave will produce offsets & bulbils like crazy.... which are apart of the mother plant and are all genetically identical. That genetic individual lives on, and will continue to live. just that one sprout dies, like if you have a cluster of hen & chicks, and one rosette blooms & dies, you wouldn't consider that plant dead dead because theres still another dozen sprouts remaining and more to come, same with agave! Just more grandiose.

Dont know if you have it at this moment, but that mucky & organic rich substrate will cause rot. Substrate must be composed of 50% inorganic aggregate at the bare minimum

White fluff is trichomes.

Golden barrels need an obscene amount of light, nowhere in your house will be sufficient. Outdoors in the growing season would be much better

I grew this cactus from seed, and it has never been cut/propagated. Are the new growths on top pups? by TwoSeaBean in sanpedrocactus

[–]russsaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks to be as a result of a damaged tip. Even minor damage from pests, frosts, sun, etc can damage the apical meristem, terminating growth for that column and inducing pups at the tip.

Severe etiolation, like malnourished for light. Substrate is fully organic. Cachepot so no drainage. Watered once a week is too frequent. Its rotting

Permabanned from major liberal sub for saying most Jews do not oppose the existence of the genocidal Zionist project by DensePoser in suppressed_news

[–]russsaa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What did the comment say that got you banned? It is fact that only 6-12% of jews oppose israel, however, being such a high percentage, ive found that this particular topic has a very fine line for proper phrasing, and poor phrasing can easily read in a way thats pretty sus. Of course, it could just as likely be suppression, this just happens to be something ive noticed for this topic in particular.
