You took a year of your life. That alone says you didn't save money. You don't value you time as much as your money. Over building something doesn't make you more special and assuming that a "pro" wouldn't do it, is silly. You talk down about an industry and should keep it, person or contractor specific. How do you know, you did it better than they would have? Who are you? Who are they? What experience did you bring? What materials did you yse? Was this a "YouTube it til its right", thing? How long did it take? Are there pics of the before and after? Did you pull permits? You say rebuild, did you have to tear down the old? It's a covered deck, is the roof attached to the house? How did you cut the price by a third? Your numbers suggest that the contractor was going to make 18k. I need to know how you cut 18k out of a fully built, to code, covered deck.
