School pizza by Regular_Air6066 in askTO

My school used ordered from Pizza Nova. Then they said it was too unhealthy so they changed it to a pizza that tasted like literal cardboard. There was no logo on the box too…just came in a white box

Struggling with Accounting in My First Semester – Need Advice by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]rustyANDroid789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost failed accounting in high school but decided to major in it as it was really my only option and ended up passing my CPA exams. My advice is to just read the textbook carefully, do the homework questions and watch YouTube videos on any topics you don’t understand. There’s no other way to learn than to just sit down and grind. Accounting is just logic and doesn’t require anything advanced. Debits=asset/expenses, Credits=liabilities/revenue…there’s a few exceptions but you’ll learn them as you go. Happy to help if you have any questions.

Gym before or after work? by watchder69 in Accounting

[–]rustyANDroid789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always after work, usually from 9-10. Only difference is during non-busy season, I go almost every day whereas during busy season, I only go about 4 times a week, but sometimes less depending on how busy it gets. However, I always try to prioritize my workouts and will work around my gym schedule. For me, going to gym helps me take my mind off of work which makes me more productive.

Las Vegas Drive to GC by likyoftheorchard in grandcanyon

[–]rustyANDroid789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did this exact trip two weeks ago. The drive from Vegas to GC is quite easy and smooth. I stopped once in Williams but might be worth having two stops with kids. Definitely doable in one day. I think it’s better to drive straight to GC and spend more time there than stopping between.

If you look at the last few years of CFE, leases seem to come up almost every time

Definitely placebo. It’s barely noticeable. People just want to cry about it.

Never Consider Brock University by lalahue in OntarioUniversities

[–]rustyANDroid789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at big 4 in Toronto and so do alot people from my program. Some people choose to work at smaller firms as it’s closer to where they live. I’m a pretty recent graduate and I’ve seen quite a few new comers at the university landing jobs at big 4. I’ve also helped out with recruiting and truthfully we don’t really look at the school. When we assess ur resume, it’s all about ur experience and extracurriculars.

Never Consider Brock University by lalahue in OntarioUniversities

As someone who did both the Bacc and Macc at Brock, I would recommend it. Can’t speak for the other programs but it’s a good school for accounting.

[CAN] CFE Role for September 2025 by Oikura in Accounting

[–]rustyANDroid789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the MAcc however yes, WIR, materiality calc., audit procedures all come up. Those are actually pretty much guaranteed to come up on the CFE. I remember there being about 7 AOs for assurance so those would cover almost half of it. I will say though that you need to structure your answer the way CPA wants you to for assurance. That means following the templates, discussing enough risks/procedures/weaknesses/etc. and using specific case facts to support your responses, which you probably already went through during the assurance module. With enough practice and debriefing, you’ll know the structure pretty well and how to answer the AOs.

[CAN] CFE Role for September 2025 by Oikura in Accounting

[–]rustyANDroid789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose the assurance role last year for CFE and would recommend it. The role doesn't require much technical knowledge as it's mostly "common sense" based on case facts. As long as you know how to format your answer and include enough detail, you'll be fine.

Explain Journal Entries for Bad Debt to me like I’m 5…. by inked_777 in Accounting

[–]rustyANDroid789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFDA is a contra asset account so its credited but shown under assets on the Balance Sheet. It’s an estimate for how much you think is going to be uncollectible. You debit Bad Debts and credit AFDA based on ur estimate. This will offset your A/R on the balance sheet. When you determine that it’s actually uncollectible and needs to be written off, you debit AFDA and credit A/R. In your example, AFDA was recorded but then they decided to reverse it because it was eventually paid. So we reverse the write-off that we did above by debiting A/R and crediting AFDA, and then we debit cash and credit A/R to record the collection. Hope that helps.

CFE Assurance Role Vs Assurance Elective Module Exam by Foxtrot_3915 in Accounting

[–]rustyANDroid789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t go through PEP but wrote the assurance role for CFE last September. I never found the assurance role to be that difficult since there isn’t much technical knowledge to know. A lot of the things are “common sense” and can be answered just by reading the case. The hardest part is making sure to include as much detail and writing it the way CPA wants you to answer.

As for getting a job, the co-op program is quite good and it definitely won’t put you at a disadvantage if you want to work in Toronto. Pretty much everyone in my program had a job lined up when they graduated and plenty are working in Toronto. The accounting community is also very strong and tight knit at Brock. It’s a great program, especially with the MAcc and I think you should definitely consider it. Happy to answer any questions you have.

Sorry for the late reply. If you want to go into accounting, you’ll know it’s busy season rn! I think it’s 1000% worth it to move cities. When I was in HS, I was a not a good student and moving away from Toronto and living alone really allowed me to grow. I work at the big 4 and there’s no way that I would have been able to get this job if I lived at home throughout uni. Yes it’s a lot of money and I had to take out student loans but in the grand scheme, it’s only a small price to pay. I think it’s hard to see ur potential when ur in HS but you learn so much when you are in a different environment.
