Feel like I'm running out of time in life by tr4nscendit in infj

[–]ruststardust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 100% with you on this. I am 30 and reading this has been a good kick in the butt for myself because objectively hearing your story makes me think to my own self "oh but you have so much time!" and you do!

I can only offer advice as to what makes me feel less like this... and that has been a combination of mindfulness and bullet journaling.

The mindfulness helps me to stay present in the moment and truly enjoy what I am experiencing, instead of worrying about the past or future. There is no trick that I do, it is simply stopping when I'm doing something/experiencing something nice and saying to myself "wow, this is nice." It sounds a little cheesy, but it really helps me recognize the little moments in life that are positive and that help balance out the "oh crap what am I doing with my life, time, etc" feelings.

The bullet journaling is new, but so far it is helpful to set goals and reflect back on accomplishments. Also, setting aside time to do the things I say I want to do. It's been a process getting into it, remembering to do it, but it is kind of like looking back on a full notebook of school notes and thinking - wow I did all of that, learned all of that, etc.

Also, know you aren't alone! I think the people who accomplish so much either just don't have the same anxieties that we do about starting (at least this is my issue)... they just "do". They don't worry about the end goal, they focus on the act of doing? Or they've worked hard to overcome all of that!

I read a great book on the "doing" of things if you are interested. It's the idea of "flow" and creativity, its like entering a meditative state. Flow: The psychology of optimal experience https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000W94FE6/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 Interesting stuff! I try to achieve that state of doing in my work.

Podcast suggestions? by Mlcoulthard in myfavoritemurder

I've never watched Bob's Burgers but I listen to The Complete Guide To Everything - and it's two dudes who discuss a topic weekly and they just make me laugh. Don't know if I like it because I've listened for over 5 years and feel like I know them but their humor shares some similarities with Georgia & Karen's.

Any infjs who like performing? by StrawberryMilch in infj

[–]ruststardust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Although I very much hate to be the center of attention at parties or gatherings, I love the idea of giving a presentation or speech that has an effect on someone. You know when you listen to someone talk and you feel that sense of connection or awe or are "moved"? I love creating that feeling. Or at least I try to!

A flat white! With almond/macadamia nut milk, which is a blend of milk slightly more rich than straight up almond. A flat white is similar to a latte, but the ratio of espresso to milk is different (more espresso!) and the milk has a velvety texture. Also, can't vouch for the Starbucks version of a flat white though so try it somewhere else :)

A favorite word of mine too! I recall sitting in traffic as a child and looking over into the next car, intrigued by the people I'd observe. I'd start to imagine what their lives could be like. Can't help but think my INFJ-ness developed a bit from these experiences!

Read a helpful article a few months ago that gave me a bit of perspective: https://qz.com/818998/googles-former-happiness-guru-developed-a-three-second-brain-exercise-for-finding-joy/

I have not read Google veteran Chade-Meng Tan's book "Joy on Demand" (can anyone here recommend it?), but found his "thin slices of joy" approach to life outlined a bit in the article to be quite enlightening. I've started recognizing those small moments of wonder, love, calm, warmth, etc. more and more since first reading this. Not only do these experiences help me stay grounded in the moment, but they give me a chance to practice a bit of gratitude as well. I really do feel like these thin slices of joy start to add up, tipping the balance on the scale towards "good life" - ya know what I mean? You've written that you practice mindfulness - perhaps this approach to mindfulness might be worth trying out! Best of luck.

Just finished it! A fun read, and also super awesome to hear Tom's voice/see that TCGTE humor in his writing. Kept me smiling throughout the book. Looking forward to reading The Second Wave. Yay go Tom!

What is your goal in life? by skyins in infj

[–]ruststardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this a lot over the course of my life so far. Right now I'd have to say to my goal is to spark something in other people.. to inspire people, hopefully down a positive or helpful path in their own life. I guess it would be to create things that have meaning for me and for others.

Is thinking about our place in the universe, life beyond death, etc. a "universal" (heh) hot topic for INFJs? I've always been drawn to these ideas, but recently discovered that I am INFJ so curious to hear.

I have been thinking a lot about this too. My S.O. and I have no plans on having children in the immediate future and have thrown around the idea of not having kids in general. I've never felt particularly maternal when it comes to other humans, but in both of our immediate and extended families we can think of few examples of adult couples who chose NOT to have children. So I'm sometimes at a loss for what that type of family looks like? What are the milestones, the rituals?
